  • Fantastic Riffs in My Ears !!!!!!!!! *-*

Modest Mouse !!! Moon & Antarctica !! is great !!!

How soon is now ? for the smiths again? i love old 80s musix The smiths !

  • This is why he is my favorite guitar player

  • so incredible. NOT

  • brilliant

  • Can you imagine Moz's voice on that ?!!!!

  • Would you please upload the whole thing? I mean, the entire song, not just part of it.

    Thanks.

  • The best.

  • GIVE ME MORE TELECASTER.

This guy sure loves his Tele's!

  • Reunite with Morrisey now guys. Lifes too short.

  • MOAR!!!!!

this is really great, is there a full song version some where?

  • @ShadowGrove483 Yes, somewhere.

  • @darcythornton wow thanx!

  • @ShadowGrove483 Dude, "MOAR"? Really?

  • @andrewptob isn't that how it's spelled??

  • The Stone Roses - One Love

  • Where the hell is the full gig?

  • the drummer is missing the best part of the drums n is off beat

  • that's "how soon is now"? sounds like something from Steve Ray Vaughn

  • cool

  • I just messed up my shorts at both ends.

  • You guys do realize that Noel and Johnny are good mates, right? Johnny gave 2 guitars to Noel back when Noel couldnt afford his own. Noel is a genius, he bloody well wrote most of Oasis' songs; and the smiths are freakin amazing as well. So get over yourselves, yes there can be more than a handful of good bands.

  • big dick solo woooooo

  • sometimes very good musicians give their best performances playing a benefit. emotions run high, playing for a lofty purpose. this solo is letting it ALL hang out, but not over the top....mighty impressive.

  • And this is from a guy that says he hates solos too. I think we guitarists all secretly love solos

  • ₪₪₪₪₪₪₪●▬▬▬▬▬▬▬►Shan23 Studios◄▬▬▬▬▬▬▬●₪₪₪₪₪₪₪

I love ♥ this Song ♥ Thank You (good Gtr improv). How soon is Now.

  • Marr rules!!!

  • Nothing wrong with The Edge, he makes great sounds, that's all that matters not the level of difficulty it takes.

  • all such fucking guitar nerds... shredding counts for shit. The only thing that counts is sound, and melody, without the singer, they're nothing, a band is a band, not individuals

  • Please...where is the footage from? I must find this concert!!

  • There needs to be the full video of this.

  • @jamie1994100 with you on that one, ive searched but cant find it.

  • Shut the fuck up and listen to the man fucking play

  • what's the point in all this arguing over who the best guitar player is when everyone knows that hendrix was the best?

  • 1--noel gallagher is a limey cunt

2--the edge is a great player--see him live, dumbasses

3--john5 is the most interesting, innovative guitarist i know of

    4--marr is very good

    5--gallagher is a limey cunt

  • Blinkyboy99 I am a massive lover of music, and I have to say you're completely wrong about Johnny Marr - I also went to the trouble of checking out your videos after you said you said you could play to Marr standard ("Marr is overrated I can play that shit"), and to no surprise, I'd say you was below average/beginner level. People like you need to think before you speak, you complete fucking idiot. - PS.. Noel Gallagher says Marr is one of the best guitar players seen to the world so, fuck you.

  • @Blinkyboy99 Well maybe you've got a big cock and they worship you for it who knows. but at least tune your guitar when you're recording a video cause under the bridge sounds like murder

  • @Blinkyboy99 Congratulations on pissing off a lot of Marr fans with your trolling, which is apparently one of your life joys. (PS I'm not saying that in a mean way but you're a really really really shit guitarist, honest to god)

  • Johnny's fucking amazing!

  • that's better, I didn't know he could play like that. thumbs up.

  • Wow Johnny Marr wandering around the 20th fret mark. I'm certain that is the first time I have seen that. For all the haters get a feekin' grip already. Johnny Marr is a guitar genius, there is no arguing it. The work of The Smiths has influenced pretty much every modern band out there. He is a study in why you don't need to do hero solos all the time to prove your worth as a guitar player.

  • pffff...i could do that...expect better Jonny :)

  • i heard there was a secret cord - that johnny played and it pleased the lord....

  • Brad Delson >>>> Johnny Marr

  • I just had a 47 sec orgasm...

    Felt like a bloody pig

  • annoyingly fast edits that actually prevent you from actually watching him play...

  • fucking hyperactive camera work.

  • the edge?? is BETTER than johnny marr???? look up some bill bailey stuff on the edge and how its all effects. the edge is better than jonny marr is quite easily the most ridiculous thing anyone has ever said. seriously. get the edge to invent something similar to big mouth strikes again and then be able to play it. he couldnt, what he could do is put together 3 chords and put a load of effects on it.

