Great soloist, and an alright background. The Achordants did have a much better Background. Support in other words, but your Soloist was very, very good.
this is great. a lot of people have been saying the UNC Anchordants sound better on this, and I may or may not agree. Ha. i think though, that the two groups are close enough talent wise that who one will say is better is all based on personal preference.
@hoofboy14 You are misinformed my dear ungulate. "Most people" are actually saying my band's new video is the best version of "Carry On" is the best on youtube. We took the time to learn all the parts correctly and it shows.
@number1covers oh no yeah dude it's freaking awesome! i love this version haha. my personal preference points towards this one. but hey, don't get too cocky. (:
I love Madison Project so much. I saw them perform for VA All State chorus a few years ago and I still consider it one of the best perfomances I have ever seen. I almost went to JMU for the Project and New and Improv'd. Go JMU for supporting the Arts in so many ways. Thanks, MP for helping keep male acapella groups a crowd pleaser. :) To those down there arguing about pitch and which group is better, it doesn't matter. What matters is that they and the 100s of people who see them have fun.:)
The Achordants are just a high energy group.... well atleast in this song.... but definitely not as musical as these guys. With this group you can also hear every part and the soloist has a more mature voice. Although the Achordants do have better choreography.
keep in mind they also have less people to fill in the all the parts the Achordants have. I completley agree but I give these guys credit for making it sound so good.
What the hell, that audience needs to shut up, that's just rude to other people trying to listen and people in the future trying to watch online or w/e
ok. a technical explanation why thats simply not true.
the song is a classic rock song. we can agree on that.
the achordants soloists sings in falsetto and has zero strength behind the notes. hotting a note does not mean it fits the song. belting and full voice is needed.
Do and Dah syllables do not fit a guitar heavy classic rock song. jzah-na-wana, behr, wehr are exact syllables needed. the musical freedom with the notes of the song are pretty limited since the song has so much going on
i will agree with you, this group is better than the achordants over-all, but you have to keep in mind the extremely high range needed for the song. it's amazing that the soloist could even sing those notes, in the first place. this soloist is much more mature and his voice is fully developed. that's the reason he is better. but i must also commend you for having an ear for detail like you do.
@NewOrleanzSkater its the same arrangement idiot, it's just on this one you can actually hear all the parts, much better, oh and the solo is much clearer and a good deal less arrogant, though i agree that the quality of his voice in the upper register leaves something to be desired
i went to jmu. it was fairly obvious to anyone who heard more than one a capella group at jmu (the school has at least 6 or 7) that while there are a lot of talented singers at the school, madison project was the best
sorry I forgot to respond, I didn't mean that project today is worse than it was a few years ago, today's project is a solid group, I've followed for the past 7 years and I have to say about 3 years ago was when it sounded very, very good, this year it seemed like the music was a little too difficult for any men's acapella at JMU
Very good overall, and a quality arrangement. I'd have to agree with a few previous comments - the lead seemed to be really stretching on those high notes. Maybe a slight key change down would help a little.
really?? You guys think that this performance was bad. In my opinion, this is actually better than many others on youtube. And, the lead singer hit the high notes he needed to hit in order to make the harmony sound great. This is what the others lacked.
In most respects, I would agree with you. But not the soloist. We performed our version of Carry On immediately following the Achordants at ICCA's (the version that is now on YoutTube). Our soloist was much more well received.
@farwelcm I have to say that The Accordants soloist actually was much better. He was in tune, stayed under control and didn't try to force the high notes. He did a much better job of supporting all the notes. Your soloist was good, however, he was pushing to hit the high notes and wasn't fully supported which tended to make him go a little off pitch. As a judge, my vote would go to the Achordants. There are also a few other groups that did this song well, among them, the Naked Voices.
@BIEDS4U have to disagree with you on this, even though the accordants soloist was more in tune on the higher notes, on overall ensemble rather than just a soloist i would have to go with this group over the accordants, for balance and clarity if nothing else
@farwelcm I agree, your soloist is better. I would argue the main reason the Achordant's background was better was because they had more people so they could do more complex melodies.
have to disagree. vowel choices and the arrangement in general are too simplified. there is a choral aspect to achordants that doesnt match the song. and the soloist is trying way to hard to sound pretty.
lead singer was shouting a bit too much on the high notes, rather than sang the higher notes. Otherwise the video was a funlisten. Check out the award winning achordants version though... I think it rates higher imo.
the guy with the clearer upper register that comes in on the three part chorus should be singing the solo... no offense or anything... lead singer you dont have the right tone for the part.
The solist has an awesome voice <3

I'm not sure about the key change down thing.
Yes, you are reaching for the higher notes,
but it gives out a really empowering feeling when you do hit them.
