    Doctor : *stares* "Oh no..."

    HAHAHAHA

  • Oh God..... the Doctor singing "I don't want to set the world on fire". Genius!

  • 00:00-00:04

Didn't know the Doctor liked Fallout 3.

  • Jo's quite cute here... she looked totally different in SJA, not aged well it has to be said.

  • huggeeee mouth

  • i love the way she extinguishes it lol

  • HEHE Don't worry, Jo, you'll grow on him fast enough XD

  • Pertwee & Tom Baker are still my all time favourites

  • Silly girl! I'll never get used to this clip, Jo would probably convince everyone she is the tea lady! =)

  • After watching her in The Sarah Jane Adventures I had to see what she looked liked back then. Boy, she did NOT age well. Liz Sladen looks so much better.

  • @LadyHeathersLair ..so unfair.. she was SO SEXY back then.. then sacked for being naughty with a DALEK!.

  • @lozman67 Being naughty with a Dalek? What? (Didn't watch it in that era).

  • @LadyHeathersLair She posed .. naked.. draped around a Dalek for a soft porn mag.!.it was a huge scandal at the time!!.. She emigrated to Australia after it..

  • @lozman67 She's back living in the UK now.

  • @dramaticguy and back in Dr Who.!.we can forgive anything given time.!.she was so funny in 'The Death of the Doctor'..!.. fun times..

  • i dont want to set the world on fire *BOOM!*

  • ... but what a Trout Pout she's got now : how did that happen ?

  • @RichardHell1959 Awful, awful plastic surgery, on the advice of Liza Minelli. Thanks Liza, you mental cow.

  • i thought jo grant was brilliant in the sarah jane adventures with the eleventh doctor and all that,

  • i love the third doctor he was a perfect combination of the first and second doctor. i felt sorry for jo the moment she walked through that door i knew this doctor was going to give her a bollocking.

  • Katy Will Be Appearing This Week In The Sarah Jane Adventures

  • Katy Will Be In The Sarah Jane Adventures This Week

  • I had the biggest crush on her.

  • I love the part where the dr said.' I don't want to sent the world on fire" and then he does set the TARDis on smoke. Laughing with tears in my eyes.

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATY x

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATY MANNING !!!!

    She's 61 today , can you believe it ? ! .

  • @doctorwhoone yes

  • Jo was always my favourite, couldn't believe it when she married Prof Clifford Jones. Even as a child I could see he wasn't right for her. I used to love to catch a glimpse of Jo's red knickers, that's probably why I still like to see girls in red nowadays. Ah Miss Grant you marked me indelibly

  • Cant wait to see Jo back soon in the Doctor Who Universe with the upcoming Series of the Sarah Jane Adventures [ alongside the 11th Doctor ] in a Storie called " Death of the Doctor " .

Wish this where on DVD right now , not just because it's Jo's first appearance , but also for the Master , as well as the original Actor who played him , the late Roger Delgardo .

    R.I.P. ROGER DELGARDO

  • Jo Grant, Sarah ane Smith and the Eleventh Doctor all in 1 episode what more could u want. Mayb K9, Rory, Amy, Luke et al in it as well on an alien planet, THIS YEAR. hooray

  • 'I don't want to set the world on fire...'BOOM! I LOLed thru the rest of the clip!

  • Pertwee- slightly camp, very eccentric, very good, his portrayal of the Doctor is second only to David Tennant.

  • OMG, She's comming back!! :D I just read the news about Katy reprising her role as Jo in the new season of Sarah Jane adventures. ^^ I haven't even seen any of her episodes, but I'm still really excited about seeing an old companion coming back!! ;D

  • @Estetus I've only seen her in the Three Doctors. I recommend it, it isn't really centred on her but she is pretty good in it an besides it was a great story anyway (the 10th anniv actually)

  • "You ham fisted bun vendor!" That has to be one of my favorite lines of Pertwee's era. That and "I'm some kind of a galactic yo-yo!"

  • 3 months work should have yeilded better results Dr.

  • 'I don't want to set the world on fire...' BOOM

    XD

  • He doesn't wan't to set fire to the world, just his TARDIS.

  • he's trying to make out he doesn't fancy her lol

  • Oh a commercial. I think I'll move on.

  • Ham-fisted bun vender.

    WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I might have to rewatch the Pertwee years. He's so charming and funny here. I haven't seen Pertwee since I was about 13!

  • "I don't want to set the world on fire" 'BOOM'

    lolwut

  • Lol. She was so cute!

  • I think this, the Daemons and The Green Death would cover the Jo Grant years for me but I want the whole season that Liz Shaw was in.

  • what is the music 0:03 ???

  • the ink spots : I don't want to set the world on fire.

