  • I just recently bought a 6 inch barreled Model 28 and now I am looking for a 4 inch one.

  • Just noticed your pile of speed loaders in this video. Full of .357 magnum rounds I assume?

  • @Jrhoney Actually those are .38s for my model 10. The speedloaders for the N-frame .357s are a bit wider for the larger cylinder diameter. I don't have any of those yet. :)

  • @jeffshootsstuff Ah thats right, I forgot about the larger cylinder diameter. Still thats a lot of rounds ready to go!

  • I really want a Model 28 with a 4" barrel but I can't seem to find one :(

  • Yeah, I'm hoping to find a pristine .45 ACP n-frame that they'll fit on. Then I have an excuse to buy another revolver! :D

  • @jeffshootsstuff I have a S&W 1917 for sale if you are still interested.

  • @Jrhoney I wish I could... but as SRV said, "Money's tight, nothin's free..." :D

  • You are probably already aware but just in case you aren't those diamond magna are worth a chunk of change all by themselves. Don't sell them off.

  • Excellent piece! The model 28 is a classic N-frame! =] I'll bet those grips really improved your accuracy with that gun.

  • I have a 28, 4 inch barrel too. I put on some larger grips that came off of some other old s&w. I agree, the grip that came on it is very uncomfortable. Do you get a lot of offers for that 28? I do all the time. The 4 inch (especially) seems to have a lot of demand.

  • @sixstringsixshooter I have gotten a few since putting this up actually. It was my dad's, and will be my son's. Or daughter's. :)

  • @jeffshootsstuff Yep. It's a great shooter. I got it from a close friend that bought it when he was issued one in the police academy in 79. I'll pass it along as well.

  • beautiful revolver. The grips look great on that gun.

  • @charterarmsoffduty Thank you!

  • hard to tell but consider this. I visit all the local gun stores and they had a newer 28 for sale (for in my opinion too much money) but it was in nice condition.

The only thing I didn't like about the gun is that the previous owner painted (badly) the rear blade sight white. Which makes me think it might have been silver at on time.

  • my 28-0 is a 1959 it had silver colored rear blade sights and a faded orange / red painted front sight ramp that I believe is stock I repainted the front ramp and painted the rear blade black. It's much better now to sight in.

  • @georyans Interesting... I wonder if the rear had been swapped out at some point.

  • @georyans What you are describing certaintly doesn't sound factory original. I'm about 99% certain the front site was replaced somewhere along the way if you are refering to the red insert. If it is just painted, then someone painted it, S&W never did that as they made red insert front sights. The rear sights were always fully adjustable target w/o the white outline on all "highway patrolmans". Hope this helped.

  • Is your grove part of your rear sight silver metal or is it black bluing? also is the front sight painted red?

  • @georyans My 28 has stock front and rear sights, and they are simply black/blued metal. The front is serrated but doesn't have the typical S&W red paint/insert. IIRC the higher-end M27 had the standard white outline rear and red insert front but I could be wrong on that.

  • they look like nice grips but they told me they do not make any s&w grips checkered

I was hoping to find a reasonable price on a a grip like yours only with the double diamond checkering

  • @georyans I believe Ajax grips went out of business but their grips are still available at places like Midwayusa... see what you can find in a google search. I know they made that basic style. Hogue also makes something similar if you order it without the finger grooves. Good luck!

  • how did you pick that model grip? On his website they all look nice but I feel like to choose the correct model I would have to see it on the gun Have s&w 586 nickel

  • @georyans My suggestion would be to buy the ones you think would look good and give you the style you want (larger or smaller grip, checkered or not, extend below the gripframe or not, etc.) and try them out. I wanted something similar to the original "target" style grips so I chose the "Retro Target" model. You could probably sell them for pretty much what you paid if you don't like them. Or perhaps Ahrends would swap you if you're not happy with them.

  • @jeffshootsstuff Would you say that the beautiful revolver that you present in this video can be carried concealed in an in-the-waistband holster? It looks like it would be difficult to conceal.

  • @EL3minutero I've never tried it; the cylinder is quite thick. I know that some have done it with success; I imagine skinny dudes with really high quality leather. The N frame isn't really an ideal carry gun, IMO. The S&W J-frame is my kind of carry gun. Drop it in a pocket holster and you're good to go. Or better yet a Ruger LCP. :)

  • @jeffshootsstuff Thank you. I agree with you. I JUST came back from shooting .357 magnum at the range and realistically speaking, I think that caliber is overkill. A j-framed .38 special to carry ( for a conservative lifestyle) is more than enough for personal defense IMHO. It IS fun to shoot .357 though...scares the creme out of people. :)

  • @EL3minutero Oh, don't get me wrong. If I were going up against a bad guy a howitzer wouldn't be too powerful. My point was that the N frame smiths are a bit large in size to pack around. The J frames (they make a .357 version, BTW) are about as big as I personally can carry in a pocket. And since I choose to pocket carry, that's about as good as it gets for me. I'm a creature of comfort and convenience I fear.

  • I've got similar grips for my 28... favorite revolver ever. What a tank!

  • Nice 28, and nice grips! Yes I agree, there is nothing quite like a full size S&W wheelgun. I have a 1958 4 screw 6" with target stocks. It's not the fanciest gun, but it's my favorite gun. Now, gather up your collection of speed loaders, and go blasting!

  • Thanks!
