Excellent video... I especially love the appearance of the legendary Col. Robert Powell.. WOW!! 1,800 hours in a U2 and over 1,000 in an SR-71... No wonder he earned 17 Air Medals and 2 Distinguished Flying Crosses.. Sir, we should ALL salute you!!
True, but to get over a 1,000 in the SR and 1,800 in the U-2 is quite impressive. To put things in perspective, in over 50 years of flight, there are only 25 or so guys with over 2,000 hours in the U-2. Comparing military time with civilian time isn't apples to apples. Airline guys log "flight" time from push back until arriving back at the gate. Even comparing military to military between different jets isn't the same. Heavy drivers build time much faster than fighters for example.
Cool airplanes, there were 2 of them in PR for a little while several years ago. When they're at cruise altitude it's flown by the computer. If they go 5 knots faster they exceed their Mach limit, 8 knots slower and they stall. The pilot I talked to said that at max altitude if he loses power it would take him 1 1/2 hours to glide back down to land lol!
