  • Albert Lee?!?!

    SO BADASS!

  • Who's the guy on accoustic next to Scruggs?

  • if you hear banjo music row faster

  • anyone else think the guy at 1:13 looks a bit like a young Brain Wilson?

  • I didn't know Steve Martin played the banjo, holy shit this is great

  • Jerry Douglas is freakin awesome on that dobro!I'll play like him one day.lol

  • fantastic music,love from ROMANIA!

  • why do i keep playing air guitar lol

  • @utt3439

So no one ever hears a bad note! lol

  • Paul is great-who do you think invites all the wonderful musicians to play on this show?

  • so that means Steve Martin really played the guitar in "All of Me"

  • Who's the guitar player with the long gray/white hair? I've seen him on alot of things and not sure I remember his name.

  • @LoneKook

    That's Albert Lee. Mr.Telecaster.

  • @Rabadamtimtimti Oh that's right jeeze, what a dummy I am. Can't believe I couldn't remember hsi name lol. Thanks. I*'ll go back to sleep now...

  • God Bless America !! God Bless Ron Paul..

  • I thought big city libs like Letterman didn't like hillbillies and their music. Bluegrass is only cool when they're making money off of it.

  • @mocus1 Go piss up a rope, douchebag. Why bring politics into this. Just enjoy the music.

  • Love this video and most versions of FMB, but if you want to hear the definitive Foggy Mountain Breakdown, listen to Douglas Dillard's masterful version. With all due respect to Earl Scruggs, Doug Dillard is the very epitome of a banjo picker.

  • @MrHeelfan1 ...I agree, Banjo in the Holler is one of the greatest bluegrass songs ever.

  • Can someone edit out all but the 2 banjoes and the one fiddle? :)

  • @jack002tuber Exactly.

  • At :50 someone's WAY out of time. Probably the drummer. Drummers fuck everything up.

  • @wrenwright Sounds like Steve Martin got carried away and pushed the tempo when he started his bit. Rest of them were catching up.

  • This wasn't Simply The Best! I could barely hear Tina Turner! I think the audio mixer needs a hearing aid...

  • thats some good ole fashion finger pickin apparently some ppl thought this was going to be a rap video...so sad

  • Is it just me or does Marty Stuart have some of the greatest hair you've ever seen?

  • i just wanna hear the banjo...

  • I just purely love listening to this song and watching this performance. With nary a hint of pomposity or piousness from any of the performers, as we know them all to be decent folk. I do enjoy.

  • Somebody's out of tempo, anyway......

  • Too bad the drums are out of tempo w/the rest of the instruments. :(

  • @BeeCeereeus

In a band situation, The drums ALWAYS lay the base tempo for the other instruments to follow.. so the accually the others are out of tempo

  • I'd enjoy this so much more if they used a double bass

  • The 126 dislikes are smoking crack...

  • @OnsiteRepair No pleasing some, I guess.

  • Let me tell you something about each and every musician involved in this jr. They have all been involved in music since you were shitting yellow and before. They all have best selling albums before you were born. They have all been to the country music awards. And they have all proven themselves. What is it exactly that you have done.

  • I think the only member of bluegrass royalty that isnt there is Bela Fleck

  • i cant help think about the movie Bonnie and Clyde,

by the way this was awesome thank you for uploading friend

  • Is that Stan Wagganer on fiddle?

  • Steve Martin and Albert Lee RULES !!!!!

  • These guys are all super talented pickers. Vince Gill is an amazing player, singer and song writer and a heck of a nice guy to boot.

  • американское гавно

  • wow what a band the scruggs bros, albert lee vince gill marty stuart and the icon early scruggs at about 78 yrs old...oh and steve martin has been playing bbanjo since before he made the jerk in the 70's

  • I wasn't aware that Steve Martin was a competent banjo player. I'll be damned.

  • and paul schaeffer is a very talented musician dont ever downplay his talent

  • fuckin awesome speaks to the hillbilly in me god damnit

  • I happened to catch this the night they were all on. Love to see "all star" bands perform! Great job.

  • That was an outstanding all-star performance! @moproducer: Semi-talented glitterheads? Really? I suppose you might enlighten all of us as to how your skills exceed theirs and how much more fame and money you're enjoying in the entertainment industry than these guys? My guess is you're little more than a wanabee armchair critic.

  • That's the Best!!!!

  • Are you really a necrophiliac?

  • I'm just surprised Letterman put good music like this on his show

  • Good to see Marty. It's been a while..

  • Wow. What a lineup! That Albert Lee break was fuckin' balls to the wall!

