  • Brilliant!!!!

  • Todd is the most talented man in the biz!!!

  • Are the chords to this song available anywhere on the internet? I'm having the damndest time finding them.

  • I've always thought this is just a GREAT SONG. Todd is god

  • Love this song

  • now is that Todd's wife, michele... one of the back up singers?

  • @bojangles828 yes the blonde in the middle is michele rundgren

  • @MERCURHILLMANIAC we are all of us screwed, and by the same things. that' s why absurdity is part of existentialism.

  • ...is Godd.

  • I don't get it. They this Todd is compassionate but he looks at his watch at 00:08. Damn rude. Maybe he should remember that Fall back and Spring forward helps one adjust for daylight saving time or night stealing time.

  • @11xzxzxz If you listen, he says "if I gave you just a bit more time" when he looks at his watch.

  • @jlinardi Come on man the whole thing was a put-on (by me). I was just acting a little bit dumber than I am. Take care.

  • @11xzxzxz

    Ha!

    Peace.

    Rock

  • Todd iz Godd and those of us 56 and climbing are still out there dancing to him and listening to him sing AND PLAY...TODD AND HIS LYRICS ARE MAGIC

  • Todd. One word says it all.

  • WOW!! LOVE this performance...the energy is great...great tune, makes me wanna dance...very upbeat!! todds voice is GREAT...thanxx for the video!!!

  • Cool video... I like hearing this song "natural," without all the studio wizardry.

  • Hey Snorkel...this was recorded in japan.(ca 1980) Same name as the album "nearly human". EXCELLENT video! Couldn't find the DVD so I transferred the VHS to DVD. SO worth it.....

  • Yep, born in Upper Darby.

  • I wonder where this was recorded. I remember going to NY to see this tour and Liv Tyler came out and sang backing vocals :)

  • Saw Todd and this lineup at The Ritz in NYC on this tour. I recall the show starting late but damn, it was great!! Anyone else there?

  • Featuring The World's Most Dangerous Backup Singers!!

  • This DVD is awesome!!!!! I used it often when I was doing pro A/V installations. This was my test source.

Someone always poked their head in the door.... smiling! The music drew them in...the bg singers kept them longer! haha

  • oh cool this is on my iPod.

this is a great song, he's fucking inventive

  • GREAT song, one of my favorites from Todd (and that means there's lots of amazing songs to choose from). Thanks for posting this wonderful performance of it!

  • todd rules!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This was a great band. I miss Max H, trumpet player and singer. We got the opportunity to know him, really nice guy. Can anybody direct me to more videos that show Max?

  • Funny how music brings us back...I delivered a pizza to a lady in a Utopia t-shirt in 1990 and I stood in her doorway till the pizza was cold. Utopia never was "Coool" but they were brlliant

  • Wish I was at this concert.

  • One of my favorites, thanks so much!

  • Only musician where I ever had the opportunity to shake their hand after a show and give them kudos on a job well done. Todd patted me on the shoulder and told me " Thanx man, we appreciate that ". ( Utopia's Oops Wrong Planet tour / backstage door } That Todd is one helluva humble and gracious guy.

  • Tremendous TODD! Thanx for the post-I saw this concert in 1989 at Royal Oak theater in MIch. I was in 1st row and shook his hand-the best!!

  • I seriously think A Capella is my very favorite Todd. Really, I do.

  • Todd may never get the total recognition he deserves, but that will never stop him from giving you all he has, each and every night he sings and plays.

  • Thanks for posting this. Haven't heard it in 22 years - wonderful!!

  • dug it off the acapella release. the nrg of a live band backin up his toddness makes it even better.

& seems prairie prince is tr's drummer of choice but michael urbano can sure bang away impressively too (guess he's someone for todd to fall back on)

    peace.

  • F.....n Great!

  • ...are those the Brecker Brothers on horns?

  • This is great!!! I keep going to put the Nearly Human cd on and then I say 'let me see if there is another tune from this show and...' Well whoever did this "Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Thank you for this concert!!! I'm still going to put the Nearly Human cd on; I know a song they won't have on here "Fidelity"; Mr. Rundgren "You are amazing!!!"

  • this is off the 1990 concert DVD, you can have the whole concert for a few bucks! (love that back-up singer on the left, she looks like victoria principle)

  • You've got to be kidding, Billy Joel!!??

Todd is Godd! The very best there is

  • Its that Philly "white soul" sound...Love that Rundgren Music!~

  • Todd sounds a lot like Billy Joel in this one - I bet they could do a nice harmony duet?

  • I remember seeing Todd here in town in an almost empty theater. Todd and his group still preformed like they were playing for 10,000...What a talent and a pro!

  • He never fails to amaze me...

musically and lyrically he has it all

  • Are there any more vids of songs from the "A Capella" album? I'd love to see them, especially when Todd toured with a choir.

  • All I was referring to was Todd's vocal acrobatics, and that very very few people, that are not not black can do. I am talking about the voice being able to (in one breath) slide around quickly from note to note in glissandi. A vocal technique that is found primarily in Gospel/R&B/Soul music. This is a main reason why Mariah Carrey, Christine Aguilera, Darryl Hall, and Todd Rungren stand out as vocalists.

  • thanks, ive always wondered about the secret of his voice

  • the white Philly soul of Darryl Hall and also the Prince comparisons are right on.

Plus Todd plays lead like Prince, but was doing it pre-Prince.

  • A good comparison. H&O actually played with Todd on the Back to Bars album from the 70's.

  • darryl hall prob is the only one in rock that has a voice similar to todd's--todd has the best voice ever in rock!

  • It sounds like Hall & Oates

  • I swear 2 god Prince and Todd r connected in so many many ways it's crazy man .either guy could play the other guys songs and it would be just fine...really does any one agree or can see/hear it ...

  • I thought Todd was from Darby, PA?

  • @jjgitties I guess someone answered but we are getting up-to-date news all the time and yes Todd is from Upper Darby, the town he falls back on.

  • @jjgitties

    He is from Upper Darby!

  • @bungalowmo Say - does anyone know who played bass on the 1990 tour?

  • @428jbs Larry Tagg

  • @428jbs Larry Tagg

  • Blue Eyed Soul...Todd style.

  • Yeah but I hate that term, it is racist. Todd grew up in a ghetto. He is like me, a survivor. We need to drop the labels. Peace

  • Do what!! The only thing Todd Rondgren has survived is his haircut and herpes

  • And you grew up where? I am sure you are a hard case. Herpes?

  • I'm not saying that at all! I'm just wondering whats so racist about 'Blue Eyed Soul'? It's not derogatory, it's just stating that this R&B, Soul music took on a different 'pop' tone when covered by white groups. And c'mon, you can bet Todd Rundgren has had a run in with Herpes...and survived it!!!

  • Maybe, he seems like such a nonchauvenist though! Yeah, no racism in that. If so, then everything is racist.

  • Not even a nonchauvenist could have survived the 70's.

  • racist my eye

  • Little late eh? The term came from blacks that thought whites were stealing a genre. It is most definitely racist.

  • i wouldn't call upper darby a "ghetto".

  • Love it, and Michele is rocking the background vocals too!! :)
