Acrylic balls and smaller balls minimise risks but you are right, they do not reduce them to nil. Don't worry, if after a few months I noice anything negative I will be more interested in preserving my teeth then my tongue piercing. I do not want gum recession or to lose my teeth!
Vaneers would probably be better for me then braces because I have small teeth in a wide jaw and they could move back. I worry that veneers involve damaging the actual tooth underneath tho.
I am always very interested in what drove people to pursue dentistry as a career. What inspired you to go into this field?
Ok, I lied, two questions :-P -
You can see my teeth in this video, I may want some minor corrective work on my top front teeth from canine to canine. I want to keep the gaps but make my teeth more regular and nicer looking in general. What methods would be best for that kind of work. I assume capping but worry about future repercussions.
"you just dont look like the type of girl that would be brave enough to get it done?"
I look like a coward? Or I look too smart to compromise the integrity of my teeth? Both???
I have changed the balls on my barbell to something very low profile and have bought some dental acrylic balls for when it is 100% healed (can't use them before then because they cannot be sterilised, risk of infection). These things very much reduce the risk of damage to teeth and gums from tongue piercing.
"After you first got it done was there any time where it hurt so much that you wanted to take it out?"
Yeah, but it was not the actual tongue that bothered me as much as the web directly below the tongue being rubbed by the 7/8" inital bar when I talked or ate. It became very sore at certain points. Actually piercing the tongue doesn't hurt very much because the piercing goes between the two muscles of the tongue in a natural gap. The swelling for the first 4 days is painful though.
I explained why in the last slide. All types of girls get it done but perhaps some girls don't show it off or make it obvious like others do. Mine will be hidden most of the time because of work but I will know it is there and have fun with all the jewellry I have bought for myself. I did lots of research before doing it, it was not painful at all to be pierced but the swelling for the first 5 days was. It is 3 weeks old now and it doesn't hurt or get in the way. Under my tongue is a little...
...irritated from it rubbing and I think I need to change the one underneath to a half ball to make it smaller. My mouth is still healing and adjusting, apparently it takes 4-6 weeks for complete healing so I wont know what it will really be like until perhaps the 6 week mark. I am very happy with it and forget it is there 80% of the time.
Very cool! How long has it been pierced? It usually takes between one and two months to fully heal from my experience. :) It looks great though! =^_^=
It's day 15 today, I'm still noticing a few slight differences in my speech patterns and after the barbell was changed yesterday a bit of excess saliva (sooo hawt LOL), I'm hoping these will dissapear as my tongue adjusts to the placement and weight of the barbell.
Thanks, I am very happy with it so far even with these minor issues, if they go away then I am in heaven. I love my tongue so much already, I am a very orally fixated person so just being able to run the top ball over the roof of my mouth is a lot of fun for me. And it stopping me biting my nails is awesome too because I was quite embarrassed by eaten up hands :-)
It made you stop biting your nails? haha. Maybe I should get mine tongue pierced. I have been trying to quit for a long time. I don't even realize I am doing it usually.
i have a question.. it said in your video not to drink water? why can you not drink water? thanks :)

No need to worry then! They WILL go away. If this is only day 15 then your body WILL adjust. Well, at least mine did. :-)
