  • If anyone wants to get in Show Business. You have better understand, THIS SONG NAILS OUR BUSINESS..... Every word is true.

If your not willing to suffer to be the best, STAY OUT OF THE BUSINESS.....

  • People need to know anyone can sound nice, it's another thing to sing with such brass and emotions like she can, telling a story with each word!

  • lol glee did not bring me here.... desperate housewives did x)

  • She was married to Ernest Borgnine- for 32 days. Of the marriage he said,"It was the biggest mistake of my life. I thought I marrying Rosemary Clooney." She related her outlook of the marriage by titling a chapter of her book, My Marriage To Ernest Borgnine... a chapter which consisted of exactly one blank page.

  • Thumbs up if you searched for this after seeing "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World".

  • We have to sing this for my school panto!

  • she just makes me so happy.

  • Immediately remind me of Fallout's radio.. good times...

  • Not only Ethel's theme song, but the anthem for all show people.

  • 28 people have bad taste for music.

  • 1. fuck glee

    2. stop telling us who brought you here especially if its a show that butchered it

    3. listen to the song

  • @daniyellowjello (1) stop lecturing people

    (2) stop being pissed off madder than the fires of hell

    (3) YOU shut up and listen to the song

  • @garycalgary how is it that you're making a numbered list. to lecture me..and telling me to stop lecturing you

  • THUMB UP IF YOU SAW LYNETTE FROM DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES SINGING THIS SONG.

  • Let's see Ke$ha take something like this on.

  • This part of the film makes me ball my eyes out each and EVERY time!!! :'-} Happy tears as they are there was sooo much emotion in this 3 minute clip! LoL Im at work now with folks looking into my office like "what in the world is wrong with her!" :D

  • Kip Caffey loves this and anything by Ethel Merman a lot. King among King of show tunes!

  • This song just makes me so excited and in my opinion displays the perfect theme for Broadway

  • Ethel had class and a special voice. I believe everything she is singing.

  • what show is this???

  • @hnbird19 Annie get you Gun

  • i miss when people were properly tranned how to sing. THIS is true singing. god bless broadway

  • @angeleyez101 I hate when people make that generalization, sure most commercial singers nowadays aren't trained but you can bet your butt every performer on Broadway is a trained singer.

  • I'm sorry, I appreciate Ethel Merman and her contributions, but she was not a good singer. She was trained, sure, but not a good singer.

  • The original belter!

  • She was so EPIC!

  • @JaeeeeLeee She's "the undisputed First Lady of the musical comedy stage" and one of the (or The) biggest Broadway star. She sings way better than most pop stars.

  • <3 <3 <3

  • absolutely wonderful!

  • I sung this in my first proper theatre show when I was 11 :D

  • @glamourfields That's what i'm doing!!!!

  • I remember John Lennon singing this in The Magical Mystery Tour.

  • Ethel Merman Clone.

  • Man, i love this video...

  • Somebody has hacked my email. I did not post these last two.

  • ETHEL WILL live FOREVER !! from Pensacola

  • You can tell by this clip that Merman, while great on the stage didn't come across on film. The camera did not like her and her voice didn't sound all that good either. Perhaps live she was great, but she was not cinematic.

  • I used to do live theatre and agree with the lyrics to this famous tune - there were times when I was sick and/or not feeling too energetic but when the show started I would always get my second breath and an inner smile and warmth - the bug never leaves ya!!! Thanks for posting.

  • I love Ethel Merman. :)

  • those were the hollywood days! today? a pity! :D

  • what a voice!

  • we are doing bugsy malone at school and im lena marrelli and i have to sing this

  • @thebeatlesrawesome1 you mean, you "get" to sing this!!!

  • @lansden17 no i HAVE to sing this as im not allowed to sing another song but thankfully i like this song

  • 22 people has no business.

  • Meryl Streep was really good back then, she's not really good in Mamma Mia though.

  • @HLimmen Meryl Streep? O.o

  • I think Everythings comming up Roses is a better number for the Merm bomb

  • I miss the old days of music and entertainment :|

  • my choir is singing this but we sound better and we in 7th grade

  • @SamSam1610 You're kidding right? No one can beat Merman at this song! She's the best brodway belter ever!

  • @SamSam1610 dream on dweeb :D

  • my mom does a ballin' ethel merman impression.

  • I always get tears in my eyes at this scene. It's so touching.

  • My school chours is doing this song :) its stuck in my head now!! GREAT SONG!!!

  • Bravoooo!!

  • Some folks obviously aren't capable of recognising true talent when they see it. She had a wonderful stage presence didn't she ? She's from the days when to be on stage or in movies you had to be able to do almost everything - act, sing, dance - the lot. She had an extremely powerful voice which would carry really well and was able to hold a tune which many can't. As to her looks, well she was no Grace Kelly but I wouldn't call her ugly. Back then she would have been 'actractive' or 'handsome'

  • Thumbs up for Arthur Spooner!