  • i love U2 but the Edge is sooooooooooooo overated

  • @kolokidi edge overated ??, if someone is overated is johnny marr, I hope you will not respond this message saying that the edge is a better guitarrist than marr !!! ....... great guitarrist means: creativity, talent, unique, etc, etc........

  • @aderueda The edge sounds better than he actually is, he plays a lot of doted 8th notes so it's the delay that often gives it the feel. I have been into the Edge's style since 1980 and love his stuff but there are far more guitarists playing the edge's style than Johnny Marr, mainly because Marr's guitar parts are by far more complex and layered. Two completely different guitarists who are equally good in my opinion and totally incomparable but on difficulty level Marr wins

  • @TalkToTheBody edge sux compred to johnny

  • @kolokidi Wait so are you saying Johnny Marr is overrated? Do you think he doesn't have any creativity or talent? He is one of the most unique and innovative guitarists of the age and any number of musicians refer to him as a legend and great influence.

  • @WonkyAsian i second

  • @Blinkyboy99 Did i read that correctly? Don't be so daft. Johnny Marr is a genius. I'm sure all the guitarists you've just mentioned will testify in some way, shape or form about how great Johnny actually is. Do you know the process that actually went into creating the riff for "How Soon Is Now?", looping four guitar layers from an eight track through four Fender twin reverbs... That kind of stuff in the 80's was unheard of. Credit where it's due.

  • Johnny Marr. The only man on earth that even Morrissey fans agree is cooler than Morrissey

  • @Blinkyboy99 Dude, what are you on? Noel Gallagher is shite. He said himself he couldn't even play the stuff Johnny plays. And since when did it matter how difficult a riff was to play? If that was the case, Purple Haze is a shit riff, cause I can play it easily. And Jack White would be considered shit cause his riffs are super easy.

The most idiotic thing I've heard; but I guess if you don't know how to play guitar you wouldn't know any better. It's about creativity, which Noel doesn't have.

  • @Blinkyboy99 Overrated? You shoudn't drink your breakfast.

  • @Blinkyboy99 What documentaries? Noel Gallagher...ahahahahaha...now I know you must just be a comedian...stop practicing your material on youtube and get yourself on stage you joker. The Edge - the most overrated - plays one note and then fiddles with his pedals and effects for an hour. You actually don't know fuck all about playing guitar. John Frusciante is awesome but if you knew anything, you would know that before he was famous he used to play along to Smiths records when he was younger.

  • @MelPullThePin Rofl

Dude cant even play Come As You Are by Nirvana

    Lawl

  • @MelPullThePin John Frusciante was heavily influenced by John McGeoch long before Johnny Marr

  • @TalkToTheBody I'm aware of that...but i never said he wasn't. Although, you could say the same about Hendrix.

I was simply defending Johnny Marr and his influence. If someone was badmouthing John McGeoch then I too would make a case for him as he was in some of my favourite bands; well 2 of my favourite bands...and he's influenced everyone from Johnny greenwood, The Edge and even Marr himself. Just as influential, if not more.

  • @MelPullThePin wow I do believe I have met a fellow fan of MY favourite band...Magazine! I first saw Magazine and McGeoch back in early 79 in my home town of Manchester (support band was Simple Minds!) and I have seen them a few times since the reformed with Noko, saw them in Glasgow on 5th Nov, superb gig. Never got chance to chat to them this time but I did two years ago when I saw them in Edinburgh. Nice to see a fellow fan! Oh and I agree with what you said by the way

  • @TalkToTheBody tbh...I haven't heard enough of the Cocteau Twins to have an opinion. One day, i'll get round to listening to em properly...just so many bands/musicians to catch up on and fully indulge into. Being born into a household which regards shit like celine dion as 'good music' had really given me a slow start to the world of great guitar music...but I'm getting there...slowly...

Any suggestions regarding Cocteau Twins...Best album...where is a good place to start?

  • @MelPullThePin Hey don't knock Celine Dion ha, (she can sing I'll give her that) but taste-wise without a reference you cannot judge other musicians ;) Now you know what you don't like you can now discover what you do like. The early Cocteau Twins was very Banshees-like, check out their song "Wax and Wane", "Heaven or Las Vegas", "Bluebeard (Live) as well as the studio version. The live version of Bluebeard Elizabeth Fraser uses her voice like a guitarist uses effects

  • @MelPullThePin ... also (as the Cocteau twins split years ago) check out robin guthrie monument (live on KEXP), he was their guitarist but his solo work lives on. Very nice guitarist. Incidentally it was Elizabeth Fraser who did vocals for the movie Lovely Bones...check her out "This Mortal Coil - Song To The Siren".....but check out Magazine's new album also as well as their first 3 albums

  • @MelPullThePin ...and the cocteau twins?

