From the last 4-5 comments, I see that many are mixing-up different concepts.

1- Bisexuality shows fluidity in someone's sexual preferences according to circumstances and people they meet.

2- Love and sex are different. You can have both idealy, but it's common to have them separately, depending on the particularities of a relationship.

3- Humans aren't programmed to have only one sexual partner. To get there, a commitment to exclusivity and a lot of discipline are required.

i think i speak for many when i say that seeing them kiss other people just felt WRONG. i never felt the emotion when they would kiss men. it just seemed like lust. but when xena and gabrielle kissed, you knew it was because they truly loved each other and you could feel it.

Haha, it always startled me to see Xena and Gabrielle flirting with other men and things, even when I was like, 8. I couldn't understand why the would be doing that when it was so clear they were in love with EACH OTHER.

I've been rewatching this series lately, and every time I see one of those scenes where one of them displays romantic interest in someone else, it stings. Their relationships with others just aren't as believable to me as their relationship with each other. But then, the writers spent six years building that.

I think the episode that cinched it for me was "One Against an Army". Half the stuff they said to each other sounded like wedding vows!

for those who don't belive this subtext thing: it's a fact, that Gabrielle went to China, because she was jealous. she did say that on the ep. Forget Me Not. "i was angry because she (Xena) loved someone else" - as i remember...

plus the actors admitted on the xena cons, that the whole show was just about love, the relationship, journey and destiny of Xena and Gabby. and this is simply beautiful and -true-. ^^

Okay to start off with, that is not what we are trying to do. Subtext is about interpretation, not dictating how everyone else should feel about their relationship, no matter how you view it. The point of the SFD's are to have a little fun (because yes that is what we do with characters) and show OUR viewpoint on the matter.

This video in particular actually supports the arguement that they were with and attracted to other people (men and women), but points out that, again from OUR viewpoint, these attractions caused jealousy in the other woman. Nowhere in this video are we painting them as 'plain lesbians', just in love with one another.

The part of the episode "Animal Attraction" where Gabby repeatedly tries to discover if Xena slept with a man, was extremely hilarious (it's from 2:15 to 2:26 in this video). More maintext than subtext, really.

Xena didn't, BTW, it was some kind of magic artificial insemination with Callisto.
