  • amazing!

  • Gordan Freeman?

  • sucks ass

  • lame ass video!

  • A great take on an interesting piece. I commend you for sticking to it and not giving up halfway through; this must have felt like an eternity putting this together from start to finish. It's funny how some of the uploads in the middle sound more disturbing than the 1000th upload. A brilliant modern response to Lucier!

  • @MeticulousGuitarist Thanks man! In fact the last upload is the worst sound of all, but I edited it down in this version because it's simply too awful. Check out the final version on my profile page if you want to be terrified.

  • Nice project!! And whats the size of the encoded video 1000? 100kb?

    LOL!

  • sounds like selkath to me

  • this shit sounds scary but this is like taking a picture of your self at 30,then making an copy of that picture, and so and, so forth. lol now i understand why cloning is not so popular

  • Dude around 500 he starts having these mechanical whirring noises show up.

  • He sound like freaking mega tron with a bad cough.

  • Very interesting project...it's funny, because the Lucier version turns into such an ethereal sound and this is like evil robot land. Resonance vs compression. I'm finishing off something in this vein, but it's more on the tv screen/camera lossy side, trying to take Lucier as a starting point and make something abstract from there.

  • @patanagreg It definitely showcases the differences between analog and digital, right? I suspect your tv/camera project will turn out quite beautiful as well, let me know when you get it up here!

  • Not gonna lie... this creeped me out SOOO bad XD

  • All 1000's in a playlist please, haha ;D

  • 500 sounds like the aliens from Space Channel 5!

  • How do we know that the "distorted" version is not simply an hd quality of an alien life form that was distorted and then restored in reverse order?

  • You just turned into an Android after 50 reuploads.

  • My favorite one is, I Am Sitting In A Video Room 207... =D

  • 1:15 --> Kel'Thuzad from World of Warcraft

  • SOUNDS LIKE SATAN!

  • 1-Normal

    5-kinda robotic

    10-demonic

    25-alien

    50-ghost

    75-????

From there on you can barely understand him By 500 he sounds like some water Lol

  • Awesome, you sound like water by 500.

  • In soviet russia if you upload 1000 times a video, the video gets high quality

  • @Coinwalker HAHAHAHAHAHA wow thats the first time ive ever heard some1 use that really old family guy joke on the internet, congratulations you get a gold star

  • @jimmyPain2121 hahaha :D thnks

  • at 75 i hear yoda in you!

  • Man, you should work as a narrator!!! Documentary, movies, games, doesn't matter! Your rhythm and speech would be so fucking perfect for that! :D

    Great video, quite interesting :)

  • Since you most probably converted to a so called "lossy" format (in the worst case even on a Mac using Quicktime!) this shows the degradation from the flv--> mp4 transcoding (whatever codec you used in those containers...), not necessarily from youtube (who usually do a quite good job at transcoding). You could have saved a lot of bandwidth + time if you did this just locally...

  • @Sukrim Oh sure, but what's the fun in that? ;)

  • fuckin badtrip

  • 1:35: Jabba ?

  • @stoogerl : no..the Zerg overmind has just arrived at earth!

  • In the middle part it sounded like Hitler talking to Goebbels on a very bad cellular reception.

  • So instead of inserting these pop-up, useless gray bars, and all the other ridiculous and annoying recent tinkernut crap, why doesn't YT just work instead on stuff like improving the quality of videos?

  • bad quality :D

  • In the end it kinda sounds like a Decepticon from Transformers.

    But a cool experiment.

  • modern art

  • 1000 sounds like water

  • This looks and sounds like a common RealVideo from the 90s ;)

  • so THIS is how they got the zerg noises...

  • Woah, one giant simulacrum!

  • i'm going to have nightmares about this

  • sounds like a puddle of water trying to speak

  • Great video. It's too bad some of the people coming here just simply don't get, or rather can't get, what you are doing. For those who don't understand the whole feel to this, go to Wikipedia and look up "I Am Sitting in a Room".

Canzona is remaking this experiment using modern equipment with the addition of video, and he is using a similar speech made by Alvin Lucier.

  • will there ever be codecs, both video and audio, that can retain the quality better when doing something like this? I think an encoder would need to detect itself in a source stream for accomplishing that. I doubt anyone would come up with a codec that magically removes only the necessary bits to get to a certain bitrate over and over again without touching what the initial encoding process once left untouched. it's more complicated than just a low-pass filtering or chroma subsampling.

  • Stop yelling at me!

  • you're so fuckin hipster

  • you should not use quicktime!

  • ears hurt

  • Enhance.

  • The recordıngs, audıo/vısual, have absolutely nothıng to do wıth the room that canzona ıs sıttıng ın. Thıs ıs a study of dıgıtal reproductıon as an ınternalısed phenomena and the deterıatıon ıs representatıve of the encodıng processes that the fıle ıs repeatedly undergoıng.

The acoustıcs of the room are not affectıng thıs process and thıs ıs not a study that explores the (ın)capacıty of ınput devıces to represent realıty.

