This is extremely helpful. Thanks for posting. I'm curious if you know what causes the auto-return to keep engaging. My record (33rpm) plays for 3 seconds, and then the tonearm is returned. I have a Pioneer PL-S30. Just wanted to share my old Rush records with my son. He has never really seen a record played. My own interest in Steven Wilson's music has me wanting to get this working again. Thanks!
My scale wheel and counter weight are seperete! Big square block on the back and scale wheel at the side where the tone arm pivots up and down. The scale wheel is part of the pivot. If I set the block all the way back even with the scale wheel set at zero it's still up in the air, not floating. Do I udjust the weight block (with the scale wheel set at zero) until the tone arm floats and then udjust the scale wheel?
this won't be the best place to ask this but i'm going to try. I changed the belt of my record player because it sounded like slow.dragging. Now it sounds normal but only 45' speed sounds like slow..the 33 speed sounds ok. and recently the speaker started sounding like it has static or raspy when its playing. anybody be kind and tell me. i'll appreciate the help

You, sir, are awesome. I had watched 3 other videos on how to set this counterweight properly, each more than 7 minutes long, and none of them made sense.
You explained it clearly and concisely in just over a minute. THANKS!
Hey man, thanks for the video. Any specific pointers with how much downforce you want to apply depending on the stylus? I'm using a Thorens TD-160 with a Shure Hi-Track and am noticing a bit of high end distortion and also crosstalk between grooves in between songs. I tried reading up on adjusting depending on the shape of the stylus but it's all greek to me.
@demetrij Use the scale on the counterweight. First make the tonearm float, then set the scale at zero while holding the weight. Then rotate the entire wieght to 1.5. Make sure the anti-skate is also at 1.5
My turntable is a Panasonic 1300..the tone arm swings over to about 3-4 seconds into the groove when I start it automatically ...where and how can I adjust this?
@tfcrew Almost every turntable has what's called an adjustment screw. Usually it's under a rubber plug near the tonearm, but it can be anywhere on that side of the turntable. I can't find a pic of your turntable online to let you know exactly where this screw is located on the Panasonic 1300. If you'd like, send a pic to m_lunt@att.net and I'll help you find it.
Michael...thanks. I am curious about what stereo system You use? Can you share it?
