You just side-stepped the issue completely. How does throwing these people in jail fix the problem you've identified? You CAN'T stop people from getting what they want. If they want it bad enough, they'll get it. Do you not understand how legislation works? It doesn't keep people from getting things, it merely punishes those that try, and it's not just a slap on the wrist, but basically death. The question is: do you think that such a punishment is ethically justifiable?

I suggest that if you have a position to defend, you defend it. Claiming that some thing, X, is somehow dangerous, and then suggesting that people who use X go to jail is highly offensive to those people. It's like the oblivious Christian believing you're going to hell because he just doesn't know any better. He'll pray for you, so he thinks he's actually doing you a favor, when in fact all he's doing is insulting you. Same thing.

Obviously you're right. I don't think it's ethically justifiable to punish people for possession of something that grows on land (shrooms, weed, peyote, coca leaf etc) but if you don't know what effects prolonged prohibition may have on the consumer it's pretty hard to legalize everything now, after 70 or so years of illegality. If you do that, suddenly all people will go on a wasted vacation. Coca-Cola wasn't available in Romania during communism and now it's our national drink. T.y. America!

again: some folk shouldn't have access to these substances. they just wouldn't understand what power they came across and misuse it, like we already do. this guy is a perfect example, even though i don't think he's on drugs, he has a huge impact on teens using drugs. we need education on this subject at an earlier age, just like we have sex ed nowadays. they say you have to be smart to act stupid. this doesn't work the other way around, remember?

I don't think this guy influences much of anything, to be honest. And I don't think that if currently illegal drugs were made legal that everyone would suddenly go and binge. Most people I talk to who have never used psychedelics are very fearful of them. I was before I used them, even though I liked pot. People generally want to know what they're doing to themselves before they do it. That's why propaganda works. Make up some lies about a substance and you'll get millions to be terrified of it.

Education is extremely important, and people need to know the truth about substances, which is why the government needs to get out of this business altogether. It really is too important for politicians to have any influence over.
Kids who aren't familiar with drugs are afraid of drugs. Just say 'drugs' and all the elementary school propaganda floods back from memory. Why would anyone WANT to act like the guy in the video? Seems you're assuming that teens are idiots, and that's not the case.

Fine. But who are you to decide who these people are? What if others believe YOU shouldn't have something they perceive to be dangerous? Who makes these decisions and based on what methodology? No one knows the future, and blindly striking out at chemicals and plants for fear of some people misusing them is childish. Either we're all free, or none of us are.
I'm glad you concede that jail time is an extreme punishment for such a socially irrelevant 'crime'.

Education helps. Part of the reasons teens are idiots is because they don't know any better. Prohibition prevents education and promotes misinformation. When kids finally do smoke pot it's no wonder they throw out the baby with the bathwater; "Geez, if they've been lying to me about weed my whole life I wonder what else they're lying about?" It's a good question.
You can be glad of anything you want, but all that does is make you an arrogant asshole. You haven't presented a valid argument.
