Don't you be dissin Master Higgins's mad Dancing skills He can be a Pretty little Ballerina/Sugar Plum fairy princess... Thing? On second thought Never mind.
A few days ago, I bought this off PSN. I was able to beat it, but did have a bit of a hard time with the timing initially. Still quite a fun game, and again, being able to play it on the PSP is a massive plus in my book. So as of right now, that makes 3 Turbo titles I bought. Too bad there's only 10 of them available on PSN right now!
your EGM high score reminded me of Gamepro's "Team Game Pro" they did where you filled out a survey and they picked like 50 gamers - i actually made that team and they posted the names in the mag! - probably around 1990 -i would love to see that issue again - anyone remember that?
@SavageBroadcast Ha ha. I did work pretty hard to make my allowance (of which I mostly spent on that). But, of course.....I also had wonderful Christmas and Birthday presents. :)
@ldlrdrllrr i think when he said the "original nintendo version", he was simply referring to the NES (1st nintendo console) version of Wonder Boy, which of course was dubbed 'Adventure Island' : )
Hi SPIDA you have made me buy turbo grafx. Its a european version. It wasnt so popular in europe when it was realesed. This brings to biggest problem i face! Choice of games is not big and i would like to import them. Can i play TURBO games from us on my eu console?
This looks really good, but as a child of Sega it feels like a cheap and saddening knock-off. I still have the original Wonder Boy for my Sega Master System and it's a great game, but would you play an unknown Mario Bros. sequel where Mario was replaced by a talking dog, or an unknown Sonic sequel where Sonic is replaced by a Cave Man who eats peppers instead of rings... Adventure Island is a rip off of Wonder Boy and it feels wrong to support it, but I must play it.... dammit.
I didn't care for the original Adventure Island games on the NES, but I loved Super Adventure Island on the SNES. When I saw this on the TG-16, I had to give it a try and really enjoyed it. Not quite as good as Super, but still a great game. Anyone notice that one of the stages has weird mountains in the background that look exactly like Super Mario World? Strangely enough, SMW2:Yoshi's Island has some stages with waterfalls and lavaflows that look just like those found in New Adventure Island.
I LOVE Adventure Island. It's actually one of my favorite game series of all time. I keep waiting for some sort of remake or new version on the DS or something.
its' too bad the tg-16 didn't have a better go in north america....but i guess it's hard to compete when you go against snes + genesis....you seem to have a good collection of nec systems and games...you should spring for a super grafx...although i think it only came out with a handfull of games...
The system was just released too late and poorly marketed. In Japan, it was released to compete with the NES (Famicom), which it definitely did and nicely held its own. You know? The Genesis (Mega Drive) couldn't make a dent there.
In America....ha, totally other way around as it rode the 16-bit wars. :)
I have every American game as well as the SuperGrafx. Look for my Ghouls 'n Ghosts Import review in the Playlist.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I'm glad to have ya' as a sub! :)
didn't know tg13 had thier own upgraded versions of nes classics...it's giving me a new found respect for the turbografx...if i had games like this, ninja gaiden..neutopia, bonk and others, I would have spent more time playing this than the nes...
Heh, I still have that issue of EGM. That's cool you were on top of the list. It sucks that you didn't get those items though. I wonder if others got shafted like that.
Oh well. I hate to disappoint you all but EGM will be coming back this December. :P (I am personally happy for that.)
Um......I would have to say that.....I like them both.
Super Adventure Island was a little "different" than the ones I played on NES, and I liked that. Where as NAI was similar, just updated a bit. You know?
I'd have a hard time picking, but I also haven't played Super AI in a loooooong time!
Hey Spida, I love a good puzzle game. I looked on youtube and saw a t-16 game that caught my eye: Boxyboy. The concept of having to put boxes in designated spots seems fun to me for some odd reason!! o.0 Anyway, I just wanted to know what your opinion of this game is and what other turbo chip puzzle games are good. Thanks!!
I don't currently own Panic Bomber for the PC-Engine. But, it looks like a great game and I'll put that on my "to buy" list next time I have some extra cash. Then....it'll definitely be on the show.
lol at EGM. Good thing their days of writing biased reviews of games they suck at are over. Ever since I read their Herzog Zwei review, I always knew they were tools.
As for NAI, I would love to get my hands on that purty little game :D
I own every game I review (in fact, I own every US released TG16 game). If you watch some reviews, you'll notice that I do show the game/box/manual, at times.
I also try to incorporate manual scans as well in the reviews. :)
Wow, so you own every single US turbo game release, including the ultra rare Bonk 3. I really admire that. It must have cost you a pretty penny. My turbo collection is modest, but what I've got is good: Blazing Lazers, Galaga 90, Splatterhouse and Neutopia.
So, how did you buy most of your games? Was it ebay? or some other method? I check craigslist often (2-3 times per day) and every tthree months or so they do post some stuff but not much...
I bought about 80 of them when I was a kid growing-up. The majority were in bargain bins for, like, $10 or $15 each. You know?
Ha! I couldn't help myself.
Games like Bonk III I purchased NEW when they were released. So, I avoided the high-prices that it fetches. In 2000 and in 2003 I tried to complete my collection and mostly looked on Ebay for the rest (the most I ever paid was for Magical Chase, but nothing like it goes for today....thank goodness!)
Ah New Adventure Island one of my favorite games of all time i own it on the PC Engine and i find it to be a colorful and fun action platformer and as always great review.
I've played most of the Adventure Island games, the oddest one is Super Adventure Island 2, it plays more like the later Wonder Boy games, instead of the traditional platformer.
Iplayed the 1st AI one on NES. and though I enjoyed I never played the other ones at all. Until recently I bought AI2 for the gameboy. Man I been missin out cuz that game is great. I plan on to pick up the others soon and D/L this one on my wii. BTW GREAT FUCKIN REIVEW!
It really is. I use the SAME EXACT settings I always did. But, the last five or six reviews, the HQ compression is "choppy." I'm experimenting now to try and figure out if I can do anything about it (maybe change my frame-rate to 24 as it goes to Windows Media, but.....NO luck so far).
I sincerely doubt i'll ever get a partnership (not on this account anyway), i've applied over 10 times now and always get a generic "you do not have enough interesting or unique videos" rejection email :(
Have you thought of putting them on Blip, or pushing them to a big gaming website? make some munnies out of your work?
Lol, No idea why I've gotten so popular recently, I got to 1000 and it shot up. But you'll see it getting quicker and quicker the more people see you on others channels.
