I didn't know it was possible to make Musica Antiqua Koln sound slow. This tempo was startling to me at first but it grew on me. Quantz in 1752 established pieces in the allegro category as floating around 120 bpm. A mechanical instrument built in the 1760s plays pieces by Handel, Corelli, and Vivaldi with its allegro averaging about 110 bpm (some of the allegros is in the 130s!). They play this at about 105 bpm. Whether any of this data is relevant to Bach I'm not sure but just keep it in mind.

At this tempo it is more Allegro Vivace. I've never heard it played so fast. Bach on speed!