  • What a body. Not much of a face. I'd hit that shit from behind.

  • she sucks. period.

  • Her voice is annoying, please stop.

  • @VanoGamkrelidze Ethel Merman will descend from the heavens and strike you dead on the spot. If you're lucky.

  • @RockBoulevardz Yes, Ethel Merman will totally descend from heavens.

  • @VanoGamkrelidze Then why are you on the page listening. Ok you don;t like it but don't bother those millions that do.

  • @idobelieveinfairies8 It's called expressing opinion.

  • @VanoGamkrelidze nobody cares about your opinion, when ti doesn't concurr with the mass :DDD

  • @shairaptor then again I'm gay and I don't care what other people say too :D

  • @shairaptor THAT'S why my post got three responses, right?

  • There's NO business. PERIOD.

  • Ethel Merman was unique and there are few unique singers, actors, entertainers, etc. As a matter of fact, how do you catch a unique rabbit? Unique up on it moron!

  • Im sorry but her singing was just terrible. In her movies she played a good b***h because of her finger nails on a chalkboard voice though.

  • This is so epic!

  • Could you imagine Ethel Merman singing "Rockaby Baby, or Brahms Lullaby"? Ethel Merman sang so loud she didn't need no stinking michrophone

  • is she dead?

  • Even Pavorotti admired the focus of her voice.

  • @gferrick So did Igor Stravinsky!

  • @gferrick your the sadest human being ever you make me ashamed to be alive :)

  • This lady has an awful voice.

  • god, i wish i was around in her time. she's fabulous.

  • This brings tears to my aging eyes.

  • @OutlawTomFantastic sorry I think you've commented on the wrong video - because this is epic

  • @lottielovelife Do you epic as in ironic? As in so bad it becomes good?

  • @OutlawTomFantastic I'm going to assume you haven't seen the whole film because the level of emotion she shows would be explained and yes Ethel merman is a hero, shes not trained but my god she can belt it out better than Bette, Barbara or anyone else, and she does this amazingly, I suppose if you haven't seen the film it might seem a little OTT but totally recommend the film - Marylin Monroe and Donald O'conner are brilliant in this as well

  • i love her <3 is this from the annie get your gun movie?

  • Ethel originally introduced the song in Irving Berlin's Broadway musical "Annie Get Your Gun" in 1946 [and performed in the film version by Betty Hutton in 1950]. When the time came for Hollywood to produce another of Berlin's "book musicals" (as in "Alexander's Ragtime Band", "Holiday Inn" and "Easter Parade"), the title and key song was chosen from "Annie"- and I believe Irving insisted no one else could sing it in the film BUT Ethel.

  • what happened to the singers dress, it looks like the top was cut! judging by the comments you were famous and dead so RIP

  • fabulous

  • RIP you served us well and we thank you with great memory madame.

  • i remember this as a child in New Zealand..loved it then and still love it..RIP, Ethel..your memory will live forever

  • I am sure that Ethel Merman could have competed with opera singers in the volume

of their voice. Her voice belted out even when she was older.

  • La Merman....can work this and every song she ever sang on Broadway like no nobody"s business.

  • I once read that she sang on the broadway stage without a microphone. Her voice was strong enough to belt it out to the folks in the balcony and back rows.

  • @beentheredonethatb4 That is true, but then again, now adays everyone sings quiter. There were no wireless microphones in the 1930/40s/50s/60/and most of the 70s!>..

  • She's right. If ur a private person then u might NOT want to get into show bidness cause, I'm not kidding folks, u literally have 2 show all ur business. It can be a drag especially when it comes 2 ur dirty laundry. LOL

  • awesuum :) wat did 'tim' do ?? y's evryone cryin over him ?? xx

  • @LeosStarz tim was drunk and then went off

  • @ladyhotpink9100 She died in 1984

  • wait, wait, WHOA. ITS COSMO BROWN!!!!

  • Ethel's song was in my head since watching 'all that jazz' on the FMC last night. Thanks for the fix...thanks.

  • that guy at 0:58 is so... so... sepia...

  • so wonderful! these movies will never be again. sad! i cherish all these memories!

  • her voice now silent will live on forever!

  • I think it was recorded first in Annie Get Your Gun, not sure which came first

  • @colleenau82 Annie Get your Gun came first!

  • thumbs up if funnyguyfromtv sent you here!

  • @96Beatle Uh, yeah. Fuck whoever the fuck that is. I came here because Ethel Merman deserves the largest audience possible. Fuck off.

  • @Tsakurokur wow! your mouth needs a good bar of soap!

  • @Tsakurokur .....no need for profanity...

  • what im doing for house music!

  • Ethel rocks!

  • What a voice...one of the last true 'belters' no one will ever replace you!!

  • what movie is this clip from?

  • what a singer she was! People say I sing like her sometimes!!!

  • @ruthhysings How wonderfully pompous of you to note that observation here. Congratulations.

