Beware of the hood on the 24-70. It may look strong, but it's only held together by 3 tiny screws which are only anchored in 1/4" of plastic, and I've heard about people picking up their gear by it only to have the screws rip out and their camera and lens falling to the ground.
Thanks for the information... Don't listen to all those people how tell you what to say, it really doesn't matter what you say, people understand. I have two questions. First have you noticed any variations with the focal length of the 70-200? and Second what caused you to by the D700 rather than the D3 or D3s?
@dk2893 the meta data says 200mm. I've heard some say it's more like 190mm but I'm not sure how to tell. I guess I could compare it to my 70-210 f4 lens. I bought the D700 to keep the cost and weight down. Unlike pro glass the bodies are replaced more often so cost is more of a factor and the D700 works great for covering events which is most of what I do.
Nice vid. I have been looking for the long strap for a long time. Where can I find one?

@lam2jas The strap in the video is made from a 5' dog leash and cost about $4 at the local drug store.

@areacable Nice one. Maybe I will give it try and get a spider holster first.

@SLRist you're correct I should always grab the barrel of the lens. good point!

Holding a 70-200 by the hood? You're braver than me!

@SLRist actually many times I put it in hood first but the hood is strong enough to work but not as strong as the hood on the 24-70 Nikkor!
