If you like political science, then minor in it, instead of majoring in it. No harm in taking a few poly sci courses, but make sure you get a useful degree in engineering, accounting or business.

You'll soon learn just how full of shit politics really is, that its all utter crap, but at least you'll learn about archiving, public history, preservation and some actual useful skills. Plus you might be able to find a job that doesnt involve french fires
@ttiiyy Haha, you really have some issues with political science. What the f*ck is wrong with you, anyway? Did a political scientist bite you when you were a child?
The society would have more respect for political science as a subject matter if these poli sci majors actually study federal, state, and local laws. Unfortunately, these losers study political theories instead. What they study simply can't be applied in the reality. This is PRECISELY the REASON that some people pursue degrees in PUBLIC POLICY instead. It sounds better on resume.
if you want to get a ph.d in political science then do it. No Ph.D is easy; they are all grueling. But from what I've seen with professors and doctoral students its the kind of thing where its all they can imagine doing.
@Ramsez thats even more worthless than Poly Sci, acutally most B/A laugh and will all tell you, that Philosophy is THE most worthless degree you can get. Your better off with liberal arts
@DaytonaRoadster I knew someone who went to get their PhD in philosophy....not sure why. Its pretty useless, perhaps he wanted to just teach philosophy at college. That is the only thing to do with that degree
I have a B.A. in Political Science. This cartoon forgets several useful things you can do with a Political Science degree. For one example, if I rolled my degree up into a tube, I could stick my dick in it, which might be hilarious at a party.
Hmmm...that was the only thing I can think of to do with this degree. Maybe the cartoon is right. Poli Sci is bullshit. Study engineering or math.
@UMULAStudios if you want to be a politician, Pol Sci is the least useful thing to you. @srugel44 I laughed because it's true. Ugh, I quit physics after 2 years and got a history degree. You know what, 10 years later that doesn't seem like the smart thing to have done. I should have started blowing people at the engineering school until they let me transfer there.
@srugel44 What did you plan on doing with your degree? I have friends who went the activist route and have pretty good jobs with nonprofits. I actually think that in comparison to other lib arts majors, the people I know with pollsci degrees are actually working in decent paying jobs that are related to their major. @HyrbidHermit Decent paying jobs? I'm sure most of these jobs are paid by taxpayers. And don't get me started on the activist route. The COCKROACHES of the society.
The fact that you think political science is about the study of the government makes a big statement about you.
You're either a big liar or completely delusional moron.
How many poli sci classes that you took acutally focus on the study of the government? federal laws? state laws? local laws?
@HyrbidHermit My OWN friend who got a bachelor's degree in poli sci at Cal State Fullerton told me that his degree's useless. This is why he's not pursuing ANOTHER degree in business administration (with accounting concentration). Wake up! Don't expect the rest of the nation's taxpayers to support your poli sci losers forever.
Political "science" has NOTHING to do with studying government. It's all about BORING/RIDICULOUS political THEORIES. BORING! MEANINGLESS!
@DruggedFishStick The hilarious thing about society is no one with a PhD is making as much money as some dumb fuck mumbling monotone over other people's music.
I'm a PhD in political science, and I tell folks how Internet voting can end that partisan gridlock you talked about. It can also neutralize Big Money in all US elections My favorite book is Internet Voting Now!
Why does the "United Negro College Fund" still exist? Why isn't there a "United Caucasian College Fund?" People say that the UNCF is open to all ethnicities but 99% percent of the money goes to historically black schools and the students who attend them so it's basically completely racist. Black people don't have any problem with something being racist as long as it benefits them. Why isn't Al Sharpton raising a fuss about this?
@khashya786786 keep in mind it's just a joke. Don't let it change your major...especially for your undergrad. This refers more to pursuing a Poli Sci PhD...
Actually the only thing I would mind is the not getting a job part, I'm legit interested in using complex math to find out political questions and having people spend 20+ hours proving me wrong.
I don't understand why some people major in political science just to work in politics. It really shows how stupid these people are. LOOK UP politicians' backgrounds. Most of them major in economics, business administration, or legal studies. PS is a useless major, and even these politicians know that. Jeez.
@ttiiyy Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are both political science majors, FYI. I personally know friends working in DC who majored in political science, and they did not have any problems landing a full-time job for local senators. It's not what you major in, it's what you can do with that major, your work ethic, and your ability to raise the ladder by demonstrating yourself to be an important worker.
@BokuShadow Wow, really? These people are your good examples? Landing a full-time job for local senators? LMAO How do these senators pay these people? Where does the money come from? You get my point? These people will never be able to survive in the private sector.
@ttiiyy also i would say working for a federal senator is a major way to create networking opportunities, and it looks good on a resume. corporations are becoming interested in political scientists, according to my friends who have majored in the field.
I'm approaching college, and considering working towards a major in Political Science myself. I hope to actually work in politics though, albeit I'm rather shy (not to say that I'm not overcoming that). I'd much rather do the phone operating and field work that is at the very bottom of a poli career than something like this!
The professor's description of "Political Science" is quite accurate. I had once also foolishly believed it involved the study of politics. You're better off having a background in economics or mathematics to study "political science" at the graduate level. If you're still interested in politics, you may want to look into History or Philosophy departments, but then, you'll end up unemployed and hungry with a humanities degree. Just don't do it!
fuck I want to study Political Science ...but after watching this video apart from the laughter which gave me I feel a little disturbed. I mean I wanted to study in this department for 5 years. Now I have become confused... :/
This is more of a video telling people that Political Science has nothing to do with Politics. That and a little bit about the apparent downfalls of a job in the science industry, which may or may not matter to you.
somebody has got some real issues...why is it that the ones who downplay political science are usually the ones who a) aren't in college and b) aren't earning much with their minimum wage job