  • thanks :)

  • More Totty!

  • when will you bring it out on dvd?

  • I kjow the Dvd commentary was made yearsago!

Jon Pertwee liked having a small, dizzy assistant,as compared to the tall, clever Liz Shaw(Caroline John)

  • i know it was made in 2001

  • yeah you honestly cant see the 3rd doctor getting on with a know it all companion like romana or lady christina can you?

  • Prove it :p

  • Seriously? Of course, Pertwee had that older gentlemen sexiness that Sean Connery & Patrick Stewart have.

  • Not just him, I think Baker married an assistant. one of the Romana's lol

  • Number 2.

  • Lalla Ward, yes. Than Douglas Adams (who was writing those episodes) brought his friend Richard Dawkings on the set, and hse ended up remarried to him. Small world!

  • More power to Pertwee if that happens to be true. He would have had better taste than even I imagined.

  • It's well documented. Pertwee's wife Ingeborg went to the producer, Barry Letts, and said that she would take her husband off the series unless Manning was taken off. That's why she "left".

  • Well that dispels the urban legend that Kismet Delgado (Roger's widow) knew of this going on and threatened to tell Ingeborg if Katy didn't leave.

  • I don't think anything happened between them and Pertwee certainly wouldn't have wanted the scandal. Tom Baker seemingly had quite a few groupies.

  • Well, she's the one who got photographed naked with a dalek.

  • I seriously doubt the accuracy of the comment that Pertwee was involved with Katy Manning.

In the 80's and 90's Pertwee's actions clearly indicated that his favorite companion was Lis Sladen. He chose to do an extended American bus tour of DW conventions with her, plus they did several audios together. Jon wanted to do another audio with Lis but passed away before it happened. Lis Sladen has said several times that she "cried for weeks" upon learning of Jon's death in 1996.

  • Ahh Jo. Fluffy as a field full of sheep

  • All the early companions were a lot of fun. The show was a lot more fun then, today.

  • @Bobsyermomsuncle I think its still alot of fun which is partly why its done so well. there are alot of shows out there now which are just a bit too serious and cynical

  • @227060 Well, Eleven is fun. And this season we have drama as opposed to angst. The Vincent and the Doctor episode was a perfect blend of lyricism and comedy.

  • @Bobsyermomsuncle I didn't like that 1 at first but on second viewing I think i got it. I think we have gotten less angst in series 5 but prev seasons have had a good balance of drama, angst, fun etc. I suppose we fellow Who fans will simply have to agree 2 disagree. Looking forward to Jo Grants stories in SJA series 4, I partly hope its the finale. The Wedding of Sarah jane Smith story would've been a bttr finale than the Gift with thr Blathereen in my opinion

  • @227060 Wedding of Sarah Jane was great. Vincent Episode was the best since Girl in The Fireplace. I didn't like how RTD and group changed the companions role, and the Doctor's logic in Human Nature, it was one of the better episodes because it was ---- like the book. Season Five opener, especially the relationship with Amelia was good.

  • @Bobsyermomsuncle I did really like how they brought the companion more to the forefront and made them carry the series along witht he Doctor, it is 1 of the features that makes the specials so prevalent since he hasn't really got a companion in those. HUman nature was an incredible story, it was that story that made me realise I'll b a Dr Who fan forever. I preferred Amy's Choice 2 Vincent. My fav S5 eps were 1, 7, 11, 12, 13

  • @Bobsyermomsuncle A lot more fun indeed. The 9th and 10th years had so much super sillious soap opera rubbish. The 11th has eased up on that I think.

  • @WC3POchannel10A Luckily Moffat recalled and loved that about the classic show, and appears to try at entertainment rather than "Great Drama!" I think he's suceeded.

  • @Bobsyermomsuncle Yes it is a load of shit now.

  • @heelfan1234 Eleven is a lot of fun. But a lot of the charm had to do with the times, and a lot of things that we were willing to overlook then that we wouldn't now.

  • @Bobsyermomsuncle What Steven Moffat and Matt Smith are doing with Doctor Who now is phenomenal. Russell T Davies could not have hoped to achieve what they've done

  • @OpticalFunkllusions hahaha, this is completely wrong. moffat and matt smith have turned the doctor into a genocidal mad man.

  • @philyburkhill1 uh, okay guy But that's your opinion and what-not. As long as these genocides were strictly in the realm of fiction...

  • @OpticalFunkllusions the tenth doctor would never have commited genocide. moffats run as head writer has been nothing short of confusing, and plot hole filed unless you accept timey wimey as an explanation.

