  • lupida clearly is not from new york..

  • I feel ashamed to say that my accent comes from Nottingham after hearing it on this.

  • Jenny's from Nottingham but whoever wrote that clearly isn't no one speaks that strongly, so you have that one wrong.

  • Kevin: Scotish? Anna: British. Lupita: NYC? Jenny: Irish. Matt: Australian.

  • @jackzabbaththeband There is no single British accent, you mean ENGLISH!

  • I think Matt was fixin' to give it away " In case you haven't guessed where I'm from.... " he was about to blurt out Oz and then I guess he realized he's supposed to give another hint, ahahaha. Anna sounds a bit English but sounds more Australian.

  • damn how would jenny teach english lol i didnt understand a thing she said lamo people would surely think that she is speaking different language. peace

  • im suprised Jenny didnt say" ill meet ya at the lions" lol.thats where everyone tends to meet up in Nottingham for those who didnt know.

  • @horsegal433

    I agree :|

  • i sound like jenny;);)

  • Jenny's accent sounds a bit Derbyshire-ish but obviously she's from Notts.

  • I'm from Notts and I don't even notice we have an accent until southerners point it out. I think we sound a bit like Mancs as well sometimes with a hint of Yorkshire.

  • I'm from Australia, and that has got to be the worst australian accent I have ever heard.

  • The second person the lady was Welsh.

  • Jenny is from North Nottingham, Bullwel probably

  • Haha the Nottingham one. (': I'm from Kirkby in Ashfield near there, we do sound just like that. (':

  • Kevin - Scottland, Anna - Central England, Lupita - US but either not native or messed up from living abroad, Jenny - Liverpool, Matt - Australia

  • Anna's from south, round Portsmouth i'd say

  • Kevin-Scotland

    Anna-England

    Lupita-Northern America??

    Jenny-Ireland

    Matt-Australia

  • @CaletheMrActor jennys nottingham lol

  • There's know such animal as Haggis, it's Sheep's stomach.

  • I'm from Nottingham and to be honest hardly anybody speaks as strongly as that theres a few depends on your area but it isnt as common as it would have been for the older generation

  • I know Jenny is from Nottinham because of the Robin Hood thing, but her accent it's pretty like the accent of the Manchester people!

  • Ay up Jenneh! Ah's yer mam? She's from Nottingham of course!

  • I'm from Nottingham and i don't sound like Jenny at all..

  • This certainly was fun, a good exercise for non-native speakers, as well as native speakers who are interested in dialects. It was rather wicked of Jenny to slip in the word "ain't," though. Trying to teach your students bad habits, Ms. J.?

  • 1-scottish,2-english,3-nyc-ish lol,4-english,5-australian >>>>

  • I actually thought Lupita's accent sounded English.

  • Jenny is from Nottingham, any obbos ??

Matt has a very well educated Aussie accent

    Anna is middle class English

    Liverpool my left foot!

  • okay, Ill play !

I think that first guy is from Ohio. Probably Cleveland area. The second teacher is from Boston. Lupita is from Brooklyn. Jenny is from Kentucky. The last guy is from New Zealand! Yay. I got it all right.

  • I'm from Nottinghamshire and I don't sound anything like Jenny. Am I a failure?

  • Scotland, London, NYC, Liverpool,Australia

  • Aright Ducks I think you'll find Jenny Is a Notts gal. I can tell me own accent anywhere, "Daan taarn" (Down town) ... who ever said Liverpool has never heard a scouse ... veeery different. this is facinating to me as I have a great interest in dialect and accents so thanks for the vid

  • i love how he says 'we love to BURN food ona barby" burn food just thought is was funny no paticualr reason

  • first guy is deff scottish i would prob say cthe famous glasgow accent?

  • I wouldn't usually comment, but, unfortunately I have to say these accents are not very good at all. The only way people could guess where some of them are from (e.g. the New York/Aussie accents) are by what the people are talking about. Sorry guys, no offense, just felt you didn't really do them justice..

  • The only one I believed was the woman with the Liverpool accent. The rest were all over the place, particularly the Australian accent.