@WATITDOO16 Are you sure about this? You really think it's mostly uneducated people downplay political science? Boy, you're delusional, aren't you? Talk to as many employers as you like. Good luck finding one that really gives a shit about PS.
this is funny, but it misses the mark because both characters have the same voice. It would have been much better if the characters had different voices.
@Sincopare Yeah, I majored in poli sci and couldn't stand half the kids in my major. I actually found my classmates from my English minor courses to be more approachable.
That's why political theory is the best subfield. Also, not all departments are so quant, although it is true that most are (and this is common to all social science in the US, sadly). In general, avoid the horrible subfields of American and comparative politics.
being a professor is awesome and if you go to a good school for your phd you will get a good job somewhere. ive worked in politics for years and became a professor afterwards and i would take the independence and satisfaction of intellecually formulating my own hypotheses as a career ANY DAY over having others telling me what to do and dealing with some petty politician's massive unjustified ego.
@nielss4 I could NOT agree more. By the time I figured this out I was already too far into debt to switch course. If I did it all again I would most definitely NOT go to college. I am currently in my 2nd year @ a Pol. Sci. PhD program and needless to say it sucks. haha
Public education is a domestication process funded by the hidden slavemasters who pull the strings of our world. Ofcourse these slavemasters never went to public education themselves. They control our society from outside. From the moment they were born, they were already set for life. It's all about bloodlines for them. I'm talking about the royal aristocratic families, the rothschilds, bilderbergs, rockefellers, bushes, clintons, ... . It's time humanity wakes up.
If people would just open their eyes to the simple truth they will realise that college is nothing more than a business that breeds compartmentalized people in debt, people who all their lives will be kept busy doing useless junk all over again. Their debt and investments will ensure that they will never break free of the system, nor ever question the very essence of this system. It is in essence a new form of slavery. A prison of the mind.
I'm still interested in getting a DPhil in politics, but with a focus on International Relations and the MIddle East. My dissertation will likely require fluency in Arabic, which is in demand. Learn the right skills and play your cards right like any other degree (in addition to loving what you do).
Speaking as a retired Ph.D. Professor Emeritus of Political Science (really!)....this is SO TRUE!! (Although I was lucky enough not to fall into those academic traps)
Obama is just as guilty as bush for letting this thing go on he is just as guilty as bush one and two for starting the new world order that has been attacking other land's without any cause we the people must demand these people be brought to justice all of them conda lisa rice general betrayus and all the other people who lied about the weapons of mass destruction, that they than laughed about owe those bombs over there! 'These brazen killers in my country all need brought to justice now!
its not as bad as they are making it seem. i cant stand jokingly negative things. first of all, if you are an expert in some subfield people will seek out your expertise. secondly, you work your ass off for sure but you are doing something you love (hopefully) and that alone is very satisfying. thirdly, there are positions open all over the country constantly for new professors and if your research is remotely interesting you will secure something somewhere decent.
@jbond5150 dude if you don't like jokes that are negativeor sarcastic, you just narrowed your sense of humor down to about .00007% of all jokes in existence. Of course it's not as bad as it seems. Jus kick your heels back an have a chuckle :)
The guy who makes these videos is so annoying. He couldn't hack it in ANY major in college, and feels so scorned that his own hope of salvaging his self-esteem is to ridiculously bash every field in existence he never made it in. Wow, why have dreams or aspirations at all? In fact, why get a job at all if it's really that bad? Why not just freeload all day and make animated videos?
@xDeathshardx Jesus christ, what is this world coming to? Why are you offended by his expression of his feelings? Are we not human beings? Do you not respect artistic talent?
"You will never find a job. The best you can hope to do is to go from post doc to post doc until a job opens up at Missouri State Bible college where you will teach mentally retarded hicks whose ability to survive to reproductive age gives their church leaders the proof they need that there is no such thing as evolution."
@plutokiss Nah. Many community colleges waste American tax dollars to offer political science classes. All these professors are as liberal as fuck.
I don't understand why the colleges will not offer more meaningful and more use programs such as medical assisting program. Almost every college offers political science classes, but only some offer some allied health programs.
@HyrbidHermit Studying government? I don't know which college you went to. Political science has NOTHING to do with studying the government. It's all about some BORING POLITICAL THEORIES. If you are literate, check out the course descriptions of political science classes at any college. How many of these classes focus on the government?
I would have a lot more respect for political science if the professors actually made the efforts to study laws and public policies.
@HyrbidHermit If you are a public policy major, I might believe that you study the government. But saying that a political science major studies the government? Now that's some classic pathetic BS/politican talk. Anybody can easily go online, go to a college's website and checks out the political science curriculum. How many of these classes require you to study the government? NOT that many (if any of them does in the first place).
@HyrbidHermit I know people who studied in political science. They know jack about the government. How many of you political science majors really understand federal, state, and local laws? Don't tell you that you know the government UNLESS you have a basic understanding of federal, state, and local laws. Stop lying to yourselves that you are as smart as law students. Give me a break.
@HyrbidHermit You already sound like a shameless politician. Many prominent politicians today have degrees in political science. Aren't they doing a great job ruining our country ;) That's the value of political "science" degree.
@ttiiyy because unlike uneducated cuntservatards, most colleges focus on more than just Joe-Jobs. The idea is to give you a well rounded education, so you are capable of critical thinking, and then arent stupid enough to fall for dumb shit like "Iraq has WMDS" "Obama is a Marxist" or "Republicans are racist, we just call black people ex-slaves" Hence why the majority of the educated are liberals, and most blue-collar uneducated fucktads are cuntservatives
Stop at a Masters then get a job teaching at a private High School. It will take less time and prove far less frustrating. On average there are over 100 applicants with Ph.D.s for every faculty position at an accredited college/university.

