@xxDaReturnxx think about it.the guy with the stick made the movement from the top to down.he didn't swing from the sides, but anyway,it's not REAL life
What we as martial artists must realize is that NONE of the techniques we learn are to be considered "real-life applicable". Everything we are taught (and I do mean everything) is purely conceptual; it's up to tue individual to take the concepts and interpret them and put them into action in their own unique way.
That being said, this video has some really clever and well developed concepts. Anyone who has a different opinion is most likely taking their training to literally.
LoL, guys! Vids about uechi-ryu bunkai and other old okinawan schools have good comments all the time EVEN THEY USE THE SAME ATTACKS!
This is good bunkai. You don't learn self-defense in a dojo, whatever realistics attacks you might train. You simply learn it on the street, in real situations. There you can find out which simple method is good for you. It might seem unrealistic to others, but it might work for you. Find it out in the street, then come back and tell your insights you gained.
It's not so much an issue of people doing 'sport' interpretations of kata. It's more that they should label it as such making sure that inexperienced people don't think that this is true self defence or a practical application of that movement.
Why are the assailants using karate techniques? Was karate designed to defend against people trained in karate or against untrained robbers, muggers, and other generally violent people?
@bertthepickle This is "sport" bunkai. Not meant to be practical. If you are seeking functional Bunkai, you probably will not fight it on youtube, and if you do it will come in the form of a waza or a drill that does not resemble the same "form" that you see Kata in.
Kata is a two person drill, recorded so an individual can practice and learn on his own. Most of the Sport Karate world do not practice functional bunkai, and anyone in Karate-do is expected NOT to practice functional bunkai.
@Gwisss Yes, sadly, I know. I don't know why I bother posting comments but i feel a duty to help people understand that they're not seeing 'correct' bunkai for these movements. Whatever the originator of this kata (Itosu) intended for its movements it was certainly not this.
Kata is a distillation of fighting techniques meant to be used in protecting oneself from violent assault NOT from another karateka throwing ineffective techniques from too far away.
Some of what was demonstrated was kind of cool, but mostly there wasn't much valid bunkai. Bunkai works best when examined against a single opponent and a single attack. All my bunkai works with this theory. It simply makes more sense. Another problem with Most Bunkai when I watch a Bunkai video there never seems to be a rhyme or reason as to why certain techniques are taught in say Shodan and others in Nidan or Godan... etc...
Excelentes aplicaciones, buena técnica. Muchas gracias me han brindado muy buenas ideas para compartir con mis alumnos.
