Absolutely NOBODY believes me when I say EN-YA is the CORRECT way to pronounce the lovely firstname Eithne. Most of say Etna or even Etnee!! But it's an Irish Lingo name and ENYA is the way to say it. That said, the CORRECT name for Donegal is not Doonan Gowell. 'Tis TEER CONNELL and means The Land of Connell ( whoever HE was when he was at home).
@squirell1952 Dun na Gall is the Munster/ Leinster pronunciation of Donegal. Tir Connail is the Ulster/Conaught pronunciation, both of which are acceptable and Etna is the correct Irish and English pronunciation of Eithne. Its definitely not a Irish lingo thing anyway.
BTW don't say Irish Gaelic, say Irish or Gaeilge. No one calls it Irish Gaelic
@squirell1952 Sorry I'm fond of Irish things, no offense, but why the hell don't you simplify your orthography a little bit? Why don't you just write ENYA instead of Eithne? LOL! But seriously man, learning Gaelic remains SO discouraging for a Spanish speaker like myself.
I just return from my vacation to Ireland. I got the opportunity to travel and see the Donegal and Gweedore area. I find this area more beautiful than the Ring of Kerry or Dingle Bay . If I could retire, I would like to move and live in this area. I highly recommend all travlers to visit this area of Ireland. Breathtaking beauty.
there is NO "y" in the classical irish-lingo alphabet.

no matter wot way you spell it, the corrrect pronounciation is en-ya.
dunno what it means, though.
would it be scottish gallic/pictish or even welsh in origin?
