thing is you pushed the shift at the wrong time your supposed to hit it while the screen is blank before it kicks in the macbook probly thought it had a stuck key

Holding the shift key boots into safe mode on a Mac...
Because of other problems I'm having, I was logically trying to boot into safe mode...

why does this matter? why were you holding the shift key while booting up? you do realize there is a very simple solution right? DONT HOLD THE SHIFT KEY!
