If anyone really wants to see what it takes to become fluent in a language from a person working and studying within the language field of learning, then I am going to become fluent in Spanish and Italian in 6 months and I am going to share all tips and advice on my blog along the way. Type 'Fluent Italian 6 months' or 'Fluent Spanish 6 months' and click on the link for ‘Fluent in Italian and Spanish in 6 months’.
WEIRD accent Atomicflash? Sure... Have you ever paid attention to the accents of people from Lombardia, Toscana, Lazio, Napoli, ecc ecc.. And I DO NOT MEAN local dialects of course, but ITALIAN. And what about American English and British English? Brazilian Portuguese and Portuguese spoken in Portugal? Spanish spoken in Spain and Spanish spoken in Latin America, French spoken in France and Canada? "Gimme" a break, FCOL !
@NaliniXS You forgot to mention pugliese accent. It's heavily influenced by the local dialect. By the way, i believe you have to study grammar if you don't want to make mistakes in speaking. Italian is really hard to learn because of its grammar complexity, and because of the large number of semantic rules. Example: in english, if you want to say "bicchiere", you say "glass". If you want to say "vetro", you say "glass". Se vuoi dire "glassa", you say "glass". Ok, contestualize, but... you know..
@ciolamorta , Italian isn't hard to learn. Of course in the beginning everyone will be making mistakes which is normal, but it does not have difficult grammar. And even when someone makes mistakes, you usually can understand them anyway. Try Latin, Russian, etc. for comparison. Italian can be only considered "difficult" compared to English, which might just have the easiest grammar rules of all.
@Cruelladaoz No no, it's hard. I can fluently speak 4 languages, and believe me, spanish is so easy... at least for me, considering that spanish is a latin derivated. German has a lot of rules, but it's easier than italian. Anyway... every person has different "easyness" in learning languages. I mean, if you live in a place, you find every language easy to learn. English is a really "stupid" language, not only for the low number of rules.
@NaliniXS I have to add that even italian people can't write a good italian. A lot of people make mistakes because of the "poor quality" of teachers. Believe me.
Anyway, anybody knows that just being a native speaker of ANY language does not mean the he/she is (grammatically) competent and can teach it to non-native! People should watch the Monty Python video on learning Italian here on Youtube! *LOL*
Colourblue 10 _ I teach English at University. My first question when i start my 1st day lesson: DO YOU NEED GRAMMAR to learn a language? Answer: NO ! I can speak Italian quite fluently and had NEVER EVER studied grammar!
What Is The Best Way To Speak Excellent English?
Of course, you know its not "study grammar rules".
No, the correct answer is, "Learn Core English Deeply".
You lived in Italy, well im italian and he speaks a great shit. I suggest (for clever persons around this tube) to begin with grammatical rules which are the main problem for whom approach to the italian language. These senteces are totally useless, so YOU shut up!
but the best way remain buying a grammar book, a dictionary, finding pal-friends to write with, and sink in the media (listening music, reading newpapers and sites, and watching dubbed and subtitled movies)... good luck!
I purchased the Michel Thomas Italian foundation course from The Language Specialist on Amazon for a bargain price and have found Michel Thomas course, so effective and there is nothing out there that could compete with his style of teaching. I have learned so much Italian in 1 week, that i can't wait to practice in Italy.
The best thing about MT audiobooks is the fact you don't need to take notes, no homework. It's so easy it actually unrealistic.

LoreSka: Ma, infatti sono d'accordo: ho scritto "very good but not perfect" proprio perché si sente che è straniero. È vero che è superiore alla media.
