Do you know how I found out Bish, a white girl, had been found dead? It was in a TABLOID. I never saw it in the regular newspapers or on the news. Then there are the cases of missing white BOYS, like Shawn Hornbeck. His kidnapping got almost no media attention when he was kidnapped back in 2002. If he'd gotten the same amount of media attention that Elizabeth Smart got, he would not have been held hostage for 4 years. He would have been found in 2002! So it's not all about race.
If race is the biggest factor then how come everyone knows Erica Pratt's name? She got a lot of media attention when she escaped from her kidnappers. I agree that not enough attention is given to non-white missing persons but if you look around you'll see that missing elderly white people, missing white boys, missing white white men, & missing white poor people don't get a lot of news coverage either. I am very glad that this young women (now) was found...but I guess the question that bugs me is..What makes Elizabeth Smart so special.Many young children are kidnapped from their beds in the middle of the night..the whole 9 months she was missing it was all you heard about,others you might hear their names 1 or 2 times then thats it.
