Im 12 and I decided to go natural out of whim, and im actually kind of proud that i did. im the first and only girl in my family that has almost natural hair, and that actually wants natural hair.
Hmm interesting. I don't have breakage that much but when I do get it occastionally, I'm going to try this =) and Dr. miracle never really worked for me lol.
also im relaxed...umm they have a website and a product line and i URGE you (especially african americans) to check it out...stuff is awesome...CANTU!
cantu products...love it and its made for like...hair...all kinds and they have like everything...i use the shea butter conditioning cream stuff lol and the pomade for on the go and it contains all the good things hair (especially black hair!) needs because as african americans, we tend to have dryer hair...and iv found that this is great and it has multi uses...umm also, i may or may not flat iron and most of thier stuff like counts as a heat protectant which i LOVE!.
Dearest Erin, Aphoghee is good but it smells like funky eggs,Nexus has one that is just as good and smells much better eventhough it is a llittle more costly but so worth it! Much love,
If you want to smooth out your hair their is the all natural cherry lola treatment with like baking soda, yogurt, and food amino acids. It work great for my sis and keep her off the relaxer
A good thing to do is work on your insides as well as your outside. As far as hair, use natural products as aloe vera and avocado. You can mix these together and apply to hair, leave for a while then wash out. Also Eat healty, take vitamins (A, C and E), drink lots of water and have a good night sleep (stress pays a toll on hair). I have heard many talks about moroccan oil, I will start this soon.
its starting to get hot in socal can you tell me what i should wear in my natural hair to protect if from the heat and sun damage? what i can use daily to keep it moisturized?i want something that i'll be able to wip out of my purse and just put on. maybe like a spray i could make?
ahhh its so difficult. i haven't seen much any breakage (thats because i don't brush my hair constantly like i use to) so i think i have that under control, but i want to keep it moisturized. thanks for the video.
the glycerin, distilled water, and favorite conditioner spray is my favorite! makes my hair soft and misturized and ina small spray bottle that fits oh so easily in my purse:-)
I'm finding that protein is key for me in keeping breakage at bay. I used the Aphogee 2-min & it worked great. I definitely seeing less breakage. I'm going to see if Aubrey's GPB works as a natural alternative, though.
You should try this product called bio lustre. it is a very potent hair treatment that I first tried 2 weeks ago. A lot o celebritys use it like hally berry and heidi klum. Now, I just think it is hollywoods best kept secret!lol! it repairs ur hair instantly. I didn't think that it was 4 arican american hair but tried it anyway and am happy I did. I am new 2 youtube but it will probably be my first video.
oh well what do you know this i just what i was looking for! so you can just put this on whenever you feel like it? as much as you want? i have natural hair though and it is not relaxed.
U are totally awesome. Thanku sooo much for ur tips and experiences. I am going out shopn 2moro for Redkin products and Mr.Miracle grow. My hair is long and natural and i kno that with ur tips it will continue to stay that way and only get longer. U Go Girl. U are a Gem.
Yeah, my coils always return right after I clarify. This is why I always clarify once every month to two months to rebalance/untangle my hair. When the coils snap back into place, my hair tangles less.
How do you wash your hair without it tangling? My hair is thick and coiled/curly and I have to wash it in 6 separate sections to keep it from tangling...
It is not possible to wash without tangling if you have 4a/4b hair. But there are some methods you can combat the tangling with: 1) Use a Moisturizing shampoo and pick your hair out (with a wide toothed comb or pick) as you wash it or the method I use which is wash it withOUT combing then deep condition and leave it in for at LEAST 1-2 hours (I usually go overnight) Then when I wake up in the morning, do a light shampoo and conditioning and comb my hair out while wet...works like a charm = )
i straighten my hair everyday but its dry, split end, falling out Bad (I CAN SHAKE IT AND IT FALLS OUT)and Real control works best on my hair ive dye my hair at least 10 times a year or more and wat store did u get the Aphagey** stuff at?
well what i do if your going to be a natural then i do NOT straighten my hair unless it is for an ocassion because then if you keep using heat then your not being a natural so that is my tip and i do not wash it out the next day i let i slowly come out by its self so i do not do any harm.
I am natural and have been for almost a year, but I'm finding that I'm having trouble am small portion of hair in the left back area of my head. Its itchy and starts breaking off. I can tell that the skin cells are dead. I don't knwo WHY this is happening. I don't knwo what to use to liven up the skin cells again. I want to continue growing my hair and not shave it off again.
I have really damaged hair and I hate it.. i had a really bad perm incident and omg.. it ruined my hair it got damaged and now its just breaking off so badly from time to time and i have to get it cut a little above my shoulders and everytime i get a perm i see my hair is a inch or so past my shoulders every time so it kills to to have to get it cut. so i'll try that and see if that aphogee stuff works before my next perm in nov. 17