  • @towrong1 There was no Liverpool accent in there you twonk! You'd offend us here in Notts if you told us we sound like scousers. Now gerraata me 'ouse n bugger off.

  • Jenny is definately from nottingham cos she said Aup Duck :)

  • Great idea, but audio is not good..

  • Jenny is from Nottingham...the famous bandit is Robin Hood.

  • Kevin is Scotish

  • kevin: scotland,

    anna: ireland,

    lupita: new york,

    jenny: liverpool,

    matt: australia.

  • jennys obviously from nottingham.

dead famous bandit = robin hood

  • matt australia!

  • 1) Scotland (Haggis, kilts)

    2) Somewhere in England. (Home counties?)

    3) New York, USA (Big "Apple." She doesn't have much of an accent. A hint of Puerto Rican (Spanish), maybe? "Lupita" is hispanic)

    4) Nottingham (The bandit is Robin Hood obviously. Anybody who thinks she a scouser really needs to listen to the Liverpool accent a few times. It's unique and very different from this)

    5) Australia (The whole "shrimp on the barbie, mate" thing)

  • 0:22 Scotland

    0:39 London

    1:14 New York

    1:55 Liverpool

    2:25 Australia

  • Kevin - Glasgow? Dunno, Scottish anyway

Anna - Is from southern England no doubt

Lupita - Big apple? She doesn't sound like a typical New Yorker

Jenny - 100% Sure, Nottingham coz that's where I come from and the bandit is Robin Hood

    Matt - Aussie

  • anna is def not londoner

    shes def australian

  • jenny's from nottingham

  • oh my, the scouser was terrible D:

  • That's because it's Nottingham, me duck.

  • 1. Scotland

    2. Australia

    3. New York

    4. Liverpool

    5. Ireland

  • i think you have 2 and 5 mixed up.

  • Kevin's Scottish. (you know, some of the hints are totally unnecessary) Anna is londoner. Jenny's liverpool. I think matt's australian.

  • Jenny is from Manchester

  • for a second i thought the first guy was south african

  • lupita's from New York.

  • anna's from amsterdam, maybe.

  • the guys from scotland. He said they wear skirts.

  • jenny is obviously from nottingham - the clue was robin hood

  • jenny is nottingham/derby!

  • Kevin - Scotland

    Anna - Yorkshire

    Lupita - Eastern Europe

    Jenny - Derbyshire or Lancashire

    Matt - Australia :)

  • lupita's obviously from New York..lol The "Apple." haha

  • @xxlilyxbethxx lol i know but she didnt sound American :/

  • Matt sounds English.

  • @TheNamelessComposer He's aussie

  • Jennys from nottingham not an obvious accent but an accent nonetheless

  • At first, Kevin sounded Indian...but then I heard the Scottish.

  • Kevin: Scotland

    Anna: South England somewhere

    Lupita: New York

Jenny: Sheffield, Yorkshire, North England (Where Im from)

    Matt: Australia

  • i thought jenny was more manchester

  • Comment removed

  • Jenny- "me duck" > from Nottingham!

  • LAST ONE IS AUSTRALIAA :D

  • Kevin in Scottish.

Anna is British but from where I don't know

    Lupita is from the US

Jenny is from the East End of London ?

    Matt is an Aussie

  • :o Omgg!!

    My name's Anna - and I'm British. ^^

  • jenny -east end of london? what? how is that remotely like a london accent?

  • @samjames2007 T'ra is a slang word for Bye, or see you later in English. Right?

  • Jenny is from Liverpool because the 'dead famous band' she mentioned are the Beatles

  • That would be "dead famous bandit" -- not band. Try again!

  • ohhhh i heard band as well, i'm from notts and i couldn't think of any famous bands from there!

  • @dlind36 robin hood - nottingham

  • bandit-robin hood-nottingham :)

  • @whoissara she is clearly from Notts/Derby. Its so obvious by the 'ey up mi duck', 'tarrah', and the way she misses the H off words like 'int' instead of 'hint' and also the 'taarn' instead of 'town'

The bandit will be Robin Hood

  • @whoissara She's from Sheffield

  • @whoissara She's from Nottingham,just like me!!

