Do some research and you'll realize that some All-brass bands (outside of the HBCU world) are considered just that, with the same instrumentation.

When SU came to TSU for the John A. Merritt classic they showed me that they had some musicianship when they played a gospel number, but EVERY and I do mean EVERY song before and after that was blasted. BALANCE is what SU lacks. The brass and percussion section overpower everyone else. That's just my opinion.
If everybody plays G, which we know yo ca do, how the hell do you know what song you're playing? Balance is the KEY. Yall still an awsome band. Those Drum majors are frekin awsome, but fa real, ere body can't play G at the same time!!!! Geeeeeez!!!!!

I really and truly do not see what you kats(probably FAMU members) are talking about. This sounds like the usual powerful SU. Hate to say it but some of you FAMU kats remind me of stuck up negroes and stuck white folk. You think everybody should sound exactly as you do but you won't admit it. You can tell because they holler and scream balance 24/7. For a brass band, SU is balanced enough. IF they were shooting to be like FAMU, it would be a travesty. Too much brass. But they're not.

I am a real band head..I crabbed over 10 years ago. Southern has been, and will always be, a sub par band that lacks musicality and sacrifices such a concept for the sake of VOLUME (not intensity, two very different things). You have an untrained ear, one that lends you to be bias. I feel sorry for you because you don't have a clue as to what a real band actually sounds like.