I only get a a TOUCH UP PERM thats only $like $3.50-$4.00 because I only get the new growth and just straighten the rest of my hair when its dry. It makes since because once you relax your hair, u don't have to keep relaxing it. it jus damages it more. I will relax my whole head with I wear braids for months, but thats about it.
I have been natural since 1997. To prevent breakage i use nioxin shampoo & conditioner #6, jojoba oil, finger comb and wrap my hair after wash & every nite. I just started using a detangle spray for kids which works great. If i want my hair straighter natural style i use lotta body setting lotion with my wraps.I don't cowash b/c it causes more damage than benefit. I just started using a leave in conditioner b/c i needed a product with sunblock.
The more organic your products are the more that should help you. I have started using natural products as of this year and I like it much better. Try checking out the channel "curlychronicles" and if possible, let me know how it goes... You can also check out the channel "ladykpnyc". Much love. ^_^
hey just a heads up...at Ulta starting sept.7,2008 to sept 20, 2008.... all redken products are buy 2 get one free plus their regular $3.50 coupoun will also be in effect ... i haven't tried the redken stuff on my (relaxed)hair but i'm gonna take your ur word for it and try some stuff 4 the 1st time during this special..wish me luck... hope its still working well for u
I've seriously damaged my hair in the past year. Literally every day I would straighten my hair and my hair got FRIED.
i was watching iamgrape1119's videos and she said saturating her hair in coconut oil really moisturizes it. i do that about once a week now and it makes my hair super soft and healthier
My hair is past my shoudlers and more of a wavy curly, but stil VERY MUCk black hair!
Anyways I want ot share with you that I JUST started using pure avocado oil i found at a health food store, and giiiiirrrrrlll! I live in utah with dry air and heat and my hair kept getting tangled and dry. but all natural avocado oil is like this secret weapon for black hair i never knew about. It was only 7 bucks for 4 oz which is good because you only need to put in alittle each daily.
As a natural when you leave your hair out alot it breaks stop leaving your hair out put them is some indivduals and leave it for about a month I promise you growth.
I have the same problem with the back hairs. My hair is relaxed and it's a decent length -a litte bit past shoulder length. Believe me, it was a long time coming. My hair used to be soooooo damaged. However, my back was really starting to break so I went to micros for awhile. It's growing, but it's still shorter than I would like. I think I'll try this ApHogee treatment since you said it helps you. Thanks for this!
I have been using Doo Grow which has been working pretty well. I really have seen growth and my hair is becoming healthy again. I have seen that thickness and it has a natural bounce to it. I have been using pantene for natural hair, which isn't great. So I think im going to try the redken products to get it clean. Aphogee is a really good product. I used that when my hair was permed and loved it. Alos biotin vitamins are really good at promoting healthy hair growth.
Just wanted to let you know I tried that Redken Real Control and LOVED IT my hair just ate it up and was super soft afterwards...I am also all natural since May 05, but I keep my hair pressed.
I agree Redken intense renewal mask is the business. I don't know if you have tried the crema care but thats moisturizing too. I wish I had some super tip about the breakage. For all that it's worth - natural does suit you.
i'm going to try the aphogee products. i have terrible breakage and i'm losing hope that my hair will ever grow again. i'll also look into dr. miracle.
What works for me is a decent trim & 2 strand twist & leave it alone. I do a no poo' routine as well. I may go as long as 2 month before I use any actual shampoo in my hair. One thing I do is use regular conditioner as a leave in. Try shea butter pomade by Kemi at night & a cap. In the morn rinse & add reg conditioner as leave in. I never took the twist out, just gently massaged them. The combo of the extra conditioner & leaving my hair alone allowed it to heal.
I hope I don't sound completely ignorant when I ask this but here it goes. I have really damaged hair and nothing seems to work and then I was reading everyone's comments about how great APHOGEE is so now i'm intrigued but I went to the website and is it really only for african american hair? This saddens me! I'm caucasian so would it definitely not work for me???
Im not scandalous but NO, Aphoghee is NOT only for African Americans. Anyone can use it. The key is using a good moisturizing conditioner after it. The conditioner marketed with Aphogee, Balancing Moisturizer, does not work well to add the moisture back into the hair. I would use Kenra Moisturizing Conditoner or one from Biolage, even Herbal Essences.
Good Luck w/ your journey. Aphogee is actually really good (for me anyway) so I hope you achieve the same results. Also have u tried jajoba hot oil treatments? They help.
Hey Girl I left you so many comments before on your other videos but they werent going through I actually gave up. YouTube Mistake but I wont hold it against them. I try to rewrite them again xoxox.
have you ever thought about locking your hair?....I think dreads would look wonderful on you and I am not even the biggest fan of them...I know a few ppl who have dreads, and I haven't decided to go that route myself but I think you would look fabolous in them...Through the years I've had numerous problems with my hair, its been colored permed, natural, pressed, twisted, braided, weaved, you name it butright now I'm doing the weave thing hoping that my hair gets a lil better but thanks 4 the tutorials