  • @philyburkhill1 Dude lighten up. Its a harmless tv show The greatest ever, but a tv show nonetheless. Im sure you loved DT, but he's gone now. Matt Smith has basically BECOME the Doctor. Just like Tom Baker, Matts personality brings so much to the role that DT -as great as he was- just could not. Plus Steven Moffat is just a better writer. And at least he's not winding down. I thought the series 4 finale was just...no. IMHO

  • @OpticalFunkllusions I agree with you there, i've always likened the Tennant to Smith transformation as being very similar to Baker to Davison. An immensely popular Doctor is replaced by one who's just as good and brilliant as the last one. The great thing about Matt Smith is, he instantly got the part. He had a minute to hold the audiences attention at the end of End Of Time, and he got it perfectly right. As for Moffat's writing, very dark and mysterious, looove it :D

  • @Trayusstudent1 Right and right :) But let's not forget the many people who still say they 'hate' Matt Smith because Tennant left. Shame shame :(

  • @OpticalFunkllusions well I usually generalise them as being Tennant fan girls who aren't fans of the show, just fans of the actor... we don't need them! A lot of new who fans unfortunately don't get the programme is all about change. I still remember when I first saw Peter Davison regenerate, I was heartbroken but I moved on, 1. cos its a show, 2. the Doctor will NEVER end and 3. That dam bastard had Nicola Bryant's clevage in his face for his last scene!

  • @Trayusstudent1 hear, hear!

  • Jo was indeed a bit ditzy but the rapport between her and the 3rd Doctor was top-notch. Still one of my favourite assistants with my favourite Doctor.

  • Katy Manning, so lovely!

  • Liz Shaw was a better companion and all hail the Brigadier!!!

  • Depends if you like the intellectual type, i think they both looked hot in miniskirts!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My dad once said that! XD

  • Katy Manning, quite beautiful!!!

  • jo was such a cutie:)

  • Cute, but about as useful as a sailboat in the desert.

  • This one must be due out on dvd soon surely?

  • I have lots of photos of katy. Some signed some not. There are around 13 different photographs, and i have lots of copies of most. Some also come with their certificate of authority as they are one out of a limited amount of 300.

I was wondering if you would be interested in buying them

If you are interested, or have any questions I will happily answer them.

I have not added sizes of photograph, but will if you wish to have further information

  • I dont beleive it!!! This is the first episode of Dr Who I saw when I was 10! Take about taking me back!THANK YOU SO MUCH!

  • I hope this story is out on DVD soon, the commentary was done a few years ago,I love Jo Grant!

  • geez Doctor, would you really mind if a girl that cute came marching in announcing herself as your new assistant? I'd deal with it! "Ham fisted bun vendor"..... the mind boggles.

  • Simply wonderful!

  • haha. I love how the ONLY people allowed in are the brigadier and the Tea lady :)

  • Ham fisted what? How does HE know what she's been doing?

  • Jon Pertwee cool. He was my fav Doctor before David tenant got the part.

I was very, very, sad to hear he died. Even sader to hear Anthony Ainley, who I had a mad crush on as a girl, passed on.

  • Oh no, when did Jon die? He was my first and, in my opinion, the best Doctor.Sad to hear that. Was Anthony Ainlet the Brigadier?..sadder still.

  • Ainley was the Third(my oppinion) best Master.

A site dedicated to Pertwee said 2005. A BBC film clip puts his death in the mid 90's, I think. Like sarah says THE REAL DOCTOR.

  • It was 1996 according to a couple of news clips on this site. I was away in Germany at the time so no wonder I didnt hear of it. Theres a good clip of a convention interview with Jon Katie and Nichlas 1n 1993.

  • Germany. Is it nice. I've never been outside the Cheapeake area. But, I'm not a stupid woman, I read about other places and look at pictures of them.

Too bad. Pertwee was a fav of mine. When I heard Ainley died, my manager gaVE me the night off rather than have me crying over the buffet.

  • "I don't want to set the world on fire-BOOM!" Ahahahaha!! Perfect timing, that! X3

  • God I love Jo. So effervescent.

  • She was a stunner wasn't she? I used to dream about her when I was 10.

  • Aww she's so cute! <3 Thank you for uploading!

  • I found an old videotape of this scene that was in black and white, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't taped off a black and white tv. If this has been colorized, someone did a nice job.

  • It was originally in colour but the tapes were wiped. The B&W film copy is all that survives. It was recoloured by the BBC Doctor Who Restoration Team in 1993 by combining the B&W film with a colour home video recording made in the USA when it was shown there. It was released on VHS but its now deleted - it will be on DVD eventually and today's technology means it will look even better!

  • I could look into her ham-fisted, bun vender eyes for 10,000 years...

  • Bob

  • I love that!! You hand fisted bun vender
