@skcabtewon thank you now i've got 2 cd of mandy patinkin, i discovered him this year! incredible! youtube rules! he's got an angelic voice. great great artist!!!
I was surfing through TV stations one day and heard Mandy singing "Somewhere that's Green". I was stunned at the beauty of his rendition and voice. That's the first I had ever heard of Mandy (I thought he was a girl), the song or the play. That was a case of "you got me at 'Hello'". I am in awe, still. Thank you.
I discover M.Patinkin only a few months agò here on youtube, He's great, a gifted man with his incredible, moving voice, years are gone, but internet dissolve distances, and I'm a new fan of this great artist! Lol
Never, EVER, performed any better than this. Agree with Rachoote below...wish this vid had more views: some piece of me believes the world would be a better place if it heard this just once! Thank you, Mr. Patinkin, for your generosity of spirit and selflessness and for 1:36 minutes of ahhhhhhhhhhh..........................YYYEEESSS.
I first heard this 1917 or 1918 song by 1980, the Alice Cooper version included in his LP vinyl record titled Alice Cooper goes to hell. This version of Patinkin is more mellow. Praise to Joseph McCarthy, Frédéric Chopin (his melody Fantaisie-Impromptu was the basis for the music adaptation by Harry Carroll), and praise to Newton, who divided the visible-by-the-human-eye range of the light spectrum into seven colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet; invented Newton's disk.
It's from his album "Dress Casual" which came out around 1990. Not sure when he was on Regis. Could be promoting it then. I know he had a beard and was doing "the Secret Garden" in 1991 so it's probably right around then.
I know many other great, notable singers sang this song, but Mandy Patinkin's version seems to be the best. His voice is both simple and deeply sensitive. Wish this video had more views.
the way he sings is so effortless, it's amazing.

And the BBC did not allow broadcast of the Perry Como version, stating: This is a bad perversion of a Chopin melody and should be barred,
:-D
Patinkin is top as usual.

Wonderful control, makes it look so easy and he's really young here, probably circa 1983.
