Reminds me of a relationship in college...she was the type to lead you on but it was just physical....seemed real and deep but is wasn't. David captures the feel of that very well from one side of the relationship...
This song saved my life once upon a long time ago. I had not realized how I'd hurt myself by all that playin' around... This song explains just what exactly it was that was hurt by that. It was my heart.
I lauded his skills on a web site I frequent ..squish words together.. love fraud dot com .. I did not mention this song, but mentioned his tunes, Distant Water and Language of The Heart up there. I could not find an immediate link up here toDistant Water. I think it should be up here, too.
I saw him (I swear!) in 1998 at a Whole Foods store opening. Playing in a grocery store. He was outstanding (If you've never been in a perfectly quiet grocery store, it's pretty cool).
the man I met at a house concert in the year 2000 I believe it was. It was worth the flying over the ocean for that. He definitively has the interaction with the public that I like although you might not see that in this video. His music has had quite an influence in my life.
WTF??? This wasn't the David Wilcox I was searching for!! Not bad though,I guess. Once you've heard john denver though you've heard 'em all!!! This guy doesnt look like he drinks half enough to be the Wilcox I was looking for. Nor is there any interaction from the audience, unless they have no soul.So I guess I'd rather the other David Wilcox, he makes you feel better and gets ya movin!! Thanks for comin' out!!!
@seaneparker Sorry dude!! Your statement makes absolutely no sense in any context whatsoever in regard to my statement. None whatsoever. But you seem to know a lot more about our wilcox than we know about yours. And you spelled canadian correctly. Congratulations on not being your typical american. You actually know about something (no matter how miniscule) that isn`t american. That`s impressive my friend, but you`d do better to learn english context. THEN impress us with your knowledge!!! LOL
Love "The Very Best Of....." CD. It truly is the best, but this particular song I can't hear enough. Gets to me every time. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing talent with us.....Carol
Why, indeed. He's been delighting audiences for a long time now. Over the years I've had the pleasure to see him perform on a number of occasions, and David never disappoints. When I was in my early 30s, married with kids, I would joke at the end of his performance, "okay, now I am going to go home and cry into my pillow all night". That's the effect that musicians who pour out their hearts all evening have on us women. His music has so frequently been the soundtrack to my life.
David is the purest form of artist. The only objective of an artist is to make you feel the emotion that he/she wants you to feel. David takes that to the next level and makes you feel that the emotions are yours.
Just saw him in Pittsburgh Friday night. Wow, does he ever make great music. Been a fan for long time. Nice to be near a regular venue he frequents.
He played the whole show effortlessly with one guitar and two kapos. Unless you played guitars, you'd think his music was the easiest stuff ever, it just comes from him so easily.
This is one of my all-time favorite love songs. Oh how many times have I listened to this. I was lucky enough to see him live in Fort Worth at the old Caravan of Dreams. He is awesome.
We just saw him last night in Carrboro, NC and he did this song and some other older ones. GREAT time! Thanks, Dave. thanks...
Oh, also, his son, Nathan, who's about 19 now, got up and "performed" an interpretive dance for "Rusty Old American Dream". I hope someone videos that and it shows up here soon. FANTASTIC!
I first saw David at a free performance on Snowmass Mountain, Colorado, summer of maybe 1994. Truly one of the finest singer songwriters anywhere. I see him every chance I get and have all of his CD's. My only question is. . . If his audience loves him so much WHY do they talk through his performances, especially his ballads that reach out and pull so hard on your heart strings? Give the man the respect he is due. Go to his concerts, buy his CD's. You'll love him forever!
My parents have the album and used to (well, still do) play it all the time in the car, so my earliest memories are of this song. Still as awesome as ever.
I think it was 90 maybe 91. To my knowledge his first mainstream exposure.
Saw him live in 93, at the Strand in CA, Went over a "Staff Only" tape, walked up some stairs, knocked on the door and Mr. Wlicox himself opened the door. He was busy, but very polite, and spoke for a minute or two about his gear, he was playing the Olsen then. It dawned on me that I may be bothering him, :-) so I excused myself. He stayed after the show for photo's and auto's. He's a national treasure.

@seaneparker This dude`s not bad, though. Was that Humphrey Bogart introducing this guy? He looked like someone out of a dick tracy film.