  • @MelPullThePin Interesting sub-plot... Marr plays on Frusciante's latest solo album on a few tracks. Both superb players who have changed a landscape with their playing & presence live. I mean Marr has his influences too... neither player can help when they were born.

  • @Flea8 Do you listen to Fruscinate's solo work then? His last album was pretty immense...I still have it on repeat; even after 2 years. tbh, I couldn't even tell where Johnny had played on those tracks until I listened to Frusciante's interview about it.

I would love an album by them two...the melodies and emotions coming out of those guitars would be the greatest thing.

  • @MelPullThePin Yea, Frusciante is a genius. Very weird at times, but also very melodic & beautiful. Yea i agree - Marr is very subtle on The Empyrean, but i LOVE the fact Frusciante called him up & got him involved. I'd love a co-written album... it would be a breath of fresh air....

  • @Flea8 Yeah that would be a pretty awesome combination, although I don't think frusciante likes doing that with high profile people. It would be a combination of possibly the greatest guitarists, in terms of songwriting anyway, in the last 30 years.

  • @MelPullThePin Every rock guitarist nowadays is influenced either directly or indirectly by Johnny Marr, the man is a genius.

  • @Blinkyboy99 You couldn't even play any of the songs he's written, let alone have the creativity to come up with them in the first place. This man here is in a world of his own...no one has and no one will ever be able to imitate his unique style of playing...although it hasn't stopped shit like Noel Gallagher from trying.

Just out of curiosity, which guitarist do you like then? specifically ones from the past 20-30 years i'm interested in...coz I can guarantee one of em is influenced by Johnny.

  • @MelPullThePin I'm glad you know your stuff! put that idiot right in his place.

  • @MelPullThePin One - if not all of the bands that I listen to are in some way shape or form influenced by Morrissey, Johnny Marr - The Smiths. Johnny Marr is a fantastic guitarist.

  • @MelPullThePin john frusciante is the greatest of all time.

  • @m1nus37 maybe...I would find it difficult to say which I prefer...but Frusciante and Marr are definitely my favourites and the reasons why i started playing myself...and maybe Jonny greenwood.

...idk, it must be because they all share the same name...or at least an abbreviation of it anyway. :)

  • @MelPullThePin You just cited my three favorite guitarists of all time: Johnny Marr, Frusciante and Jonny Greenwood. They are the greatest, my inspiration and the reason I play guitar!

  • @danmang92 Don't talk shit 'ABOUT' Noel Gallagher.

    ...and Why not?

  • @gibsondanny at what exactly?

  • @gibsondanny why must people go overboard and call someone 'amazing' who is clearly average (at best) at most things. He's not in the same league as Marr; he's not even in the same league as Nick Valensi, Alex Turner, Carl Barat or any of the other guitarists that have been mentioned in these comments. If there is no originality, then there has to be some a diverse range of riffs. He has neither. Repetitiveness and boringness are the worst traits for a guitarist.

  • @MelPullThePin I can't count the number of times I've heard Noel state that he is not a great guitar player and certainly not on (his friend) Johnny Marr's level, so I'm not sure where you're getting Noel "trying" to imitate Johnny. Just saying.

  • @maggsayy @ADoc1980 If I may...Nowhere did I state that Noel claims to be better than JM...I simply told an obviously confused boy that without the likes of JM there wouldn't be half the shitty bands and guitarists who he likes, around today. I admit, there was no need to slag off others...I got carried away. But some dude was trying to say JM is average and Noel is miles better and more innovative. I mean...Really???

  • @Blinkyboy99 yeah but you'd be playing for your mum not millions of fans

  • great tone always

  • Johnny is brilliant, but the camera work S.U.C.K.S. EDITOR, KEEP YOUR DAY JOB!

  • morrissey woulda never let this happen

  • HELL YEAH!!!!

  • Well, he sounds 100 times better when he doesn't play heavy metal...

  • Comment removed

  • This is one song you have to start at the beginning!

  • Johnny Marr and Charlie Burchill(from Simple Minds) are the most underrated guitarist ever!!

  • ANyone know what specific color the telecaster is? I can't figure it out.

  • @GFX911 Blonde

  • HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!! That was pure, unadulterated BRILLIANCE!!!

  • OMG! Hearing Johnny play like that! It's different but it's unmistakably him. MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE!

and great to see Andy Rourke back with JM, doing what he does so underratedly brilliantly.

    Thanks for posting.

  • Not my cup of tea.. original about 100 times better

  • This isn't enough. I want more.

  • The most underrated guitarist of all-time. This shows your right here how the guy can shred when he wants to. But true guitar talent isn't all about that, whatever those up-and-down the fretboard, hammering-on metal types think. It's about tone, melody, subtlety. Marr is the king.

