  • it sounds like: cursum wounds, heartbeat seas :)

    Still love it!!

  • cursing moons, burping seagulls is what it sounds like

  • it's verbum sapient (wise words, or a word to the wise, depending on context). but really doesn't matter. music matters, not translation. music doesn't care what language it's in.

  • lyrics are wrong. this song is latin and the phonetics are inaccurate. but it's a great song.

  • @TheEvanroberts phonetics means how it sounds. these aren't words at all...

But i guess it is also uploaded for those who just wana listen too.

  • @dragonfreak555555 Yes they are real words. They are latin. Yes we all know the definition of, "phonetic." And yes, your phonics is incorrect. The first part of the song's lyrics are sung, "CUR-su-UM PER-fi-ci-O;" hence the name of the song, "Cursum Perficio."

  • ..Heart so full, Heart beating... No?

    WHAT'S IT ALL MEAN??

    Still love it.

  • the phonetics are helpful thanks :)

  • This song is entirely in Latin. The pronunciations are wrong, not even close to what is being said. "Cur-su-um Per-fee-cee"

  • before St Patrick..who was a spanish priest arrived in ireland..they had their own tongue.

fortunately there is still gaelic alive. celtic another matter. this could be a mixture...however it does not escape the intention in presentation of something quite unique.

  • oh ? and there is no tongue which escaped the latins grasp? gaelic or found in the celtic tongue?

  • To all those latin critic wannabes that can neither appreciate Eithne's singing of this song nor the effort dragonfreak put into the this video... SHOVE IT WHERE THE SUN DON'T SHINE, SIDEWAYS! Where do you get off on criticizing the singer who, if it hadn't been for her, you'd never had heard the song, or criticizing the person who put an honest effort into making this video. Here's a shocker for you: You are not the center of this or any universe. Truth hurts, right? Now go cry about it.

  • hope it helps

  • Speaking of Latin and how not to speak/write it: I get really tired, really fast of how poorly English-speaking people (Americans, Brits) pronounce Latin words and phrases commonly heard in the English language. They don't even seem to try, really. It's truly music to my ears when the rare person actually puts some effort and learning into it. Enya, in this song (which I absolutely love), unfortunately, is not that rare person. But I love her music and always will.

  • Song is beautiful but this subtitles... masacre. Do you really hear any "poh-poh"?

  • very dramatic.

  • Schönes Lied, nur muss ich ganz ehrlich sagen, dass ich es nicht leiden kann, wenn man latein mit Akzent redet!

  • dragonfreak555555 Very good attempt, but I am afraid that no tienes ni idea de latin, my Anglo-saxon friend

  • I think what dragonfreak means with this video is not how write the lyrics but how you PRONOUNCE the words.

  • @rachetandclaglitchde No, it's how to MISPRONOUNCE the words. Badly.

  • These lyrics are a mockery!! I got the CD, nothing to do with the real lyrics. Unfortunely I don't know how to make videos otherwise I would make my own video with the right lyrics.

  • They lyrics to this song are printed on the jacket of the CD.

  • AHHHHH i lovvveee this song :)

  • Latin: Cursum perficio. Verbum sapienti: quo plus habent, eo plus cupiunt. Post nubila, Phoebus Eternum I finish the course. A word to the wise: the more [people] have, the more they want. After the clouds, Phoebus For Eternity...
  • jajaja... a really good sound... but the lyrics sucks

  • Here are the Latin lyrics:

    Cursum perficio.

    Verbum sapienti:

    quo plus habent,

    eo plus cupiunt.

    Post nubila, Phoebus

    Iternum

  • @JKR9509 Translation:

    I finish the course.

    A word to the wise:

    the more [people] have,

    the more they want.

    After the clouds, Phoebus

  • @JKR9509 I've always loved the portion of that 'A word to the wise; the more people have, the more they want'

  • @shaeso Me too.

  • @JKR9509 It's just so true( ;

  • @shaeso Yeah. It really is. Although I love this song. My favorite part is that part. :)

  • wow......note to self, don't try latin....because if i get it wrong...a bunch of smug ass "know it all's" like yourselves will call me an idiot for ruining your pathetic lives....who cares?! it's a good song!!!

