WOOHOO 3 years ive played this game, every day i play it, but yesterday i decided to start a new game, and right at the begining of the game i spent from the age of 18 to 19 attacking ships, then a new warship a ship of the line apears :D even though the nation i sailed for was at peace with the nation of the ship of the line, i didnt hesitate i took the bastard!!!! with a sloop, 12 guns and 68 crew, they had 48 guns 264 crew, WOOHOOO the second ever ship of the line i have!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you know that it's possible to keep sailing for eternity?

I mean never divide the plunder or as they would say "make port".

If you manage to provide each crew member with a share of 4000+, they will stay permanently "very happy" even without food. ( I still keep food though because I don't like it when they whine). You'll need a small ship and naval battles will be tough for a while with fewer cannon but it can be done. I'm on 14 years already.

I'm not trolling. You can try it out.

Dancing is actually easy if you have a bit of a feel for music and know that there are just a few number of "figures". First of all, hit the key at the "1" in the step, not quite as she starts pointing, more in tune with the tune. Play on easy level and hit it when the key "flashes" to see what I mean.

And then notice how there are always figures compiled of 4 move (or 8 for the "fast" moves). One would be left-right-left-right. Another ist left/down-left/down-left/down-­left/down.

Usually the first indicator by the gov. daughter already gives away which "figure" is about to follow, i.e. you will certainly get 3 out of 4 (or 7 out of 8) hits right per figure, that's plenty to survive the dances even on swashbuckler level.

@xxXRaymoondoXxx I sadly discovered a trick that makes it easy to win all dances and swordfights: hit pause right when you see the "tell" in your dance partner or enemy and make your move right as you unpause.  Makes the game super ultra easy...

Erh... no. They took the good elements that made the original fun, eliminated the ones nobody wanted (did anyone ever play those "historic" missions?), added a lot more tactical options (missions that give you settlers, settlements that give you new governors, dancing for info) and fleshed it out nicely.

Personally, I think it is a very good adaptation and a lot of studios should get a hint how to "relaunch" an old game. This is how you do it!

If you get bored you should do:

1. complete the story line

2. get married in the game

3. get to maximum wealthy and complete the game 100 %

4. hack your crew with cheat engine so you have 500 000 pirates and try to invade a hostile city ;D ( your crew will dissappear after the invasion at least it did for me )

5. get a new game

I think there should be a 2nd...maybe he could include some super ships with massive storage and gun capabilities, like a true man of war boat that blows the bejesus outa stuff. Plus the ability to buy, sell, property, businesses, etc would be a huge improvement. That way you could play it as a trading game, accumulating wealth, or as a war game, accumulating a giant flotilla that doesnt disspaear every time you decide to land and divide loot. become mayor, build city and defences, hire soldiers

I think they may have left alot of stuff outta the xbox version. I got it to play on my 360, and there's no actual going on land to dig for treasure. Instead, you just decide to set anchor and hope you landed at the right spot.

And there's no real strategy to dueling. They left out the multiple dodge and attack types and left you with a block, thrust, and taunt. The enemy has the three sword strikes, but still not dodge abilities.

@ROARRY01 Getting treasure, more treasure, and more treasure, and keep getting more treasure, either that or often visit ports and let the sad ones leave, I do that a lot. Really you should avoid having more than 150+ sailors it's hard to keep them all happy.

your crew will always get sad at some point. Keep them happy as long as possible by doing what Luminahawke said. After that there is nothing left to do but to return to port and divide the plunder. You will sail out again about 9 months later.

The real trick is to complete all your goals before you retire, which is around age 60 or so (don't remeber precisely). I couldn't complete all of them the first time I played the game. Now I played it 5-6 times, though, so now I can.

The Spanish had already settled in around them and blocked all their efforts. After a while, the Spanish felt sorry for the Portuguese and allowed them to expand to the current-day borders of Brazil, which netted them even more uninhabitable rainforest.

I love this game. I've played it more times then I can count. Nice to see a classic game that was kept pretty similar with a few changes. Ground combat was fixed for the better. Although I'm not a fan of dancing with the daughters in this. Also the original had WAY more jobs that your character might take at the end of the game. This version only has like 9 or 10. Still this game rocks.