Basıcally thıs ıs a crıtıque of a specıfıc encoder. Just an observatıon.

  • @Heyautonomy You're exactly right, the room itself isn't doing the copying (as the Lucier version does), I'm just using his "Room" metaphor for the mp4/flv codec. I was more exploring the so-called "photocopy" effect, the accumulation of the idiosyncrasies of the medium doing the copying... which is the same for Lucier's piece as well, even if that wasn't quite his point.

  • @canzona

    "mp4/flv codec"

Neither mp4 nor flv are codecs. They are containers that can contain different

There is no need to upload it to youtube as you could use ffmpeg directly:

    Video: h264, yuv420p, 640x480 [PAR 1:1 DAR 4:3], 669 kb/s, 59.75 tbr, 1k tbn, 59.83 tbc, profile : Main@L3.0

    Audio: aac, 44100 Hz, stereo, s16, 101 kb/s

Also you have re-encoded it actually 2000 times probably with some sucky encoder from quicktime or something.

  • @chrisxy123 Correct again, it has been transcoded 2K times, and yes I could have just done it in QT itself without the use of YouTube at all... but what's the fun of that? :)

Yes, yes, MP4 and FLV are actually just different sets of "standards" when encoding video. But the point is that they are *different*.

I used TubeSock (for Mac) to rip my mp4s, with "medium quality" encoding each time. It was the fastest with least number of manipulatable options... I was going for pure speed of use.

  • @chrisxy123 DID YOU KNOW THAT IF I DOWNLOAD CHEDDAR ENOUGH TIMES IT TURNS INTO GOUDA?! BUT ACTUALLY ITS JUST A CONTAINER OF GOAT. then a moose enters the room and says he doesnt care :(

  • @canzona @chrisxy123 I understand, I don`t mean to attack your work, ıt ıllustrates a poınt very well. My objectıon ıs to the fact that yours ıs a very blunt poınt wıthout any of the subtletıes that Lucıer`s has and as such I thınk your vıdeo ıs mısleadıng and has as more ın common wıth a delay pedal than ıt does wıth Lucıer`s soundscape work. The use of room "metaphor" only makes sense ın reference2codec as contaıner but we are talkıng about mathematıcal compressıon and not acoustıc varıables.

  • @Heyautonomy Perhaps, but mine took a lot longer to complete! :) In the end I don't really care how much it was "like" Lucier's piece, I was just curious as to what would happen.

  • @Heyautonomy Why do your 'i's have no dots?

  • @2344553 cuz he's a hipstah!!1

  • @Heyautonomy You obviously haven't heard about this experiment that was completed several years ago. Canzona is using a close, albeit his, interpretation of what that one dude said several years ago, doing pretty much the same experiment, except maybe without video, and I don't think it was digital. I need to look this up again, as it's been years since I last thought about it.

  • @Heyautonomy Alvin Lucier. That's who I was thinking of.

  • @Heyautonomy I'm pretty sure i've jerked off tho this on channel 103.

  • @Heyautonomy

yeah man, you totally got the point!!

this vid was all about the room and stuff and the audio and yeah man

  • Sooo coool

Alvin should be proud/angry that he didn't think of this

  • 100 = protoss

  • boy that made me uncomfortable

  • Creepy...

  • whatch this shit on 240p XD dayum!!!

  • At 75 he sounds like an evil alien in a movie :P

  • this would be better if you went through this speech only once but you introduced the next video every few frames or so, like it's slowly degrading throughout the whole thing

  • @ChibiRaikou I actually tried that but by the time in the video I got to the part where I explained what I was actually doing you already couldn't understand me, and the effect would have been missed. This version is a little longer than I would have liked but I hope that it's still worth the watch. Thanks for the suggestion though!

  • but seriously, you should get some hobbies

  • 1000 souds like water

  • 500 souds like some robot codes

  • 50 souds like some alien talking

  • In case no one has referenced the origin of this idea, it is a cool play upon a classic experimental sound recording by Alvin Lucier, originally recorded in 1969. Way to use the tradition to make something new and interesting. His original was called "I am sitting in a room." What is radical about Lucier's original was that he had a terrible speech impediment and it was extremely difficult for him to record the original statement without stuttering. Well done!

  • wow. congrats on being lame. This proves what? that converting a video 1000 times is going to destroy the quality? No shit sherlock....

  • Ugh I'm so stupid I have no clue what any of this is lol

  • This is Absolutely Brilliant. Thanks for your effort. I saw the video #1000 first btw, and immediately descerned the human form and movement. So I actually agree with PixelEater, even if the experiment at 1000 still proves a very interesting point.

  • Awesome

  • FUCK i already watched all 1000 D:

  • Quite Interesting!

  • Wow that is very cool!

  • sounds satanic at around 75

  • Does he think this is cool?

  • what the hell transformers

  • Epic.

  • you know, there are some videos, I wish would get this treatment, it would make them far more worth the time wasted watching them, because a bunch of puppet viewers think its worth 33 thousand views, as for yours, well, I think you sir, have WAAAAY too much time on your hands.

