I know that it's a Geneva convention that all you are REQUIRED to give is Name/Rank/Serial ... but that doesn't mean that you can't give more information if, like it will get on TV or something so that people can see you are there still and relatively ok.
@JenjenMrsHlove It is interesting. People see you to see that you are ok (this is true) but you really betray the uniform? Do you feel that the info betrays the uniform and the vow taken to it?
As far as cencorship goes, it most definitely should be brought to a living rooms. After all It's the truth that being cleaned up. Show it all, leave nothing out
I agree with Wayne here! Its all about money and oil, we needed an excuse to get into a war with Iraq. As far as seeing images on the war. I think we need to see them. Its the old out of site out of mind thing. Most americans don't want to see it, because than you would have to deal with what we are doing as a country! The media has been told to not show returning caskets. This is very concerning. :(
Yes indeed Bree. We need to see. I remember full well what you said about how they wouldn't show arrival of coffins on U.S. soil because it was "disrespectful." What was disrespectful was not acknowledging that sacrifce that took their lives.
Exactly!! Im tired of how they are hiding some of the most importent things for us! We are the type where we have to see it to believe it. And our news media has been ordered by our President not to show us these thing. I must say, it angers me to no end, not to mention disrespectful for the famlies who have lost love ones for thieir service to this country! Makes me sick actually. :(
I'm old school regarding this. Name rank and serial number and keep your mouth shut. Technically, they weren't prisoners of war so they weren't bound by normal conventions, still... The Iraq war ended with the fall of Saddam. Today it is an occupation of coalition forces resisted by underground militia. I doubt the U.S military will leave for years. Iraq is a convenient aircraft carrier on sand to launch an offensive against Syria and Iran when needed.
This is the most stupid war in the human history and even the soldiers know it and when they're given a chance to speak, they just tell the truth. We're all humans after all.
This war in particular has been stage (mis)managed and marketed so that we won't get too upset and start asking a bunch of questions- like now. All wars are ugly to see whether they are justified or not. What irritates me is that we have been asked no sacrifice. "Go shopping!" WTH is that? Maybe because they knew it really wasn't worth it?
I too support the troops (and my nephew who's there), but it's all about pride, ego, and hubris at this point. And never admitting a tremendous mistake. Why is Osama still breathing?
Maybe it's that no one is going to take what captives will say under duress seriously anyway and it's just as well so friends and family can see they're at least sort of OK. I wonder if they've been trained that it's OK? (Dunno).
But is it morally right to do this? Apparently they were held in solitary and the lone female was told the others were released when in fact they were not. It is natural to want family comforted but a soldier is a soldier.

I agree totally with this, Wayne. Ugly truth is realism, regardless of consequences.

Exactly! Again, I support our troops but feel we need to bring them all home.

So true, my friend, so true. Everything you said is true. I fully support the troops but it's been four years now.

errrm, just a wee point - the UK is NOT at war with Iran....therefore the captured soldiers were not Prisoners of War!

Good point. I didn't word it properly. They were being treated as thus but were not legally thus.
