  • WOOOOO french grip

  • Keep your left pinky on the stick. It'll give you better control.

  • future timpani virtuoso with that french grip lolz

  • The way he holds his sticks isn't incorrect at all. 'French grip' is what it's called and it allows for more articulate playing imo, it isn't resticted for tympani or jazz either.

  • lol haha dude ur fuckin bad ass at french grip? do u play tamphany in school or what? french is with ur thumbs facing up, match grip is palms down, and traditional is the one they use in drumline! :)

  • @killovideo actually french is matched, there are 3 sub categories of matched: german, french, american.

  • never seen someone go so crazy with french great job man!

  • ur good but the way u hold ur sticks is incorrect

  • checkout illdaize

  • Who cares about the pinky, Ian paice has pinky problems but he fucking rips

  • i can tell u play tenors just buy the way u hold your sticks

  • impressive for a frenchy

  • I wish I could play like that :D

  • those are some insane singles you got goin dude. i think you could march piping with that grip actually. although you'll need to learn traditional, but other than that, sounds great.

  • PINKY!

  • weird technique... but your great!

  • you play drumset not snare right? your hands are rolled over like crazy

  • Its called french grip.

  • well kinda..

  • is that a vic firth pad?i have that 1 too

  • youre playing french or german or something but i think youre doing it on purpose so nice job!

  • badass singles

  • that would be sweet man.oh and thanks for the reply, first time any ones replied!so thanks and you really are good.hoping to see your new vid!

  • at :15 is my favorite partman when u used the table to man u shreded

  • thanks dude, this video's pretty old. I should post a new one soon

  • That wasnt the table, he was hitting the corner of the pad with the middle of his stick.

  • nice, just watch that pinky on ur left hand

  • dude that was sick

and dahkillahmac hes not using french grip

that is just normal grip its easier to go quicker and french and traditional are awfull thats why no one uses it any more

  • whats wrong with traditional grip?

  • nothing, basicalyimsam is a noob.

  • Last time I checked, this "normal" grip (or "matched" if thats what you mean) doesn't involve the thumbs (or thumbnails rather) facing up.

  • He's playing French grip

  • I've never even heard of that. o.o That's cool! :D

  • I know. Thats what I said originally.(check out pg. 2 of the comments)

  • Interesting French grip..... why not Traditional or match?

  • I didn't know I was using french grip. I'll research it.

  • You're not being sarcastic are you? Wen I said what I said I wasn't saying what you were doing was bad or anything... I was just wondering why you were using that grip.

  • no, no sarcasm. I just don't know what French grip looks like. I thought I was using matched grip.

  • @Mirber

french grip is when palms face eachother in matched grip. German is when palms face directly down during matched. American is a 45 degree angle

  • @Mirber French grip is thumbs yp, resting on top of the stick

matchstick is thumbs wrapped around almost like holding a baseball bat or something =p

  • @Mirber French is a style of matched grip.

  • @Mirber i just read the few comments, there is a misunderstanding, You are playing matched grip, but matched french, French grip is thumbs up, german, is back of your hands up, and american, is right in the middle, so you are french grip, and matched grip. hope i cleared that up ;) and nice vid, good finger technique

  • that technique is useful for timpani, etc.

    and watch those pinky's, man

  • you fukin rock!

  • yeah i used to have that kind of hand position, but hold it with your palm facing the ground like a V, and you play much better after about a week of getting used to it.

  • If you don't even know the name of the grip your describing (german)then I doubt you should be giving advice on technique...

  • you're holding the sticks the wrong way

your palm should be facing the floor

and you should relax your arms

they look really tense and they were sticking out

you're not a bird haha that's what my teacher always tells me... i used to do that

but yeah... relax and palm down

  • dude... people give you shit for your technique, but you're clearly better than %99 of drummers. i don't really understand their arguments.

  • keep pinky in and palms facing the floor

  • you've got some serious timpani grip but overall, grade A

  • lol, with that grip, you would own on timpani

  • fast...try turning your wrists over a bit. Very nice

  • yea, good chops

  • thanks

  • yup yup i like it. if i had just listened && not watched, i'd like it better. but it's ok. regardless your form [which isn't the WORST i've seen], you DO have some pretty sweet chops. =]

  • He doesn't have poor form. Its called a french grip just because most people use german and traditional, french grip is perfectly acceptable. The only real problem is the pinkys and when hands move in. And please watch some jojo mayer before you dis french grip.

  • I'll bet that you play drumset, correct?

  • ok people, I know my form is bad but I have since improved it. Thanks for the feedback though. (and yes I do play drumset if that wasn't clear)

  • you have nice chops but poor form

  • lmao.thats why hes got the starter pad/.

  • your hands keep getting closer and closer...and when you diddle, your pinkeys stick out lol but for match grip it sounded ok....except for a couple of accidental stick clicks

  • why would one play traditional on a flat drum? I realize its "traditional " to do so and fine.. but match grip would be more proper for modern drum carrying method. Traditional grip is for old march style slung drums on the hip. As to get at the drum head from the angle created by a moving drum riding the hip and thigh. Like a bagpipe and drum corps. not that its proper match grip either.. but for sake of argument.

  • I guess people use it to keep the tradition going. plus it does kinda look cool. but yeah i used matched as i feel i have more control and and has more pros than trad.

  • damn, ur really fast

  • good drumming fast

    good video

    well done

  • thanks!

  • making a "v" doesn't have to do with technique, its only because the size of the pad...

  • god doesn't suck..

  • yeah

    I like that comeback lol

    thats fast drummin man :D

  • not to insult you but i thought when you drum your hands had to make a "V"? just asking not making fun just wandering

  • 90 degree angle bro

  • that was pretty good. and yeah matched grip like you said to that one kid is acceptable, but when you play, your pinkys shouldnt come off the sticks.

  • ok learn how to hold the sticks then we will go from there

  • not everyone has to use traditional grip. matched grip is acceptable

  • bt when that even looks like shit its not acceptable but your probably a set player and most set players have bad technique when it comes to snare

  • Awesome dude. How long have u been playing drums?

  • about 2 years

  • I've been playing drums for about 6 years, but your really good. I'm impressed by your speed. I usually go to the "vic firth" website and practice the rudiments they have. It really helps with stick control, speed, and endurance.