  • At about 0:21 , is he doing some kind of harmonic there?

  • @manurok1 Yep. In a way he creates a 12th fret harmonic (which is really just gently touching the string at half length). The place that his right index finger is touching is exactly halfway between the bridge and the fret where his left hand is working. He uses his pick to strike the string right behind where his index finger is touching. The man's a focking wizard ;)

  • @splaticon5 Thanks, and he is! I don't even want to attempt to learn how to do it, I'm not worthy

  • @manurok1 It's actually quite easy, and a very common guitar trick. Try it!

  • @splaticon5 Oh right, I will definitely, few weeks locked up in the bedroom and I'll have it nailed :)

  • dam never new he could play like that

  • wow i knew johnny Marr was gd on guitar but i never knew he was this good

  • I would give almost anything just to have the DVD of this concert.

  • sounds like john squire. there's nothing this guy can't do on guitar. legend.

  • @FretLegendSmithy more like John Squire sounds like him :)

  • @jammyuren good point

  • I am going crazy looking for a copy of this. I don't want a cheesey cell phone video or a bad cd. I would prefer an official release. They definitely had to do more Smiths songs. Too bad Morrissey is a dick and can't get together for one tour. He has nothing to be mad about. He tried to screw Mike Joyce out of money and he had to pay. Christ, it's been years ago. Let it go Steven and give the fans what they have wanted for years. Do you have any idea how successful it would be ?

  • @sirka067 If they don't like each other and don't want a reunion, then they shouldn't do it. I'd rather never see The Smiths than see them playing shit because they don't want to do it. I'd love to see them ofcourse, but it has to be done right, or it could kill Mozza's career and The Smiths reputation. They went out in style, I think I'd like to keep it that way.

  • Aha wow. I'm the featured video :O

  • Que maestro , la destruyeeee.

Ese feeling q le mete el man es alucinante.

  • Que maestro , la destruyeeee.

  • Holy shit is that an a amazing clip. Johnny looked really young there but I guess it was recent. I need to see that in full. As much as I love the original version (it's my all time favorite song) this one kicks ass.

  • ugh. why did he butcher the song like that?

  • 47 seconds of awesomeness... where the hell is the rest of it? how soon... ?

  • if anyone knows how to play guitar it's johnny marr. he can handle the beautiful and powerful riffs of the smiths and can tear the roof of the place with a bit of good old fashioned shredding! This sounded like John Squire at first. Who is a fucking great guitar player.

    Utter legend.

  • This is what i was talking about!!!!... post the full vid please

  • One of my fav. bands "The Smiths" if only they would do a tour all together would be a dream come true, but money changes everything.

  • Comment removed

  • @sirka067 You do have a point, there music will always have life! cheers!

  • woahhh always knew marr was the most unique player around but never knew he had those chops, niceeeee

  • Sounds so much like Squire in this clip! Or maybe Squire sounds so much like him...

  • Sounds like the Squire's guitar tone on One Love (Stone Roses)

  • Made the hair on the back of my neck stand up....awesome - I wish there were more

  • Is there a full video of this song?

  • @Zerusuke Yes, there must be. But for whatever reason, it hasn't been released.

  • @darcythornton A damn shame... Such an interesting thing

  • Wow..50% of The Smiths and you know Mike Joyce woulda been there if asked. If only....

  • @cranie4 actually joyce found out about rourke and marr playing and asked marr, to which marr did not respond (based on grudges from their court case years back)

  • @marokokisetter I just watched "Inside The Smiths". Really cool look at Rourke and Joyce. Both seem like the kind of guys you could hang out with at the pub and have a great time. Shame it came down to courts. Marr may not hold a grudge in time but you know Moz will.

  • Wow, really?

  • rourke legend of bass

  • the man is a fuckin guitar hero (read it in british accent)

  • @GustavoDiazPavez more specifically in Noel Gallagher's accent :D

  • @GustavoDiazPavez what british accent?

  • wow, what a rarity to see johnny solo like that!

  • johnny marr playing a solo? the rest of the band must have been really really good...

  • Holy shit, where's the rest

  • wow, amazing!

  • Errrr... this isnt "How Soon is Now" - its some mindless guitar wank.

  • Comment removed

  • @ukKidA close minded maybe?

  • Bloody hell johnny is doing stuff here on the guitar, which i didnt think was possible.

  • @noelwannabe

Isn't that Johnny's job? I've never heard him play anything but the usual "hang up your guitar and cry" riffs.

  • Has a full video of the concert been released?

  • No.

  • Manchester vs Cancer with Andy Rourke on bass - 28 January 2006

  • what's this from?