  • I swear i heard this on fall out 3...probs not.

  • MSI :D

  • I love this movie

  • When was this?

  • luv her

  • By GOD, I love this woman!

  • well. i'm supposed 2 sing like her in annie for the star-to-be role.....i don't think it's gonna happen

  • @ladyhotpink9100 - Miss Merman was born in Astoria, Queens in 1908 and passed away in Manhattan in 1984 at the age of 76.

  • @worldgonemad321 She had talent a distink voice and was very nice looking I loved her acting in it a mad mad mad mad world and belive that she deserves the highest award

  • which film is this? x

  • @fionaallan Believe it or not this movie was called:

'There's No Business Like Show Business'

It also featured Marilyn Monroe, Dan Dailey, Donald O'Connor, Mitzi Gaynor and Johnnie Ray (as a priest!). Incidentally, Ethel Merman passed away in 1984.

I love those early Fox Cinemascope films. I'm old enough to have seen them all when first released (this one in 1954).

In cinemas affluent enough to afford 4-track stereophonic sound, Alfred Newman's orchestrations were totally electrifying.

  • Theme song of the 1954 with the same title. Such a treasure!

  • Merman's dress is an act unto itself.

  • Merman's dress in "There's No Biz" is an act unto itself.

  • I've never seen this movie, is Donalds character coming back from the service, or going into the service?

  • @lilhein15 Have you seen the movie since you put your comment here? If not... as I can see, nobody troubled to answer your question. So, Ethel (Donald's film mum) says 'half the world was fighting already, the other half was rehearsing to get into it', this 'other half' being Americans, so, I guess, he was going into the service.

  • i sang this song in ravinia(wit class of course)

  • She was a great musical star, perhaps the greatest, but the role I remember her in best was her hysterically funny performance in "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World!" What a classic!

  • These are the true singers! This is what music is!

  • her voice is so funny.

  • I was watching Whose Line and saw Wayne perform Ethel Merman classic "Blofeld on my mind" lol!!

  • holding a note like that is so cool - love this film

  • I still cry when I watch this scene..

  • Rofl! I always mix up Ethel Merman and Ethel Mertz! XD

  • One of my all time movie greats!Ethel mermen,Mitzi Gaynor and Marilyn ,Who is sadly missing from this clip!Great stuff!

  • Awesome! Great voice. =]

  • ooohh wonderful!!!!!]

noo business like u tube viddys lolxxbabs

  • MSI's ending song!

  • my gosh, this is old

  • she has a very distinctive voice and shes a great belter when it comes to singing. Broadway was privilaged to have such a wonderful singer and it knows it.

  • @Toastwithmarmelade she's just the actress, she didn't get to choose the outift! and the singing is broadway singing. maybe it doesn't fit with hollywood criteria

Merman will remain as the queen of Broadway

  • Cause she's better than you.

  • Comment removed

  • she is soo right :D

  • she never actually sings this song in the musical, its sung by frank butler, his manager, and bill cody.

  • Enjoy World and then say goodbye! You won't see the likes of Ethel Merman again in this lifetime! This was her signature song. Ethel, we have been blessed with your "Larger than Life presence on the stage. As was said of her once,"The difference between Ethel Merman on the stage and Ethel Merman off the stage, is the stage"!

  • @mistersister44 Well then I'm proud to say that I graduated from the same High School as this wonderful artist.

  • Happy Birthday Ethel!!

  • This song from a great film.. Ethel had terrific co-stars. Even Marilyn .

  • She knows what she is singing

  • She owns this song.

  • Yaa knoww this songg tells you somethingg. There was this one guy who got turned downn by the ppl but kept goinn for it. if he wudd of just gave up.. we wudntt have elvis(:

  • Hey, it's Mrs Marcus from Mad Mad World!

  • I just like the song. I'm a big fan of show tunes, regardless of who sings it.

  • I like Merman's version of Heat Wave much better than MM!

  • annie get your gun version is way better

  • She didn't do Annie Get Your Gun but at least she got a chance to do Show Buisness here.

  • HELP! My You-Tube isn't playing today!

  • I'm helping plan a banquet with the theme of "Hollywood", and this song is DEFINITELY a must! Absolutely stunning! :D

  • Another must-include for your party is "Hooray for Hollywood!"

  • What movie is this clip from?

  • The 1954 Hollywood film "There's No Business Like Show Business" (that also had Marilyn Monroe sing and dance "Heat Wave"). Too, Ethel Merman first sang this song in the first, 1946 production of the Broadway musical "Annie Get Your Gun."

  • There's No Business Like Show Business

  • Didn't she voice Mombi in Journey Back to Oz?

  • Yes she did.

  • Classy and stunning.

  • The one, the only! :)

  • such a good scene, from a classic movie.

  • I love Merm's hair colour with that dress...this dress is awesome!

  • i might sing this for my audition for my schools production of the wiz. in the fox theater!
