Actually, even by todays standards this game is pretty hard and intense, the multi-player was one of the best, and in my opinion still cant really compare to some games today. Just because the graphics arent up to par doesnt mean its not as good or better.

its kinnda serious sam type of game then. Little innovation, just walk and shoot, so it can't compare to new games. And todays games are even more intense (play on hard diff). IO know cause I've played it in 98, same as quake 2. My 2 fave games (but just cause they were so good AT THAT TIME). :)

I really have to disagree with you one that one, its not necessarily the innovations that make a game good, I played it when it was new and I play it off and through the years, the gameplay is still outstanding, it has hardcore gameplay, trying to beat this game on nightmare is one of the most difficult things Ive every had to do in a game, and you can customize this shit out of this game with mods. Still way up there on the good game list in my book. Why better then fucking MW2 Im sure of that.

@roxasfruit lol who helped invent DOOM? Wolfenstein 3D, released by ID Software 1 year before DOOM. I think people kinda forget on how good games used to be. Not like Duke Nukem Forever. I was so happy when I heard of it coming out after being a fan of 3D, then realizing how much of a shit-game it was. Quake and DOOM are still the best games ever made for PC and as far as FPS's go.

I would agree that while Quake changed videogames technologically, and Half-Life changed how a game could be all-around, in story, characters, depth, etc. Also, remember that Team Fortress was originally Quake mod, then a Half-Life mod, and now a full-fledged game using the Source engine.

Quake II has nothing to do with Quake 1, apart from them both being FPS games. In fact, Q2 was not meant to be a sequel at all but existed at first on a completely different name.

No, this is not the real intro. The "real" intro is a playback of a demo file in one of the pak files that store the game data showing off one of the levels of the first episode.
