  • in be bops early days my dad played keys for this band, apparently he walked into the recording studios crying my dad said whats wrong and bill said his girlfriend had smashed his gibson sunburst against a wall!

  • Bands & songs like this made the 70's livable.

  • i think my favorite lyrics of all of his songs.

  • The BEST ... ONE OF THE BEST GUITARIST OF ALL TIME ... DOESN'T GET THE CREDIT HE DESERVES ... AS A SONGWRITER ... THERE HAS BEEN NO ONE LIKE HIM! HE WAS SO AHEAD OF HIS TIME ... I THINK HE JUST GOT BORED?

  • @primarymusicusa

Have you heard Frank Marino Live ?

  • What a great song !. Impeccable licks and taste , now, as then....

  • I believe they did 2 other songs on this show. "Forbidden Lovers" and "Bring Back the Spark". I love those songs. Anyone have the tape? Please Post.

Cheers - Still listening to Bill's work. "Romance of Sustain" - a great guitar album.

  • Thanks so much for posting Double2Neck!

The Modern Music album has taken over my life lately, and to see these people just doin it....Well! Brilliant

There must be more archives like this out there eh?

You Dont get bands like this now!

    Not these day

  • Underrated Brilliance!

  • Bill Nelson, thee maestro.

  • Comment removed

  • Really cool. Wish they had some real footage of Swan Song and Between The Worlds and Sound Track.

  • EXCELENTE BE BOP DELUXE

  • Bill Nelson's artistry went far beyond his amazing talent on the guitar. A great poet, a wonderful voice with subtle sensibilities and an entertainer. I agree that his work on the guitar is among music's best. Yet, his creativity is wonderfully expressed in other ways.

  • As John Peel said "The best thing to come out of Yorkshire since Joe Cocker".

Bought Modern Music on vinyl in 1976 and played it to death. Got CD a couple of months ago and it's still in my top 10 albums.

  • @plugp7 Modern Music lp was the first LP I ever bought - seems like yesterday - truly amazing experience even now

  • top top top guitar player. how this guy isnt known the universe over is a complete mystery. check out the first three be bop albums for some truely amazing rock rifffs and melodys. eric clapton my arse !

  • idid

  • That Gibson ES 345 which uses Bill. This guitar was reissued some time ago and isn't in the Gibson list of guitars, but in another webs that models appears without the word "discontinued"......Strange, but i can't find a photo of a current ES 345 with a tremolo. Do you know something?

  • Genius guitarist

  • Greatest guitarist/songwriter the uk has ever produced. Terminal Street is a Be Bop classic performed superbly on the whistle test please BBC release all your footage of Bill and Be Bop on DVD especially the Red Noise OGWT performance

  • I like the guy who play guitar, coool when you find something new, timeless music.WOW MAN!

  • stunning guitarist!/band, way ahead of the 'clapton/page/blackmore/santana?? wtf!' etc mob.

  • I remember when Bill announced, at the break up of Red Noise, that there was nothing original remaining to be played on the guitar. What a loss to the blues! Extraordinary musicianship. He has since producerd some wonderful music but I miss his marvelously inventive bluesman he once was.

  • just discovered this band. as a 'yoof' who likes my modern stuff ill be honest I wasnt blown away by the songwriting, I dont think it was up there with his contemparies eg zep, acdc, but it has to be said his guitar playing was very advanced for the time, unbelievably clean licks hes playing there

  • Better than the studio version featured on the Modern Music CD. Bill and BBC should perfectionate the vid and release it along another OGWT presentations. The another guitarist, apart from Nelson and Tumahai, looks like Charly Garcia, and argentinian rock icon in South America.

  • Hell yes! Boy, what great guitar tone, soul, and feeling. Mr Nelson a very under-rated player. The man is aces here.

  • Bill rules the music! Fuck EMI.

  • This is as good as music gets;

Thanks so much for posting this.

  • Dave Travis (RIP) fave track....saw them a few times with him at Sheffield City Hall....up in the grand circle as 14 year olds did'nt know whether to watch the stage or a bloke to our left who was being "reliefed" by his girlfriend! happy days

  • Great song, great bad, nice guys.

  • Ooops, meant great BAND

  • I just missed seeing them on their last Tour, I was only 14 at the time. Bill is a visionary and has continued to do his thing to this day. Be Bop Deluxe are one of the greatest and most underrated bands ever and Charlie Tumahai is one of the most outstanding bass players ever. Phil.

  • My favorite BE BOP tune, thanks double2neck!

  • charles tumahai on bass ....a fellow new zealander, went on to be in a nz band called the herbs died in 95 of heart attack

  • Wasn't his death a total shock? He practiced yoga and took really good care of himself. I thought he would live to be over 100! Didn't he die during a political protest in NZ?

  • he was a great bass player...when he was in herbs the music was totally different from that in be bop deluxe

  • You got that right - best version of this song I've heard!!!

    MLC

  • OOOOO More more more!!!

  • Bill's ES-345 is one of the best-sounding guitars I've ever heard. Wonderful!

  • Kool...Great band! Thanks for posting...MORE?
