I'm confised because of my ignorance I bet! That is thick for a fretboard. What about the radius (looked flat to me)? I agree with a fence that also limits travel so you get the perfect depth. What happens if you go too deep or not deep enough? And finally last.... Carpal Tunnel? Take time-released Vitamin B-6 (500mg) before going to bed at night. If you get the typical night time pain, this really helped me. I finally went for surgery & can recommend the best guy if you are near Long Island.
@KP11520 in the video is a complete neck. some guitars I do a one piece neck. I also will use this method for fingerboards only. as for the depth the blade is just about perfect in depth. when the blade is flush I stop.
I have had the surgery.. it helped but still have issues especially when I try to do a lot of repetitive things like cut 20 plus fret slots!! I will try the b-6 though!!
This is pretty cool, never thought to use my scroll saw. So what did you use to measure out and mark them? Also, seems like a sliding fence behind the fingerboard would be a good idea to keep the cuts straight into the board.
@AgnosticEra I have several templatessome I have bought and I also now make them. they are available on my backporchmojo web site. I thought about the fence, but as long as the table is square to the blade.. your good!!
it really makes a difference!! #1 you can see what your doing and #2 the blade depth is just right.. when the blade goes flush..you are the right depth !!
Awesome! Just used this method to cut frets in 3 fretboards in less time than it used to take for one. And I was able to do it sitting down!