  • lupita didn't sound anything like NY

  • I THINK ANNA IS WELSH!!

  • omg i just said this to myself and realised ido lol was about to have a bath before going to town, but realised my shirt was dirty, so I went out to buy a new one i pronounced it I wor joost abaaht ter tek a baff after wok before gooin dahn tahn, but it wor dotteh, so I went aht ter gerra newun. Its saahnd as a paahnd!

  • i didnt realise people from nottingham had accents!

Im always like damm he rest of the country with these intresting accents ie liverpooll/newcastle etc but come to think of it i realise we do lol

    ay up me duck!

  • Kevin - scotland

Anna - Outside of London; surrey?

    Lupita - new york, usa

    Jenny - north england

    Matt - australlia

    did i get any right?

  • ha jenny's deffo from nottingham, east mids

  • Is Matt the bandit that Jenny was on about? ;-)

  • where's Anna from?

  • ireland

  • I only knew Lupita was from NY because she said her city's AKA is something with "Apple". Otherwise, I wouldn't have guessed that.

Also, the other two women, Anna and Jenny, I just picked British for them. To me, they were really the same but one was just harder to understand (Jenny).

The guys were really easy. Scottish and Australian, respectively.

  • Lupita doesn't have a ny accent. I should know. I'm from the city.

  • If you're from NYC then you must know that there isn't just one authentic NYC accent.

  • That was fun but a little too easy! I'd love to hear a more challenging one.

  • Jenny Is From Nottingham!

  • You have got to be kidding me. I've lived in NY for over 17 years, and NEVER have I heard someone speak like Lupita.... nor, for that matter, have I known a single person that plays 'handball'

  • If anything characterizes NYC, it is the variety of accents you can find there. As for handball players, almost all the kids I knew growing up in the 70s and 80s played. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you're probably a bit younger.

  • Lupita sounds like a NY'er whose 2nd language is Spanish.

  • @kramerc2 handball is damn old school hell"s kitchen

  • Kevin - Scotland

    Anna - London

    Lupita - New York

    Jenny - Manchasta

    Matt - Australia

plz tell me if i am right or weong cuz i love guessing accents! i know the new york one is right cus i have one! haha

  • jenny is from nottingham

  • Jenny is from Nottingham, not Manchester.

I live in Manchester myself but my whole family is from Nottingham. You can tell because she says "ay up me duck", a common phrase used by my great grandad! x

  • Jenny is from Nottingham, being from there myself, it really stands out!

  • Tbhhh If your really bought up in a nottingham family u will speak like that. and tbh why do people say jenny gives nottingham a bad name because she doesn't pronounce her words correctly doesn't mean shes making nottingham luk bad

  • Bandit...

  • Who's the "dead famous band" from Nottingham? There aren't any!

  • Bandit. Robin Hood...

  • Iron Maiden were sorta based from Nottingham

  • Bandit (Robin Hood) Not band.

Maybe because shes from my neck of the woods that I understand her, Dear god save me, the shame of it.

  • she said bandit not band! definitely Nottingham

  • Kevin's from Glasgow. And well done, love, for keeping the Scottish stereotype going.

  • matt you look like matt mcouganey??

  • Kevin - Scotland

    Anna - London

    Lupita - New York

Jenny - West-south area, England, may be.

    Matt - Definitely Australian

Could someone write the answers too. I would be highly grateful.

I'm Swedish and I haven't such a strong idea which accents there are in the video, and this is a part of my home made English education...Would be nice to have the answers confirmed, whether it's right/wrong...

  • Well, if I posted the answers for all to see that would ruin all the fun!

Let's just say you're not too far off the mark.

Hint: listen carefully to Jenny's hint about the famous "bandit"

  • Yes, very true! Didn't think about that...

But, I don't know really, could you post the answer, if you have the time, by mail here on Youtube? It would be so kind of you. I really appreciate these accent videos of yours, great work!

