Flying into Wellywood is indeed heart-stopping. I've had one flight that attempted to touch down twice and was blown sideways both times before we headed to Auckland to land instead. However, this video clip if a fake - much of the footage is not from Wellington

I agree with all the comments re the the fact that most of these clips are NOT Welly-however every time I've flown into Wellington we've skewed/slewed into the landing strip so hence I avoid it at all costs. Always safe - just never unalarming. Perhaps Wgtn Airport needs to be up there with white water rafting and bunjy jumping? Extreme sport intl airport???

QANTAS checked their 747SP's into NZWN , they can use the strip, but from my understanding, in emergency only. Dunno what music gay people listen to, as I have no expertise in this area ( unlike one commentator ).

Now you know why ANA came to NZ to get Instructor Pilots back in the early 70's. NZWN runs a Cat 1 ILS. Risk is something comm pilots prefer to avoid. They have never had an xwind prang ( but a few bloody close calls ).

Amazing!! I have seen such landings when there was a viewing embankment at the southern (Cook Strait) end in the eighties. The captain always seems to be able to straighten out the craft and deccelerate right on the centre line! lol.