Hey, I haven't really considered it seriously. I thought about it in passing, but I am no where near getting serious about the thought! I am working on getting a weave myself, just because my hair just needs to rest and hide!
Erin- I am soo happy that you're still truckin' in your natural hair journey. Remember, as I said before, the point is you HAVE natural hair, the length is irrelevant (but important to you, I understand! & will come with time). Good to hear you don't shampoo often.. bc natural oils are the best thing for curly hair. The only problem gets to be though, that the product you use builds and builds. So make sure your gel doesn't contain alcohol or dimethicone.. I'll write you a message soon & explain
plz plz dont use gel in your hair alcohol free or not they make the hair reeeaaaallllyyyy dry trust me organics olive oil brings out nice coils in the hair. but remember your hair is inherited and whatever ever your family back ground is you will mainly get the same. jus work with wot you got. yur hair always looks good by the way. use organics olive oil instead of gel and hair grips dont know wot u call it in america but thats wot we call it in england an that should hold your hair it hold mine
I've used Aphogee too, and I put the fermadoyl for chemically treated hair in everything that i put on my hair. (mostly IC products)It worked years ago for me too, I have a nerve spot in the back that just wont grow.
is that the stuff that smells like egg? haha, yeah my sister that i was talking to you about she's 18 & she uses all that and so yeah im around it a lot!
Hi, its me again I ran outta space! But anyhoo, Ive been all natural for 2 1/2 years and my hair went from like 1/2 inche to like a really big afro and still growing! My hair never grew like that when I had a perm! I would love share what I do (which is not much at all) but Im new to this whole "youtube" thing, I don't even know how to do all of that posting video stuff.
so anyhoo, I'd like to say great job on your tutorials an keep up the good work!!!
First I would like to say that you do a really good job on your tutorials. Im really learning alot with all information that you put on here. Keep up the good work girly!!! Second, I would like to say that you are making a really good decision by staying all natural for a couple of years because let me tell you, your hair will be song long by then you won't know what happened, especially with all the conditioning that you are doing to it. Trust me, I know!!! Ive been all natural for...
I have been using the leave in treatment from aphogee and love it! I recently bought the green tea reconstrucr and it works wonders also!! Im happy u decided to stay natural love ur hair and ur vids
yayy! i just bought the aphogee line...and ive heard nothing but good things! it makes me happy b/c it gives me hope for my hair breakage...i just wish i would have found it earlier...im doing the treatment this week...cant waittt!!!
oh and by the way. i saw you used the fantasia IC and water. ms brice has a recipe for flaxseed gel that is sick. i used to use the curlz goddess glaze and her recipe is off the hook, plus its natural and not drying like the store gels.
You should try alma and shikakae(sp?) powder mixed with water. there are some really good tips on najahface's page that are actually natural things you can try. vegetable glycerin and water is a really good moisturizer daily. check out her page maybe you can circumvent breakage if you follow some of the natural recipes.
I usually do the pre-poo/co wash;I use it between my relaxers because I only use relaxers 3 times a year.My hair don't hold relaxers at all very well and my hair is really soft and thick.I usually use honey, egg, and milk or any natural product in my mixes, get a hot towel put it over my head for 15 minutes and wash it out.And I use Sulu! That stuff did some wonders to my hair.I think that stuff really grew my hair out because my regimen hasn't changed until I started using it.
Scalp massages really help stimulate growth in the stubborn areas. I had some issues with my edges and paying extra attention to it really helped get it back on track.
I love that Aphogee treatment for strength. I use it every 6 weeks 7 it cut my shedding and my hairs elasticity is so much better.
I think for me I had to really realize that just because my hair "looks" dry it doesn't mean it actually is dry. I am the queen of over moisturizing and I had to really get a handle on that in order for my hair to thrive.
I also had to learn that braids, be extensions or natural braids are a great protective options, but straw & rod sets are protective as well.
I give you props for hanging in there. One thing I always tell naturals is to drink a lot of water and watch the diet. This is mad important. Also, find a regimen, keep it simple as possible and maintain, Make sure your head bands and such are the right materials because rubber, wool or even harsh cottons ruin the hair. Hope this helps.
I love that Aphogee Damage control it is the bestest thing on the planet. It saved my hair after a bad dye job. I used to be natural a few years ago i was told by this woman who has amazing natural hair gave me a recipe for hair tea. You get some herbs nettles bergamont chamomile and somthing else you brew soak it hot water til the water cools pour the water into a spray bottle and use like a leave in I loved the way it made my hair feel. I guess you can use what ever herbs you wish.
Im trying not too, but its hard