  • Cursum Perfico I end my journey Verbum Sapienti A word to the wise quo plus habent the more (people) have eo plus cupiunt the more they want Post nubila, Phobus After the coulds comes the sun Iternum
  • Man it´s all wrong dude! Search for the lyrics before writing on a video!

Btw, Phoebus is the Latin name for the Sun God.

  • Latin is beautiful. These words are wrong...post nubile Phoebus

  • Latin is beautiful. The basis for all the romantic languages

  • cur-su-um per-fi-ci-o

  • Latin: Cursum perficio. Verbum sapienti: quo plus habent, eo plus cupiunt. Post nubila, Phoebus Iternum Translated: I finish the course. A word to the wise: the more [people] have, the more they want. After the clouds, Phoebus. ("Iternum" - In all probability, it is either a misspelling of "eternum" (eternal), a misspelling of "iterum" (again and again), or a poetic form meaning "journey".)
  • The literal Latin properly spelled is more useful than English phonetics here, I think.

In my view, Enya's scariest song. All her dark, ominous themes are in Latin. A close runner up is Pax Deorum. Must have something to do with her Irish Catholic upbringing.

  • That gave me chills! very powerful song. thx 4 posting!!!!

  • ..just a note about the last line in Latin, i believe it is: 'Quod post nubila, Phoebus'....not 'Post nubila, Phoebus'....(rough translation: 'and after the dark clouds, sun')

  • This song is so haunting like being in a grave yard late at night, a thunderstorm occasionaly lighting it up. Especialy the ending of the song.

  • if you like enya listen to this guy's music dreuxschwartz

  • Oh my god. This is so totally wrong it's hilarious. Thanks for illuminating my evening.

  • leave the english phonetics as it is please. It is very funny. :) If you take it out, your video loses all its charm.

  • @polyglut it´s like misheard lyrics....

  • Totally the wrong lyrics! How can you misspell it when it's in the title?

  • love this song..<33

  • Of Course is Latin and its easy to read... may be because I speak spanish :)

  • "Cursum Perficio" was the name of the last place where Marilyn Monroe lived before dying.

    Cursum Perficio

    My way ends here

    Verbum Sapienti, eo Plus cupiunt

Wise Words are the most desired

Quo plus habent, eo plus cupiunt

Those who have the most things, always crave for more

    Post Nubila, Phoebus

After the clouds, Phoebus (Apollo is the god of the sun)

Iternum doesn't exists : it may be "Iterum" : for the second time" or "Iter Num" : "Travel Now" with the innuendo "Before your way stops"

  • I don't believe ... and the internet? and the lyrics at inlay cd? and the brain?

Before you make a video with lyrics in a language that you don't know, search in anywhere, but search, sorry but this is a shit!!

  • i didn't know latin people went on youtube O.O;;

    I'm American/korean and i like this song

  • The text should be Cursum Perficio. Verbum sapienti: quo plus habent, eo plus cupiunt. Post nubila, Phoebus Iternum. Which in turn translates as: I finish the course. A word to the wise: the more [people] have, the more they want. After the clouds, Phoebus --Phoebus being the roman god of sunlight, prophecy, music and poetry. Nice eh. I really like this piece by Enya. Beautiful.

  • Should be

    Cursum Perficio.

    Verbum Sapienti:

    Quo plus habent,

    eo plus cupiunt.

    Post nubila, Phoebus

    Iternum.

  • notice the song is CURSUM PERFICIO? cursumu pereesio isnt right... cursum(ursum) perficio(cio) duh -.-

  • LOL! i CAN'T STOP LAUGHING!! The comments are so funny, but true, latin words in this song are badly pronounced but the song is so beautiful and Enya does an incredible performance. Give Enya and DRAGONFREAK some credit please!

  • bee-el-zee-bub doo-dee-doo and da-da-da

  • i love this song and because you do, you are a good person, i loved it, it is the way you saw it and THATS HOW YOU EXPRESSED IT, DONT CHANGE THE WAY YOU HEARD IT you listened to it, thats what music is for...good job!

  • I really appreciate the effort, but I must say same as the WUNJIO and alchemistra.

Phonetic english cannot be associated with this song ! Latin was always something like sacred .. and this song means from me something totally high, beyond me, something at the highest positions. If I don't see the ancient and original written latin there... I can't watch it anymore, it spoils my enjoyment.

    I'm sorry ^ NO for this :-(

Remade it with real latin and I will worship you.....