  • this effect would work very well in movies

  • @EllieBlueBerry ikr it's weird and cool

  • Entropy in action. The reason why we age for example. Copies of copies of copies degrade eventually. Cool video man.

  • @CBR11X We don't age because our cells are deviding all the time, we age because we age genetically programmed to.

  • @nafativedec Eventually when the nucleus divides, some DNA strands, which develop errors due to cosmic ray interference etc, make imperfect copies of themselves. With time this error rate increases which manifests itself as aging. In a sense you are right, the Universe programs the error into the cell. The amount of disorder increases over time. Peace.

  • @CBR11X Acutally both of us could be right. There is no right theory about ageing. It may be caused by imperfect copying, wear-and-tear, ageing clock (gene start the ageing process) or because of constant reduction of telomere in chromosomes (the thing that allows cells to devide).

After all, ageing is very important process in life. If there wouldn't be one than there's no need to reproduce so there wouldn't be evolution and humans wouldn't exists.

  • head ache..

  • ...

  • That's really weird... In an awesome way though. :3

  • That is pretty awesome! I think the moral of this experiment is not to steal videos from YouTube and upload them 1000 times.

  • From 200 on, it sounds like really wet, soggy boots. Agreed?

  • Keep going I can still make out your form

    very interesting project btw.

  • this is interesting :)

  • 1,000 sounds like swishing water.

  • At 50 uploads you sound like a hollowfied vizard from bleach

  • sounds like dirrahea at 1000

  • @devinsb2 lmaoooo

  • At 75 times, it sounds like something from transformers or something. Pretty friggin cool x)

  • CREEPY!!!

  • He speaks zerg.

  • Nice! Just like water at the end of the vid!

  • Sounds like alien communication.

  • @minnieowlface HAHAHAHAA funnyyy! HELLO FRIEND

  • AHH!! He's turning reptilian!!! XD XDD >o< lmao

  • 500 sounded awesome

  • Steve Reich did something similar to this with an audio recording about 44 years ago.

  • 10= cold

    25= cancer

    50= aids

    75=zombie

    100=alien

  • U did this a THOUSAND Times...!!! Mann ur Wasted..

  • Haha...a digitalized version of Alvin Lucier's :D

  • 50 sounds diabolic like subliminal messeges

  • very interesting good job

  • 500 sounds like the noices i make in the tub... with my cock :3

  • 500 is almost like a rap

  • that cat thing at the end is awesome

  • @sk8nboomer900

    yes it issss

  • ew at 1000 you sound like a dog drinking water

  • This is a great concept - I have Alvin Lucier's recording on which this was based and I love it.

  • ha, after further investigation online, it is CLEARLY explained that Alvin Lucier was the inspiration... heh... I feel silly. Well good work, I'm off to go creep other pieces by you. Cheers

  • Perhaps if the artist, Patrick, gave that explanation, there would be less mean comments. (Unless the explanation WAS given and I missed it :S ) When the concept originally happened, it was revolutionary...a commentary on the progression of music and technology.

  • Alvin Lucier "I am Sitting In a Room", recorded in 1969. It was done with audio then. Recorded, played back through a speaker, then re-recorded and so on and so on. His words are even similar to those of Lucier. I think it is neat that someone did this with youtube video.

  • fUCK OFFFFFFFF!!!!!

  • Did he really uploaded that video 1000 times smh

  • You should have said, "Do you wanna play a game?" I bet that would freak people out lol

  • @oothomioo

    hell yes lolo

  • thats so cool

  • 1000 destroyed my eardrums. poor me, just when i thought it would be a good idea to put my headphones on max volume.

  • I felt like it was me slipping away.

  • This looks faked :(

  • This is what interd-dimensional beings see us as, no wonder they haven't contacted us yet. They're like WTF IS THAT?

  • ahh a dude! ahhh a kat!!!!! ahh a .....squid?.........ZOMG halo alien speak! ....Zomg is that Halo reach alian voice? XD

  • JUMPING KITTIES!

  • amazing quality! What kind of camera did you use?

  • how did you do that, 1000 times...

  • at 200 it sounds likes someones blowing bubbles :D

  • 100 sounds like scorpian

  • You def just keep applying the pastel video affect and are just swishing water in your mouth different ways

  • @FlyingAero no when you copy a video the pixels and sound come apart from each other look it up.

  • Number 1000 is truly creepy. I can't distinguish what was in the video at all! Number 200 sounds like the monsters from my nightmares! Very creative concept! Keep up the Great Work!

  • at 500, it sounds like some kind of fucking squid monster

  • You know that famous video of big foot with his hand curled up well its curled up this happen it copied over and lost its it amazing job.

  • Now the new project, should be to try and reverse the effect hehe.

  • Sounds like you're drowning...

  • This is why when humans try to make intelligent AI it utterly fails. The devil is in the details!

  • That's awesome, video 1000 reminds me of swooshing water in your mouth for some reason

  • you have quite a lot of free time