shampoo your hair
DO NOT WATER IT FIRST.
get the shampoo lathered and mixed completely with the oil THEN rinse it out
condition and apply normal products and style as usual afterwords
you can do it once a week if you like, too
it works miracles for me
hope it helps
izzzzzzzzzzzzzyy 2 years ago
i recently just got my hair back to normal after it was damaged worst than i had ever had it.
of course the whole shampoo less often and conditioning products
but i used a trick that uses kitchen suplies and it works excelently.
heat up some olive oil on the stove till its warm, not hot becos it will burn you
then pour it on your hair
all over in and through it.
the wrap your hair with clear plastic wrap and if the oil it cool blow dry it
leave that on for about fifteen minutes and

i dont even have african hair , but i have really thick curly persian hair that i relax like every 4 months ,
i try to deep condition at least 2x a month .
yeah if i had to suggest anything, it'd be don't use a lot of heat damage to your hair .
the relaxer i use is Mizani Rhelaxer in the lightest treatment & i let it sit for like 30 minutes
& dont use it on your ends if you dont cut your hair often or else your ends will litterally burn off, just do the new growths

I mix the following oils with Mane&Tail conditioner for an everyday moisturizer:
olive, coconut, avocado and jojoba.
I am relaxed so my hair just sucks this up.
I use 1/2 an oil and 1/2 conditioner in an old shampoo bottle or any clear bottle and shake it up until a lotion consistency has formed.

I used that when my hair was permed and loved it. Alos biotin vitamins are really good at promoting healthy hair growth.

Just wanted to let you know I tried that Redken Real Control and LOVED IT my hair just ate it up and was super soft afterwards...I am also all natural since May 05, but I keep my hair pressed.

how much did the redken Intense Renewal Super Moisturizing Mask cost
stupidbrain1 3 years ago
I got it for $15.00
heavenlea7 3 years ago
I agree Redken intense renewal mask is the business. I don't know if you have tried the crema care but thats moisturizing too. I wish I had some super tip about the breakage. For all that it's worth - natural does suit you.

By the was, do you have and RSS feed for your blog? I'd love to follow your progress.
On the few occasions I get the straight urge I go to the Dominicans, they work wonders and never pull my hair.
pud38 3 years ago

I'm caucasian so would it definitely not work for me???
cactusbutt 3 years ago
Im not scandalous but NO, Aphoghee is NOT only for African Americans. Anyone can use it. The key is using a good moisturizing conditioner after it. The conditioner marketed with Aphogee, Balancing Moisturizer, does not work well to add the moisture back into the hair. I would use Kenra Moisturizing Conditoner or one from Biolage, even Herbal Essences.