  • @ndguy13243546 Albert Lee is the guy to thank for all that great style of picking we have today! =) There were others before that of course, but Albert really made it stand out.

  • And yes...Vince is tha man! Great pickin!

  • Vince is using a delay pedal to get "double" of the amount of notes out - (the Hellecasters use this same technique, as does Nuno Bettencourt on "Flight of the Wounded Bumblebee")

  • Homer: They didn't start chasing us until you turned on that getaway music!

  • Little known fact is that the dude on piano wears the Rowlf costume on the muppets.

  • Have never gotten over how Vince Gill can barely move his fingers and play all of those notes. He's a true guitar legend that's never been recognized for what he can do.

  • @Ycoadta He's using a slapback delay/echo effect. Same principle as Big Sur Moon by Buckethead or The Echo Song by Paul Gilbert.

  • lest we not forget Jerry Douglas

  • Paul does a great job on the piano .This is a fantastic rousing bit of music.

  • Rip Earl

  • @rab3286

Not yet buddy - Earl's still going strong and long may he do so.

  • Lettermans an idiot

  • how i wished my late father have lived long enough to see this. thanks for posting

  • This is beyond epic

  • poor old bassplayer...

  • @jimincairns No, he's not married to Connie Francis! Marty Stuart is married to Connie Smith, who is 17 years his senior.

  • @moproducer Yep. Someone pointed that out to me already. I blamed my mate who fed me dud info...heheheh!

  • Kojak playing the piano :D

  • That was awesome. :)

  • охрененно!я и не знал, что Стив Мартин играет на банджо!

  • Not Alvin Lee - Albert Lee. And Vince Gill - talentless? I think not.

  • yokel plays so pathetic... oh well yeeeee haaawwwww!!!

  • What the fuck was that bullshit delay on the telecaster guy doing? Talentless in a room full of legends.

  • What a this man so piano song???

  • YEEHAWW!!! Let's go runnin' in the holler.

  • is that alvin lee?

  • I just bought a banjo too. Oh if only I could play this well someday too. Earl Skruggs is amazing. I love the piano solo by Paul. A great time was had by all!

  • this is a great song to reload ammunition to! haha

  • Vince Gill shreds.

  • Blows me away! What an epic load of talented people doing one song...incredible

  • Vince Gill. Holy shit.

  • This song always puts me in a good mood!! Can't help but think of the movie Bonnie & Clyde since that was the theme throughout. Happy Friday everyone!

  • Fantastic!

  • 123 people are tone deaf.

  • From my Massachusetts Middle-Age Baby-Boomer Punk Rocker point of view, THIS group TURNS. IT.OUT.

  • epic piano man

  • it was great until letterman came out

  • @Adam16580 No that asshole Paul had to go and ruin it. That piano did nothing for that song at all. And then he has to act like a frenzied fucking baboon while playing just to try to steal the thunder.

  • @ONENIGGER2ANOTHER if your name implies that your black i ask you what the hell would a black man know about bluegrass music? the piano sounded great

  • @Camaro7477 His name implies that he's being ignorant, he's probably not black, but your comment implies that you too are ignorant if you don't think there are any black people that know about bluegrass music. I'm a black female (would you like pics?), and I do enjoy bluegrass music, hence the reason I'm watching this video. I also play piano, guitar and drums, so I thoroughly enjoyed watching and listening to top notch musicians, regardless of the genre and style of music they play.

  • @fpic What's your issue Little Queenie? Go float those ugly ass pictures at the pet trading post where you would fit right in.

  • @ONENIGGER2ANOTHER haha, if that was supposed to hurt my feelings it didn't. have a blessed day :-)

  • @fpic Don't play that Bullshit Christian Girl card baby I grew up around that phony shit. First you insult me calling me ignorant and now its "Have A Blessed Day?"

Guess you didn't understand that part about not being a "Hypocrite" huh? Maybe you should actually go to church instead of posing.

  • @ONENIGGER2ANOTHER you showed your ignorance with your screen name. you can reply as many times as you'd like and say whatever you want, i'm done commenting, and again i say, have a blessed day.

  • @Camaro7477 What century do you live in..... no, make that what rock did you crawl out from underneath?

  • @Camaro7477 How inbred are you brother? That's about a fucking assinine assumption as saying White musicians can't play Blues. And the piano sounded like tin plated horseshit.

  • @ONENIGGER2ANOTHER haaahahahaaaaa hahaha your right he does it all the time..I always wondred why people thought he was so great

  • @BerkLeeDrm Schaefer's biggest claim to fame was being in the right place at the right time. He was a complete unknown until Lorne Micheals hired him for SNL and that gave him access to a lot of top artists. As a keyboard player he is average and any real musicians will tell you that.

