  • @roversd1 they're diesel-electric, I don't think they have gears (correct me if I'm wrong lol)

  • @roversd1

The driver will have returned the power handle back to the notch as those beasts really do go like a rocket!

  • @roversd1 They don't have gears! The diesel engine drives a generator, which powers electric motors to turn the wheels.

  • You can not beat the sound of that engine!

  • nice angle

  • Great to see her return to the mainline, very nice!

  • This video may have been sold for scrap but has been refurbed and is owned by DRS looking brand spanking new

  • english electric beast

  • A tad more thrilling that a Class 150!

  • How I loved my Dad dragging me to Weymouth when I was little! Tractor Miles!

  • Awesome

  • pure wickedness!

  • Thanks!

  • You'll be delighted to know that this loco (37409) is still in service & is in good nick.

DRS (Direct Rail Services) have it & over the next month on a trial, but hopefully becoming permanent basis, this loco, along with 37423, are running a public rail service between Carlisle & Barrow-in-Furness once a day in each direction, (my local line) to relieve overcrowding on Northern Rail services for Sellafield workers.

If you can get up to Cumbria give this 4 car, 37 hauled train a try & enjoy.

  • Great, like Czech class 751.

  • im barely old enough to remember these (20) but i miss them, hate the new ones with just a cab seat, i love the first (sometimes last) engine on the train being a huge engine, what are these yellow fronted engines called? lol

  • exactly how it should be

  • Now thats a 37! 5*

  • I hope DRS bring it back sounding like this.

  • It will sound the same, unless they don't put a EE12CVST in :P

    Nice video.

  • Awesome THRASH!

  • beauty! thats what i call thrash!!!!! 5/5!

  • Is someone going to save this loco? Don't soung tired to me, got another 20yrs service left out that engine!! Sounds in top condition!

  • The video was recorded 9 years ago..

  • DRS have bought it.

  • Great departure shot from Newport, and brought back memories of this service when loco hauled...5*

  • "This loco has recently been sold for scrap by EWS - a memory of better times!"

    Not necessarily........ ;-)

    Keep your fingers crossed!

  • Cool sound!

  • Good thrash there. Thanks for sharing.

  • What a BEAST!!
