you can just speed up the song by (x) percent, put it in your ipod, and then lipsync to the faster version of the song, and then slow down your video by (x) percent and there you have it.
oh shit i gotta save this. i'm still probably a year or two away from actually filming anything for my music, or much less even having an apple computer to work on. but this is the kind of thing that i have in mind for one of my songs. i've always wondered how this technique worked. thanks a bunch.
you can pull the same kinda technique with Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas, both have auto conform features, so you can drag'n'drop any kind of frame rate and it fits in together. I'm not too familiar with Premiere and Final Cut but I have made this similar sort of thing in Vegas 8 using the HD100 using MPEG mode.
Not really. The problem with long-GOP formats is that Cinema Tools can't conform them to a different frame rate until they have been transcoded to an all I-frame codec (the ProRes codecs are ideal for this.) Alternatively you can put a native 60P clip in a 24P sequence and then change the speed to 40%. However this method won't work if you plan to use multicam.
How do we do this in final cut X??????????

Wow that seems to be a real pain in the ass. alot of converting whereas in Sony Vegas or Premiere the clips drop straight in.
I hope Final Cut Pro X has fixed that.

@jchang911 Not if you want maximum slowness without frame loss or jitter. The math and method here is sound.

For those of you asking about Vegas pro. Look if you want to do pro video you gotta do this shit on a Mac.

Amazing! So easy and simple to do. Using an ipod or iphone to display the timecode is going to be my definitive setup for shooting videos.