Hey girl sent,s u are caucasian i would use
the avocado find in the vegetables dept & mayo(hellman)and mash the avocado up fine and add
the mayo and put on your hair with a P-cap
this is a conditioner for your hair, and u will see it stop hair breakages and gives it
protein and make it grow, use like every 2weeks
My friend is caucasian it made her hair stop
breakages and grew like crazy, but nothing for mine.Domincan use this also.

Good Luck w/ your journey. Aphogee is actually really good (for me anyway) so I hope you achieve the same results. Also have u tried jajoba hot oil treatments? They help.

have you ever thought about locking your hair?....I think dreads would look wonderful on you and I am not even the biggest fan of them...I know a few ppl who have dreads, and I haven't decided to go that route myself but I think you would look fabolous in them...Through the years I've had numerous problems with my hair, its been colored permed, natural, pressed, twisted, braided, weaved, you name it butright now I'm doing the weave thing hoping that my hair gets a lil better but thanks 4 the tutorials
janvier426 3 years ago

Kella86 3 years ago 2
plz plz dont use gel in your hair alcohol free or not they make the hair reeeaaaallllyyyy dry trust me organics olive oil brings out nice coils in the hair. but remember your hair is inherited and whatever ever your family back ground is you will mainly get the same. jus work with wot you got. yur hair always looks good by the way. use organics olive oil instead of gel and hair grips dont know wot u call it in america but thats wot we call it in england an that should hold your hair it hold mine

I've used Aphogee too, and I put the fermadoyl for chemically treated hair in everything that i put on my hair. (mostly IC products)It worked years ago for me too, I have a nerve spot in the back that just wont grow.
blklacquer 3 years ago
Fermadoyl...yes!! I heard that stuff was the business!! I have a few bottles in my product inventory! I forgot all about it.
scandalousbeauty 3 years ago
Hi Erin, I've been natural for years and some of my favorite products are:
Veganese Conditioner from LUSH. Makes me hair feel like buttered silk
Organic Virgin Coconut Oil - I mix this with olive oil sometimes. I try to apply some daily to combat dryness
Joico Moisture Recovery Treatment Balm - its so thick it does not even want to come out of the tube lol.. Brilliant stuff!
Silica - I take a supplement daily and I think it has made my hair sooo much stronger and less prone to breaking
sendrine1122 3 years ago
Make sure the real control treatment doesn't have protein in it. Good luck! I've only been natural for like, a month.

Hello,
First I would like to say that you do a really good job on your tutorials.

Using a deep conditioning hair mask once every week or two weeks helps with damaged hair!
KyleChristiannn 3 years ago
oh and by the way. i saw you used the fantasia IC and water. ms brice has a recipe for flaxseed gel that is sick. i used to use the curlz goddess glaze and her recipe is off the hook, plus its natural and not drying like the store gels.
frankiebearsmom 3 years ago
You should try alma and shikakae(sp?) powder mixed with water. there are some really good tips on najahface's page that are actually natural things you can try. vegetable glycerin and water is a really good moisturizer daily. check out her page maybe you can circumvent breakage if you follow some of the natural recipes.

Work it out! Glad you made your choice and stickin' it out.

I had some issues with my edges and paying extra attention to it really helped get it back on track.

this is the second video that has the aphogee in it
I think Im gonna get that this weekend

I love that Aphogee treatment for strength. I use it every 6 weeks 7 it cut my shedding and my hairs elasticity is so much better.
I think for me I had to really realize that just because my hair "looks" dry it doesn't mean it actually is dry. I am the queen of over moisturizing and I had to really get a handle on that in order for my hair to thrive.
I also had to learn that braids, be extensions or natural braids are a great protective options, but straw & rod sets are protective as well.
AquariusDaisy 3 years ago
I give you props for hanging in there. One thing I always tell naturals is to drink a lot of water and watch the diet. This is mad important. Also, find a regimen, keep it simple as possible and maintain, Make sure your head bands and such are the right materials because rubber, wool or even harsh cottons ruin the hair. Hope this helps.
Ameenah79 3 years ago
Aphogee is the bomb! Also try the 2 minute reconstructor, that works wonders for breakage, keep us updated :-D
