Fantastic, I'm overjoyed to find we have a cymbal maker right here in the UK. These sound absolutely excellent. Congratulations Matt! More power to you sir!
@PacisVictus I do all sorts of finishes on my cymbals. It depends on whether it is for a customer or for general stock and also on what sound I am seeking. But, a lot of the time, the hammering remains very visible.
Hey Matt, do you think it would be possible to create a ride with barely any wash? kind of like a zilbel, but more like a ride sound. i havent been able to find one like that and i thought maybe you could give me some tips
@xXguitardude9Xx The typical "ride with no wash" is a flat ride - i.e. one without a bell, but this produces a sound that is all stick. It sounds like you are looking for all ping, right? Look for a heavy cymbal, probably with a big bell, maybe even with the word "mega" in its name...
@MattNolanCustom Thanks for the help Matt. Ill get right back to searching. If I cant find one, I might try my hand at making one of my own, see how that works out (after researching, of course).
@Ragnarock83 This cymbal is for sale in the USA at Matt Bettis' Rare Vintage Cymbals website. His scales and mine don't quite see eye to eye, but he has it there as 3583g
The Bronze 16" and 20" crashes sound a hell of a lot like my Meinl Mb20 heavy crashes in those sizes. I thought these ones would have a lower fundamental tone though because they're a bit thinner?
@Mp5Drummer Thanks for your comments. Lots of different factors effect the fundamental pitch of a cymbal - including size, weight, curvature, tension, size and shape of bell, alloy, etc. Also, youtube sound quality isn't too wonderful. There could be lows there in the cymbals that aren't being reproduced.
Didges Christ needs a couple of those batwings for our stage show!! Could make a big playable demon!! :o)
