@BlessMyBurrito The ramrod is what you load the rifle with when firing for real -- long piece of thin metal. During reenactments we don't use the ramrod since it could be fired by accident if we left it in the rifle rather than putting it back into its slot after ramming the powder down. Since we don't use bullets during the reenactment, just gunpowder, it isn't necessary for us to use the ramrod. During this battle one of our guys was pulling his ramrod to load the weapon, but we stopped it.

It was his first event and when he had been taught how to load his rifle his friend taught him the nine step process, and he started doing it again on the field. When drilling that day he didn't do it, so we thought he understood this. Thankfully it only happened once and, as you can see in the video, several our officers jumped all over it. It hasn't happened since.
Thanks for the info! I findd re-enactments fascinating! I wish I could go to one, but they are hard to find out here in Southern Cali.

i think we could lose more than one man next time me and my 1st Sargent think it was unfair that u guys lost almost all ur men and we lost one guy
