it actually bad when they fight and one gets beat up . The looser WILL die in months, coz he/she was weaker . ;( My degu died tht way . He got weak, it didnt want to drink or eat . ( i had 2 boys) And the stronger one kinda raped him all the time . >.< Well the tiem passed on and he got ill . And one morning i found him sleeping in the sun so relaxed . I came back from school , he was in the same posistion just like in the morning . ( Sorry for bad english)

it can get alot worse the fighting one of mine got a nasty bite on the ear wen I but a handful of salad feast in the cage I would get another wheel u sometimes need to do this mine will fight if I put a handful of treats ( or salad feast : p) so I have to feed them by hand single treats 1 each or they will fight they argue abit over there normal food if it gets worse will have to get another bole

they so had make-up sex after that fight. Can you post a video of your degus having sex or self pleasuring as this is an important part of their life cycle which seems to get ignored on youtube. People seem very uninformed in caring for them and their sexual behaviour!

We have 3 and they are INCREDIBLY active.  They are constantly on the 2 wheels we have for them. Occasionally (and not out of hunger) they will go for a good 30 minutes of intermittent fighting. They are 3 males, and judging by the battle scars on 2, only one of them appears to come out best. If it is not over food, the attacks are brief and appear to inflict an incredible amount of pain (the other screams and runs/shakes!). I don't know what I am doing wrong?? The balance of power is off!

I had two of em but they had waaaaaay to many babies so I had to put them away, I kept one of em. My dad decided to make an outside pin for him so he could be outside on nice days. But he escaped and I never saw him again....I miss my degus :c

PS - myself nor the store owner do not know how to tell what sex they are, is it going to be a problem if I accidentally get like 3 boys and a female or vice versa? do you think they will still bond the same mostly?

Having one degu is animal cruelty. Get at least two and feed them only hay and special cincilla/degu food. They should live hapily for at least 6 years.

If you know what you're looking for you can find suitable hamster foods or pellets. Degus have pretty simple diets after all (degu food is basically just more hay in pellet form with supplements).

And yeah, keep more than one. They're so much cheaper than a proper cage that the cost of another animal is irrelevant. Plus they live in groups of up to 100 in the wild. It's kind of like taking a human and sticking him all alone in a cage for his entire life. The social needs aren't met.

We wouldn't give them sugar, those are colorful chews designed for degus. We take very good care of our degus.

if you use those kind of floors that have gaps the degus will develop something called bumblefoot use a flat surface and cover it with woodshaving. ;)

No, females does it too. At least mine used to do it from time to time (they could be downright mean to each other, sometimes trying to drag each other by the tail while fighting), but after a short while they would always become friends again.

Oh no! Degus have very delicate feet - they should never be kept on a mesh floor. Their feet will become blistered, septic and badly damaged. You must tile the floor of cages like these with the self adhesive lino tiles you get in places like B&Q.