  • Alright. I'll go find the Lyrics somewhere and re-do this then. seems to me the way i did it isn't so good..

  • You don't have to do that! If they don't like it, they don't have to listen to it.

  • @roblpere YES HE DOES! It is embarrassing and it gives wrong information.

  • @GodmyX right! It's not "cur su mu" for example. It's Cur-su-um or Cursum, just like the title of the song ;)

  • @GodmyX

There were TWO distinct forms of Latin, low and high. One should not discard the infant with the water from the basin...

  • @TheMercilessEye Mister. From the time, I've written this have passed like 2 years.Believe it or not,but I started to ACTUALLY learn latin year ago.To be honest, i'm pretty crazy to latin and without much of ego,I'd say that I'm on the half-

    way of being expert...

I know very well which kinds of languages, that could be marked as "Latin",were present in human history and I can tell you with absolutely clear conscience, that this one (only in subtitles, singing is absolutely perfect) is not latin.

  • @GodmyX

You're likely right...and my guess (based on most of her work) is that this is likelier to be some sort of british isles tongue - though which one is anybody's guess, since I'm not up on distinguishing Celtic from Gaelic or whatever.

  • latin, please

  • Oh, I forgot it! "Blee-oo-bloo-oh-skip-bi-et" it's "eo plus cupiunt"..

Funny: you wrote in three different ways "eo plus cupiunt"..

    "Poh-poh-ski-bi-nah-biiiiiii-bous" = "Post nubila, Phoebus" ("Po-ost nu-bi-la, Phoe-e-ebus").

"oou-feu-nos-saba-bei-et" = "Quo plus habent"; and then she says "qu-o plus ha-bent, eo -plus -cu-pi-unt". You wrote it in another different way!

The only nearly correct word is Eterna: Iternum. The meaning's the same.

But what you did is complex, so I appreciate it.

  • excuse-me.. "Cur-su-mu Per-ee-ci-mu" should be "cur-sum cur-sum per-fi-ci-o"?...

Yes, it's latin, of course, and also bad spoken (I can clearly hear that the singer is anglosaxon, because the vowels are awful).

I'm sure that Enya is wonderful; she's brilliant, she's one of the best... and this is not the only song in latin she wrote.

But... you can't absolutely say "Cur-bu-sa-bi-et-t" meaning "verbum sapienti": I think you understand that it's a bit different...

    But, in general, nice idea..

  • @WUNJIO actually Enya is an Irish-Celtic musician band.

  • @WUNJIO Enya's full name is Eithne Ní Bhraonáin and thats a pure Irish Gaelic name, also she is from Gweedore, County Donegal, Ireland

  • @RJHOLMES2009 yes, I know that. So what's the matter about what I said? My comment is not about Enya's problem, it's about misspelling... I listen to Enya till I was a child, I'm not ignorant... And actually it's not a band, but a person. Enya is her professional name. As I see, you said two different things in your replies: first she's a band, then she's a person with a name.

  • @WUNJIO I never said you are ignorant I was just informing you, because at first you were saying Enya is Anglo-Saxon when she is actually Irish. haha I must have forgot to remove my first comment.

  • @RJHOLMES2009 well... Now I'm in doubt, but probably you're right: Irish isn't Anglosaxon, but Celtic... well, it doesn't matter. It's ok.. :)

  • @WUNJIO Okay, a quick linguistics course here: Celtic is the root language of Brythonic & Goidelic (gaelic). Gaelic has 3 branches; Manx, Highland Scots, & Irish.

Irish gaelic has 3 dialects; Munster, Connaught, & Donegal (Eithne's native tongue). The Highland & Donegal dialect were the same until roughly 600yrs. ago. I know of this because my Highland ancestors originally came from north Ireland (Eithne's home turf) between 400 & 500AD.

  • @WUNJIO Actually, Enya is the name of the business triumvirate of Eithna, Roma & Nicky Ryan. Enya is also the english spelling of Eithna.

  • @WUNJIO Eithna wrote the music, Roma Ryan wrote the lyrics, as she's done with all the songs in which Eithna sings, except of course, "The Frog Prince" & "Dreams".

  • @WUNJIO I think you'll find that Enya is a Celt and not one of those Anglo-Saxon late-comers!

  • creepy song
