It's interesting that also Stephen King didn't like Kubrick's version of The Shinning. Somehow both movies became 'timeless hits'...
I haven't read any of these versions but I'm not convinced that this last chapter was necessary, in the movie anyway. To me it may have 'watered down' the... whole thing. (I wouldn't say 'message').
From 5:00 on is what we should all come to realize, eventually. Too bad most of the people out there will never wake up from that reality. It's a shame because there are so many of them with the potential to succeed. For those of us who know whats important in life we do our best to hold onto it.
Anthony Burgess has been dead since 1993, so I'm thinking that ship has sailed. As for film makers, they *make* films. Screen WRITERS are the new writers- second only to those noble new literary connoisseurs we call Bloggers and the occassional YouTuber trying to sound witty with comments that don't make any actual sense... and believe it or not there are still plenty of those classic-type writers around, too. That's where all these infantile "book" things keep coming from.
Though it's kind of the expected morally correct way to end the book I still think it makes a great point and I love the scene where Pete and Alex meet again.
The ending does raise several questions though: 1 Will Billy and Dim end up like Alex, reforming?
2 Does Pete's wife know about his violent past?
3 Why did Burgess make George become a policeman with Dim in the play? It would have been hard to incorporate George's death into the play but still, I don't like the way he changed that bit.
Cant you set up a torrent file for the original film so everyone can get it? Post torrent file and link in uploader comments?