  • I think that Jenny could be from "Manchasta". Couldn´t she??

  • Repping Nottingham some people pronounce it as Nottitum

  • they all sounded sooooooo fake, no way theyre native...

  • Jennys deffinately from notts! the bandit she's talkin about it robin hood

  • jenny is defo from nottingham, ma duck :) tara :)

  • scotland

    england (southern)

    new york

    england (northern)

    australia

  • kevin french

  • Scottland

    England

    new york

    England

    Australia

  • kevin ire-ish

    anna english

    lupita american

    jenny english

    matt aussie

  • They all have the same hint of a non-English accent (Dutch or Spanish perhaps??) the Nottingham/Birmingham one in the middle sounds convincing to my ears, though.

  • First Guesses

    Kevin: Scotland

    Anna:

    Lupita: New York

    Jenny:

    Matt: Australia

  • LMAO BILLABONG SPRINGS

  • HOW DO U KNOW?

  • Kev: Glen Arishaig

    Anna: Bermondsey

    Lupita: Queens

    Jenny: Sherwood Forest

    Matt: Billabong Springs

  • Jenny is from York...the bandit she is talking about is Dick Turpin

  • im from nottingham and apparently talk with a posh accent. i dont talk like that woman! lol <sounds chavy

  • Well, to be honest I asked her to put it on a bit ;)

  • I too come from Nottingham. I may say ey up me duck in jest but you wont ever catch me saying ta-ra. Thats yorkshire accent any way. Yes Jenny in the vid gives Nottinghamshire a bad name. We are not all chavs honest!

  • Scotland

    Ireland

    New York

    London

    Ireland

  • zoop zoop nottz in da building

  • PMSL @ Nottingham accent even though it has twang of Mockney/Lestoh at the end. (Yep, it's infiltrating sNottingham too)

  • that's not bad! I asked her to lay it on a little extra thick.

  • yeah you could tell Jenny was putting it on but atleast she gave it a go, she did quite well. Others were pronouncing consonants where they wouldn't normally bother in an attempt to sound less common. I'm from Nottinghamshire and I am pretty certain that the majority words spoken here resemble 'Jenny' more than the Queen!

  • 1- highlands

    2- english countryside somewhere

    3- new york

4- nottingham (but sounds a bit contrived to me)

    5- australia

  • Kevin's not just from Scotland, he's a Highlander (might even be from the Isles), although I couldn't say which part.

  • Kevin - Scotland

Anna - London sounds like shes from the Bloomsbury District (west)

Lupita - New York (puerto rican)

Jenny - Nottingham-Most Definitely. only her accent sounds almost as those Typical of Northampton or Coventry even.

    Matt - Australia

  • Why does Jenny's accent seem a bit put on?

  • Jenny speaks more or less how I do (because I'm from Nottingham meself), but Ey Up Mi Duck is really a Derbyshire saying, that got taken over to Nottingham with the movement of people.

Am gooin aatside fora cupa tea with me motha naa, so bugga of wiya mates n stop tekin the mick outa me.

That's a really bad example of how I'd talk colloquially, I have to suppress my accent a bit when I speak on the phone at work unfortunately.

  • @Georgiahulse, bollox 'me duck' evolved in Leicester, its a well known fact amongst people in the know, ye get meh??

  • kevin - scot

    anna - ???

    lupita - nyc

    jenny - yorkshire

    matt - oz

  • yorkshire lol u need 2get out mre

  • Kevin - Scotland

    Anna - London

    Lupita - New York

    Jenny - Nottingham

    Matt - Australia

  • Kevin--Scotland

    Anna--USA(via UK)

    Lupita--NYC

    Jenny--London

    Matt--Australia

    dlind36--67th and Ridge

  • Impressive. Jenny's from Nottingham and Anna is from Luton (near London, so we'll give you that one), but otherwise you're spot on. I'm particularly impressed with your knowledge of Bay Ridge and its former residents. But pray tell, my mysterious new friend, who might you be?
