I'm sort of new to synthesizers, the closest thing I've ever owned to one is the Yamaha DJX and the Roland MV-8000 but I'm looking forward to buying one soon. I've been looking at the MiniKorg XL, Akai's Miniak, Roland's SH-201, Yamaha's CS1x and their AN1x. Not trying to break the bank but anything that can put out an incredible sound with unlimited options and upgrades for $600 or under would be awesome. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Peace.
@poignant4insights don't get a VA, it uses digital occilators. Get one with analog occilators. under $600 you can get:
Roland JX-3P
Roland JX-8P
Korg Poly 800
Korg Poly 61
Sequential Circuits Six-Trak
Moog Concertmate MG-1 (maybe) The MicroKorg XL, Akai Miniak, Roland SH-201...etc are VA synths. If you want the REAL analog sound, then you should get a synthesizer with analog occilators.
If you want to learn more about synthesizers go to VintageSynthExplorer
@LaugermanPROductions Yeah, I think you're right. I ended up buying the Akai Miniak and though it may be the best VA synth out of them all and has a pretty decent sound, I still feel like I hear somethings missing, it still sounds more like a PC-software synthesizer and dosn't have as much warmth and phatness as the analog snyths that it's trying to emulate. I'm definitely going with one of the Roland JX series Synths next time. Thanks for the response.
So many Synthesizers of that time like the Prophet-5, featured a control panel that (although easy for most of us) was quite confusing for the average Joe. With patience, you'd eventually get it. Oberheim's design was very simplistic; each panel block represented something that led to something else. The OBs are easy to wrap your head around and feature a sound so spectacular, so epic, that you could blow doors down with it.
:) so soll das auch sein! schau dass du irgendwo noch einen OB-X ergatterst und du wirst alles andere verkaufen ;) außer den Ju-60, den behalte mal schön! :)
Man, I love the sounds of the OB-Xa. (Not just this video in particular, but in general.) I keep looking for one on EBay (8-voice). Just curious - are you ever going to do a video of the Memorymoog?
@retrosound72 You're welcome. I love Oberheims - any of the good ones such as the SEM systems, the OB-X, the OB-Xa, the OB-8, the Xpander, and the Matrix-6.
Also, would you by chance have access to a Korg Poly 800? I know you've done one of the Poly Six and Mono/Poly but I was just wondering if you could make one of the 800 (or 800 II).
I elect you the Pleasure Principal.

Beautiful - incredible sounding analog synths. Why aren't they making analog synths anymore (apologies to Dave Smith)?

real poly analog is to expensive.

Die harmoniesieren ja voll zusammen die zwei großen Brüder :)
Ich persöhnlich finde einen Oberheim noch mehr Hammer als einen Moog.
