  • comb jellies aren't members of the phylum cnidaria, they are ctenophore

  • @WarriorOfWriters what??

  • @LeYpigzly they aren't jellies, they're more closely related to sponges

  • isnt that a vampire squid?

  • Reminds me of James Camerons "Abyss".

  • Looks like a Ballsack

  • its like under the sea fireworks

    that"s really cool

  • The jelly fish isnt producing the light its just reflecting it .

someone is projecting light on it .

although its still beatifull to watch .

  • @aviramdj - No, actually it is the jellyfish that's producing the light. It's bioluminescent. Comb jellyfish are like that in the deep sea ... no lights required.

  • @sodiumpowered

no. unlike you i checked before i commented and read articles

it has this muscle wich hold bubbles that catch light that run rhrough his body

and when projected with light on them they change colour

    or ....

maby his just a dj fish and the lights are party for all the fishes

  • @sodiumpowered

    from wilipedia

The comb rows of most planktonic ctenophores produce a rainbow effect, which is not caused by bioluminescence but by the scattering of light as the combs move.

  • The comb rows of most planktonic ctenophores produce a rainbow effect, which is not caused by bioluminescence but by the scattering of light as the combs move.

  • @aviramdj I see, you are right. However, comb jellies are bioluminescent; that is clear from a Google search of various documents, including various Wikipedia articles about bioluminescent creatures. I did not realize the source of the rainbow effect is optical, however. It seemed like you were saying that the rainbow effect was caused by someone projecting colored lights on the jellyfish, and having seen them alive I knew that was not the case. The rainbow colors exist even in the wild.

  • its funny that this is on the earth its so alien

  • Nappa: "Vegeta! Look! A rare Pokemon!"

  • @MissLoveTantei91

Do you want to be a bioluminescent being?

  • @xor12 If this has to do with my comment on the other video...then not really. I just think it would be cool if humans could glow (NOT because of JC Avatar).

  • @MissLoveTantei91

Humans as many other animals, have some sort of dim glow ( only visible under a certain ligth wave, but it´s invisible for us on these light conditions). However, some animals can see the other animals dim glow...

I wouldn´t say, though, that this is bioluminescence in the sense that we know it...

  • Here's a christmas under the sea for you

  • Still less than 5% of the ocean has been explored.. who knows whats down there.

  • is there any aquariums were they show these

  • does anyone else think they look like raving ballsacks?

  • @AOHxAliens you must have seen some freaky ones.... O.O

  • Doesn't it make you wonder... Why do we spend so much time looking for life on other planets when we have yet to explore the large amount "alien" creatures living right underneath our feet.

  • HOLY FUCK A RAINBOW JELLYFISH. Earth is amazing.

  • If its christmas , and you want t save a few bucks , feel free t get one of this Comb Jelly in the sea , LOL .

  • i wanna die and come back a comb jellyfish

  • @aimeela *comb back

  • @aimeela tehe

  • SHINYY!!!

  • this video is off of a tv show that came on a few years ago..... do you know what it was called? cuz i've been looking for it for awhile and i cant find it and i know for sure its not planet earth but i know its from discovery channel..... please help me!!!!

  • WHAT DOES THIS MEAN ?!?

  • @mxcnprd10 It's starting to look like a triple jellyfish!

  • how great s u god

  • omg kell ilyen otthonra :D

  • i love the music they make. hah

  • hey look proof metroids exist

  • This is just beautiful man, I mean how does it produce light, without a brain!!!! Ummmm....... God!!! Lol. Only one that seems to make sence.

  • @Obnavo Why do you need a brain to produce light, and how do you qualify a brain?

Do you know that you have "2 brains" in your own body? Look up Neurogastroenterology.

  • i can see myself reaching for it then get my hand stung so adly it falls off

  • how are they so flashy? do their bodies make electricity???

  • It's called bioluminesscence. It's basically like a chemical ATP reaction, like in fireflies.

  • @dragonparty2 its a medusa

  • one word... ouch

  • @lombizzle13 comb jellies are harmless.

  • @lombizzle13 comb jellies are harmless

  • awesome!

  • That looks like my lava lamp from my room!

  • i'd tap that ass

  • really thats real

  • should call this thing the faggotfish, all the colors of the rainbow! hahah

  • Awesome show in deep water.

  • i have 1 theory to why they create that light: due to the flaps they have (if you notice in the video) light can go through them and bend just like a rainbow. since there is nowhere else to put the light, it iluminated inside the thin flap....or they just glow :D

  • so metroids do exist...

  • @bman8444

    and they like to party...

  • I want one in a tank at my bedside!

  • @50CNTRKS agreed

  • You see this when your high...................

  • @skyeon14 damn i didnt know over a hundred thousand people can be high at the same time..

  • I have this fish on my happy aquarium :D

  • whoa it looks like an alien! This is intreging cuz now i wanna learn about it! :D

  • OMG IM FRYING BALLS DUDE

  • We have explored less than 1% of our ocean floor. Every time we go down there, we discover new specials and animals we have never seen before.

Check out Blue Planet : Deep Sea documentary, very interested. We once though many planets could not have life because of the extreme atmosphere. But on the bottom of the ocean, there are vents from the center of the earth, and around them high temps of over 700 degrees, and life flourishes around it. Shows life can always find a way.

