  • She is sublime!

  • who heard her singing salome as herodias at the kennedy center in month?

her voice is still amazing and better live!

  • Fantastic voice, really

  • I love the finale, great tessitura

  • She sounds more as contralto than mezzo. Too nasal in my opinion. No comments abuot her wearing.

  • I admire this voice very much. She reminds me a lot of how Teresa Berganza sounded on her first London/Decca recital of Rossini arias. Her DVD of this opera is also excellent.

  • Io la trovo orrenda!

  • @leprincebeaumont Ma dai !!

  • well said!

  • Thank God there is this recording of a great mezzo who wasn't part of the publicity machine. Bartoli is horrid, and her 15 minutes were used up ages ago.

  • @RVP57 I agree about Bartoli. She started off so well, but in recent years she has really lost what she had as a singer.

  • Brava!

We have to consider, that the recordings /few exception/ never gives back the color and the real sound of the voice.

She is excellent singer, but different then other mezzos with darker, sometimes voluptuous sound.

  • She's bravíssimaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fascinating to compare this with her Orlofsky.... The low notes are better than I expected.

  • Unfortunately so many have never heard these singers in person or in an opera house. There is room for many, but if you are going to compare two fine singers like Bartoli and Horne, you must factor in that Bartoli's voice is a fraction the size of Horne's. That makes a real difference in the opera house and it is much more difficult to move that big voice - thanks

  • The voice is not nasal at all when you listen to it in an opera house. There are very few voices today that are as rich and open as Soffel's. She surely belongs to the category of singers who unfortunately are not "phono-genic".

  • Please listen to Marilyn Horne's version of this - wonderful! But each brings her own personality, voice and degree of artistry and should be appreciated on their own.

  • I dont agree at all pianofolle, if we speak about interpretation Doris Soffel is quite lower than Cecilia Bartoli... For the technique there is no comparation... Madam Bartoli is one of the most beautiful voices of the Opera world today. Indeed i would not she would disappear as i would not that for the brava Soffel. Thay are giving us so wonderful interpretations... let them sing :))

  • oh please. c. bartoli is the most and best commercialized. but that doesnt change the fact that she (bartoli) is a REAL NIGHTMARE as to voice timbre and musical interpretation. i wish she disappeared as fast as possible from the opera world

  • C. Bartoli is simply INCREDIBLE, I have seen her iin live many times, and she is just Perfection... acting, singing and doing everything she does... She will remain as one of the greatests in the opera world ;)

  • yeap ! beautiful !

  • Incroyables vocalises: BArtoli n'a rien inventé!!!

  • Simply beautiful

  • Agree :)