@AnubisEye009 Well I guess I don't need need to study politics then. Thanks!

I'm still interested in getting a DPhil in politics, but with a focus on International Relations and the MIddle East. My dissertation will likely require fluency in Arabic, which is in demand. Learn the right skills and play your cards right like any other degree (in addition to loving what you do).

It's even worse if you study political theory. Just getting into a graduate program is difficult enough...

its not as bad as they are making it seem. i cant stand jokingly negative things. first of all, if you are an expert in some subfield people will seek out your expertise. secondly, you work your ass off for sure but you are doing something you love (hopefully) and that alone is very satisfying. thirdly, there are positions open all over the country constantly for new professors and if your research is remotely interesting you will secure something somewhere decent.

@Ylviste Thank you. Someone needed to say it.
yurismir1 9 months ago
@plutokiss Nah. Many community colleges waste American tax dollars to offer political science classes. All these professors are as liberal as fuck.
I don't understand why the colleges will not offer more meaningful and more use programs such as medical assisting program. Almost every college offers political science classes, but only some offer some allied health programs.
ttiiyy 6 months ago
@ttiiyy Yes. Every aspect of our lives is affected by government, but studying government is really a worthless pursuit.
HyrbidHermit 4 weeks ago
@HyrbidHermit Studying government? I don't know which college you went to. Political science has NOTHING to do with studying the government. It's all about some BORING POLITICAL THEORIES. If you are literate, check out the course descriptions of political science classes at any college. How many of these classes focus on the government?
I would have a lot more respect for political science if the professors actually made the efforts to study laws and public policies.
ttiiyy 4 weeks ago
@HyrbidHermit If you are a public policy major, I might believe that you study the government. But saying that a political science major studies the government? Now that's some classic pathetic BS/politican talk. Anybody can easily go online, go to a college's website and checks out the political science curriculum. How many of these classes require you to study the government? NOT that many (if any of them does in the first place).
ttiiyy 4 weeks ago
@HyrbidHermit I know people who studied in political science. They know jack about the government. How many of you political science majors really understand federal, state, and local laws? Don't tell you that you know the government UNLESS you have a basic understanding of federal, state, and local laws. Stop lying to yourselves that you are as smart as law students. Give me a break.
ttiiyy 4 weeks ago
@HyrbidHermit You already sound like a shameless politician. Many prominent politicians today have degrees in political science. Aren't they doing a great job ruining our country ;) That's the value of political "science" degree.
ttiiyy 4 weeks ago