  • beautiful!!

  • IT'S MICHAEL JACKSON'S HEART!!

  • They have a tank of these at our Aquarium. I stared at them for at least a half hour.

  • are they dangeres or somthing?

the only thing i now is that the seawasp is the dangerest jellyfish on the planet.

    (srry for my bad english)

  • lolz pretty colors!

  • I know right? This world is filled with so many interesting creatures! :D

  • so they really do give off colorful lights... interesting!!!

  • Wow! bio-luminescence is so amazing! Mostly based on the different zooplankton the organisms feeds on, and the bacteria that produces light!

  • actually most ctenophores don't bioluminesce - it is more likely light refraction off the ctenes.

  • Oh really? Thank you!

  • great soundtrack, great entity

  • LOL Aliens come to invade the Earth

And as soon as they see this they stop attacking and call us brothers LOLOLOLOLOL

  • You know what is amazing about them? When they produce light they use 90% to create light and 10% heat. WE human beings create 10% light and 90% heat! FAIL.

  • i met this jellyfish at a rave once. he was out of his tentacles on e

  • awesome!!! :D

  • pown

  • it is real LEDusa :)

  • Seisure fish! SEISURE FISH!!!

  • omg, comb jellyfish. <3 beautiful. :D

  • in a really wierd way i actually could think that it was the aliens invading us as jellyfishes! :D

  • ...

  • Comb jellyfish...

    ARE FUCKING AWESOME!

  • @GoldenGangsta666 thats a real medusa

  • Awe inspiring

  • Metroid!

  • Haha! Just imagine that.

  • Ufo's often go underwater and thats how these creatures come about.

  • im not so sure about that

  • Ah...I stand corrected. Some of the species live in the deep sea, others live near the surface. I read that the "light show" is a combination of bioluminscence and light being diffracted off the cilia. However they do it...it is one of the most beautiful things in the world!

  • Oops...I meant "off" these creatures.

  • look in wikipedia, i''m not sure about this one now.

  • There is no light to be reflected of this creature. They live in the deep sea, where light does not exist. The light that they give off is a chemical reaction, similar to glow sticks. Two chemicals combine, thus the glow. From what I've read scientist believe it's a warning sign to predators.

  • the light is reflected diffracted light off the creature's hairs, it is not made by the creature.

  • Casey5693, with no disprespect to your grandfather, the reality is he is in the ground decomposing (assuming he was buried and not cremated). Saying that he is up in Heaven is just something people say to put themselves at peace, it is merely a coping mechanism. He isn't LITERALLY floating somewhere for eternity watching your every move. Death is simply the moment where all 5 senses seize to persist any longer. Death is a cold fact, it shouldn't be speculative.

  • and another point just because you were raised in a religious enviroment dont be too quick to believe every scientific fact that you are told. science like everything can be manipulated to serve those who it benefits, we must be allowed to question the science without being labelled religious fanatics

  • I agree totally, but there are more than 5 senses, just thought id add that

  • Wow you seem to be an expert on death. Have you died before?? Are you dead?? Maybe you shouldn't spout your opinions as facts until you can prove it. Don't try to push your beliefs and your judgements on others, you Nazi lol

  • My opinion isn't the one that needs proving you imbecile. You have it backwards, YOUR absurd opinions of heaven and ghosts, THOSE are the opinions that would need to be proven. It is a FACT that when you die, you are dead. Its already been proven.

  • All I wanted was for you to recognize that your thoughts on death are your opinions and not facts. Dont try to make assumptions about my beliefs, because i never made my beliefs clear, and i dont have to because they are mine. People like you ruin freedom of speech, sometimes its better to shut the f up. "When you die, you are dead", no shit. Define death biach. You can't because you havn't died, unfortunatey. lol

  • how do you know if there isnt an afterlife?? you god or something?

  • I was raised Catholic, my father even taught CCD classes for 2 years. I was still able to think for myself and realize that there is no reason to believe in God. Its annoying how easy it is to convince people to believe in such a thing. There is no evidence, and we are all born Atheist, yet people still find it tolerable to live their lives worshipping a magical man/spirit in the clouds. Silly and absurd.

  • Funkmystar, are you one of those religious losers? You think that because the jellyfish is "beautiful", there has to be some majestic explanation for it? lmao

  • fuck you troy, dont presume to know my beliefs, i am a practising atheist but my point was that natural selection cannot fully explain such genetic diversity as yet, our scientific understanding is constantly changing with each new discovery so once again fuck you !

  • i dont believe we understand evolution as yet , natural selection cannot explain such wonder as that jelly. and go away anyone who says yes it does its just attracting a mate or warning a rival . bullshit !

  • lol imagine, we spend thousands of dollars to create a carnival with colors less beautiful than what is seen here, and this fish just produces even more beautiful colors naturally. amazing

  • Whenever I look at one of these beautiful bio luminescent deep-sea jellyfish... I just forget I'm looking at an animal...

Words cannot explain how much these creatures truly astound me with their beautiful visual photo-displays...

  • perhaps deleted by error...this new layout is tricky
