  • is there a audio-book learning package for this beautiful language any where i dont care if its a french website to order it can someone help me asap, also for occitan language

  • @changolini One more comment. Dzakye's lessons will be published within a year. But if you are interested to get the texts contact dzakye at arpitan dot ch .

  • Hello @changolini ! To my knowledge, such a learning package does NOT exist. There are some teaching methods in Savoy or Valais but only for use at schools. On amazon dot fr you can find "Le Francoprovençal de Poche"(conversation) by Jean-Baptiste Martin. If you go to arpitania dot eu you can also find the "Librairie Arpitane" (Arpitan bookshop) and you will find some more books there.Online, you can go to viddler dot com and look for Dzakye who turned 42 lessons of Savièse arpitan into videos.

  • Onna galésa leingua qu'è l'arpetan. Lè salutachon dâo Payî-de-Vaud à nin z'ami de Liyon et de Savoué.

  • @abaddon1337 Grant marci a tè ami, noutro lengoua mucièr ma y a adès dé gens come mè por lo fâre aprendre u famelye Savoyârd. Savouè Libro por la toya, viva noutro Rê Emanuele Filiberto di Savoia.

  • @NoirHeureux: If you want to learn the language online, it's more complex; people have not yet integrated the standard writing to language lessons. Language teaching manuals still teach the pronunciation of one particular region... On ' patwe ch ' = dot in between, you will find videos teaching the arpitan of Savièse, on Valais, Switzerland. Or here: notre savoie free fr defaultv2_a htm, a fulll course of Savoy arpitan (insert dots , and a slash between 'fr' and 'default...'.

    Regards @dzakye

  • @arpitania I'm @NoirHeureux sorry I hadn't read, I closed this account, anyway, thank you for the responde, i haven't seen the page you wrote yet, but anyway thank you. I do really want to help to conserve this language. Greets from Colombia! =)

  • @NoirHeureux: Hello! Thank you for your qeustion. We do have a standardised orthography. It is the "Dictionnaire des mots de base du francoprovençal : Orthographe ORB supradialectale standardisée" which was written in 2003 by Dominique Stich. We also have a francoprovencal wikipedia page: frp wikipedia org = with dots in between.

  • How do you want to improve the language status, having no stadardised form... ¬¬ I would learn it easier if I hade a standardised orthography. Maybe Savoyard must be the source....

  • I've studied French, but only understand a few phrases from your dialogue , very very interesting, thank you, nice sights in the background also!

  • Is arpitan very different from french?

  • Hello Voodoozeko!

Your question is difficult to answer. You could say that it is not very different since both are Latin languages and both are spoken in France. Actually, in France there used to be 3 latin languages: provencal (or 'occitan') in the south, francoprovencal (or 'arpitan') in the middle, all around Mount White (Mont Blanc), and French and its 'oil' dialects in the North. There is a kind of continuous change when you pass from the one language to the other.

  • So if you say something to someone from paris in arpitan he wouldnt understand much or even nothing? Becouse for example our language (slovene) is slavic and if i want to talk with croat who also speak slavic language (croatian) i dont understand him much except for some similar words. Is situation same with french and arpitan?

  • That's correct.

Let's say that 70% are almost the same; different pronunciation, different meanings (meanings slightly changed: connotations, for example). In Arpitan as in Occitan or Italian, there are stresses (accentuations of some syllables). This is a supplementary problem if you only understand French which is basically unaccentuated (accentuation (stress) has got no phonemic importance).

  • However, linguists have recognized each of these languages as basically different.

(special criteria apply to call a language different: not only phonology, but also phonemic systems, and others).

Actually, arpitan is not only spoken in France but also in Italy and Switzerland, where the Duchy of Savoy used to exist. It used to consist in an economical unit in the middle of Europe

  • Its got Geneva and Lyon as town centers, the Grand St Bernard pass, the Mont Blanc pass and the Mont Cenis pass as economical assets.

As you know latin languages are numerous. Romanian, Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese are the national language of single states. Rumantsch is one of the the four national languages of Switzerland.

Arpitan is recognized and protected in Italy, but not in France and Switzerland.

  • Do you think arpitanians and occitanians should have their own states?

  • totally! it's an independent language halfway between French and Occitan (another Romance language which is from the south of France)
