  • Thanks - much appreciated!

  • ...does the paper need to be stretched before use? Apologies for multiple posts, I am sober (honest!!)

  • @craigomalley1 before I start to paint I wet the paper all over. The benefits of this are to get the sky, clouds and distant hills in before it dries to give all soft edges. This also stretches the paper so by the time I'm ready to do the middleground the paper has dried, stretched and all I need do is pull the paper tight and refix to the board.

  • Meant to add

  • Hi, this is a tremendous video. You used blue and yellow or ochre for the sky which didn't end up turning mucky green. What's the trick? Also, does the pAny help appreciated.

  • @craigomalley1 it's Raw Sienna I used in the sky with the Ultramarine. I remember watching a Keith Fenwick video and he said exactly the same thing - you'd expect it to go green but it never does.

  • if there is one thing ive learnt from youtube its.............draw freely and everything falls into place!!!

  • @MrBlazzzzer don't get bogged down keeping everything tight. As you say, draw freely and you'll find it much more enjoyable.

  • @WatercolourWorkshop very rue but i would love to start painting all my work is with graphite and charcoal and havent started anything related to painting......how long would it take for a beginner to make ok works .....like 3 months of hard work?? :D

  • @MrBlazzzzer success comes with practise. I've been painting about 5 years and try to paint one a day to keep improving. The show Simply Painting with Frank Clarke helped me enormously as a beginner. Check him out at simplypainting . com

  • @WatercolourWorkshop i sure will!!! but i guess watercolours are a safe bet to begin with right?? is acrylic painting styles similar to watercolours??

  • @MrBlazzzzer watercolours are the easiest paints to start with. What I like about them is you can make as much mess as you like and they just wash off. Different mediums have their own particular techniques. The best way to find out is to just dive in and give them all a go!

  • Love watching you paint. You make it look so easy and graceful! Hope you create more videos!

  • @rebag64 thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you like the videos.

  • I will never be as good as you even if I spent millions of years of continuous practice!! you're simpy amazing!

  • @icceeQueen thanks for your kind comments. It just boils down to practise. You'll be amazed a what you can achieve if you paint one picture a day. You'll soon be creating wonderful work of your own!

  • @WatercolourWorkshop thank you so much! that was really supportive!!

  • You did an amazing job. However I don't understand y u made that straightine in the bottom of the pic. So that does not seem like a canvas. What type of paper are u painting on. Good job!

  • Thanks xxAisha25xx The straight line is just meant to represent ripples on the water. The paper is approx 130lb. It's not the best, but certainly the cheapest and great for practising on. Thanks for watching. Regards, Steven.

  • Wahoooo! I really love this painting! So deep! So bright! A real style!! I definitly love it!!!

  • Thanks for watching.

  • I am an absolute newbie and your videos have been such an inspiration, they make you think well maybe I can do this, can you tell me the make and type of large brush it is that you use as I really want to learn to paint in the style that you do and it seems 95% of painting is done with the large brush. Thank you for taking the time to let us share your painting pleasure.

    Peter.

  • Thanks for watching Peter. The brush is a large Ron Ranson hake brush. If you search for it on eBay there's generally someone selling them. Best of luck with your painting. Regards, Steven.

  • love that play of the sun coming through the clouds looks great

  • Thanks for watching.

  • Just Splendid, creative....

    Using Credit card... lol

    :)

  • wow~looks like a chinese painting!

  • Thanks for watching.

  • amazing!

  • Cheers.

  • Hi there! i really appreciate your work, your paintings inspired me alot.

But i have one question about this work, could you tell me what that final long white represent? i am a little comfused about that step, i am just a beginner, i believe i could learn lots from here, thank you!:)

  • It's just an impression of ripples on the water, maybe where the wind has caught it. It just breaks the water up a bit and also provides a good contrast against the reflection of the trees. Thanks for watching. Keep practising!

  • Not bad painting. I wonder if you can do a scene outside on the spot. It gives your paintings more accurate sense of light source, realism and looser brushstrokes.

  • I plan on working outside soon. Thanks for watching.

  • nice painting i use oils i only with i could pop out the hair dryer and dry mine

  • I'm about to have a go at oils myself. I'll do a video when I get the hang of it. Thanks for watching.

  • Beautiful.

  • Thanks