  • @Adam16580 HaHa, good comment :)

  • @Adam16580 Had to happen sooner or later. Just do what I do and stop the video early.

  • Unbelieveable! What an all-star band!

  • I'm surprised letterman didn't get a solo :D haha

  • Vince gill? Awesome complilation of talent..

  • Fucking awesome

  • @beeman448 its called playing "ahead of the beat" if a drummer wants to really push the feel of the song they will play slightly ahead of the other musicians. this guy is really pushing it! the opposite is during funk tunes where you want to make the tempo feel slower than it is. Coltrane album Blue Train has many examples of this.

  • Who played the Dobro? Excellent pickin in my opinion.

  • @Rudog67 Jerry Douglas

  • Was it just me,but it would be better without the out of sync drummer and the electric guitar?

  • acoustic guitar : Steve martin??????????? It looks like a banjo ......and sounds like a banjo..lol

  • @calster31 If you see the colon after Steve Martin, it says he plays banjo...

  • @calster31 No, it says he plays banjo.

  • hi all, i have no idea if anyone has said it, BUT

when i saw this video the only thing that i could think of was the movie Bonnie and Clyde!

    take care all.

  • Wow, Scruggs looks good for his age!

Oh yeah: And the music is awesome!

  • GOOD GOOD

  • It just doesn't get cooler than this

  • great music

  • @MonkeyHunch I thought you were just mocking all the buck toothed, overall's, straw hat hillbilly's that this genre on music derives from. lol

  • @MrScottJJohnson lol nice ;)

  • Great stuff, but shame on Vince Gill for using that damn slapback delay.

  • 0:01-4:03

    Yes. Fucking YES.

  • Supreme hair on the mando player

  • it just amazes me that someone can pick like that, love it

  • Some of finest pickers and players around. Jammy gits. Going around being that good - jealous? Me? Yep.

  • MWAH!!! ♥

  • This is the sort of music I'd be playin over the CB if I ever owned a truck.

  • Jerry Douglas on the Dobro - he gets everywhere!

  • hey chuckmock im listen to this song all the time and im 13.

  • Restores my faith in humanity.

  • Thumbs up if Australian road trains brought you here

  • My favorite part is the big smile on Earl.

  • @FANJG24

no love for the bass player

  • @shwabity The bass line is meant to be simple. Don't hate. The focus of this piece was banjo and violin.

  • Fantastic performance. And 1:58-2:23: You gotta love Fender Stratocaster and the guys who know how to play them :D

  • @EasyCure75 It's not a strat, but I agree with you!

  • @hinbieger its a tele?

  • @EasyCure75 It's a MusicMan. I think it's Albert's signature model.

  • @hinbieger but a fender then...:D

  • @EasyCure75 Looks like a Fender Jaguar to me.

  • @PerfectParasite Nope, it's a Music Man Albert Lee, his signature guitar Music Man made for him

  • @Delta1382 well, they have very similar body styles

  • what a picker!

  • You're right! It IS the best!

  • Who plays the fiddle?

  • Glad Steve Martin found something his good at. I never thought he was that funny.

  • @JohnnysCoolStuff Are you kidding? I still suffer from the hernia he gave me the last ten minutes of "The Jerk". My date got up and left me by myself in the theater I was laughing so hard. She was embarrassed. Too funny. Perhaps we are just different generations.

  • @JohnnysCoolStuff I agree.

  • Vince is a sick guitar player..but i wasn't sure at first, but i think his first solo has a delay or something..it sounded like he was pickin that shit out..which would be fast as hell. still kudos to all of them! steve's probably a better banjo player than alot of well known players these days. and scruggs is king!

  • I've probably watched this 20 times over the last two years. What an amazing assembly of talent. No weak spots. Steve does a great job holding his own with the rest.

I just love this, and I don't really care for bluegrass/country music. Such talent and mutual respect.

  • Earl Scruggs is still going strong at 87 years young. Listen to this every morning to start the day off right! Thank you for posting this!

  • THAT WAS GREAT!!!!!I thought that was vince gill in there ...he's a hell of a guitar player!!!

  • @beatlestonefulI agree it's Vince Gill.

  • i've watched it for 30 times and i'm not tired...that's fantastic...that's feckin music...

  • I can't watch this enough times.

  • @pagancatgal: YES! That is indeed Vince Gill!

  • Awesome and then some!

  • Was that Vince Gill on guitar?

  • WOW!!!!!!

  • Albert Bell won a grammy for his guitar solo when this was recorded. He is an all-star in a line-up of all-stars.
