Yeah I couldn't help but feel cheated at the end. She took everything and turned it around and for what reason? Still though it was heart breaking to hear that Dan died.
Winning the lottery wouldn't have been so bad if it they had saved that for the final episode. The problem was how wacky and contrived things got once they got rich. There was too much fantasy stuff during the last season.
Ok I liked Martin Mull before, but this interview makes him so much cooler in my eyes. He's right, that show could've went on for years and years...although, they'd have to explain Mark's disappearance, if things with him still ended that way...but yeah, he's right. It was a show about family life, and struggles that we've all had at some point, with a bunch of one-liner jokes (which were the best kind). The show had and still has a lot of promise.
esh, i dont think the lottery ruined it, it was completely real in what people do when their lives are going downhill, they dream about having it all, iknow i do, i'm working a min wage job, i know how roseanne and dan feel just scraping by, i could watch the ep where they orig win the lotto 10,000 times and still love it, jackies reaction, roseanna running out in her bra, jumping on dans back, then telling dj to get her shirt, lol it was great. roseannes take on high society was awesome
its a testatement to mull's talent that i really thought he was gay in real life after having seen him on roseanne. an actor in the true sense of the word.
Every fan of Mark aka Glenn Quinn here should search a song called "Seven Years Without You by David Scott" It was written in Loving Memory of Glenn Quinn. Hope all is well for you Glenn Quinn fans. God Bless!!! Ireland Forever!!!
Roseanne should have ended at least a year before the actual ending. That just proves that if you are famous, you keep crap on the air. The directors don't run Hollywood; the stars do.
I worked at Southwest Leasing (Anaheim, CA) in 1978. One time I saw a customer in our lounge waiting for a loaner car. I said to our receptionist "That guy's lucky-he looks just like Martin Mull!"
She told me - "That IS Martin Mull!".
From then I helped service his cars, eventually delivering one to his Malibu beachfront home where he was creating wonderful paintings, as he does today. What a fine and down-to-earth person. Total "class" in an industry where that is hard to find..
@CarrollAP I agree totally. The Connors, as a working, blue-collar family, worked so well. We could relate to them and the things they went though. THAT was what made the show so endearing. Once they won the lottery, it jumped the shark. It turned into a typical sitcom. A sad demise for what was once a great show.
The show SUCKED in the final season and then Roseanne ripped us off so bad when she gave that weird twist on the final episode! It was a big FUCK YOU to us - her loyal audience.
they should reopen the show and call it roseanne 2 or something. lol except give it a better name. you get the point though.
and well yeah. it would be great except mark beckys boyfriend. the guy who played him died in real life. so they would have to replace him with someone else. which would suck. since i really liked glenn quinn.
but i agree. the show should have went on for a whole lot longer! so much longer!
Martin's from my home town. I wrote Roseanne once and she responded. I COULD NOT STAND THE ENDING. Told her it traumatized me. She should have ended it with her becoming a comedienne, as in real life.
I saw Martin at a painting show at Mills college (Girls). His work is extraordinary. Photorealism mixng aesthetics of childrens book images from the fifties with his surreal placement. He did a slide show and spoke. He showed a very early painting of chairs flying through a forest, with some kind of football connection. Fabulous. Like Steve Martin, you dig and find out the other talents...like Steve's magic and banjo work. Tom Waits opened for Martin and Zappa. What could be more perfect?
I wonder if you knew, since you mentioned Steve Martin, that he and Martin Mull had a musical/comedy duet years ago, like in the early 70s, called Steve Martin Mull. Mull started his career as a musician, he's a fine guitarist too.
i love martin mull ....

There has been talk of a reunion show; but I think it would be strange without Dan . He was a huge part of the equation.

His character was great until he decided to come out being gay on Roseanne.

Matin Mull is mentioned in a great new bio (Charlton Heston: An Incredible Life: Revised Edition). The bio is at amazon for sale!
About Mull's view on gays --google the name "Frank Worthen"!

Where does it say that Mull has any connection to that?

About the woman who played Darlene Connor. Combine "exodus" and "international" and ".com".
