  • i could never get enough of luxy loved it fantastic

  • How radio should be. Remember Battle of the Giants? :)

  • @MrBridge09 Oh My God yes!! I remember Queen Vs Dire Straits one time,Queen won! :-)) Wow this has brought back some incredible memories!

  • I used to listen to Radio Luxembourg in Poland from about 1975 until 1987. It was great fun, great DJs and most importantly great music. It was truly the best radio station EVER! I still miss them very much.

When I moved to Canada I couldn't believe how awful the radio in North America was.

  • @JB3091963 You must be joking.

  • YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYY, Happy memories when there was still great radio. :)

  • Thank you so much for posting this ! I took a trip down Memory Lane. Those where the days... :o)

  • Before 1976, the masts for 1440kHz mediumwave were quarterwave omnidirectional and meant R.Luxembourg could be heard quite widely over Europe and in winter you could hear the German Service early to mid afternoons getting better as night draws in. In 1976 RTL retrofitted the two 1440kHz mediumwave masts with passive reflectors;one to direct the signal to the United Kingdom and Northern Europe and two to direct the daytime signal to Germany;when they did that reception worsened.

  • the station thbat made me become a dj am 52 now but went to bed every night listen to the big 208 lux a was ten then and have sinced dj all over the wlorld thanks luxembourgh the power play the bBIG L DJ KENNY STEWART TAKES HIS HAT OFF TO YOU CATCH YOU ON THE FLIP SOUND

  • 1.3 million watts!!!must have been the most powerful AM station in the world, not even anything in the states can match that power!

  • And, RLUX is already available through the Internet in the UK.

  • If RLUX (as it's new English call-sign will be) gets a license, it could well start up on 180W in England at several locations. Analogue radio is going nowhere for now, analogue television is a waste, let's go.

  • Best Radio Station ever....bring it back...

  • Hello girls and guys!

Where is the famous Jimmy Saville?

  • I was in Ireland during August of 1972 and I used to hear this when I stayed up at my aunt Kitty and Uncle Doney's house. This was a great radio station to listen to when you were staying up late in the Emerald Isle, and, indeed all over Europe!

  • i used to listen to Stu and Oli Henry ;)

  • the best radiostation in sweden at the 70`s

  • The best radiostation in sweden at the 70`´s

  • To radio to wspaniała historia i chyba jedyne takie radio znane w ówczesnych czasach w całej Europie. Nigdy nie zapomnę "trzeszczących" często audycji w latach '80 na 1400Mhz (o iile pamiętam) i tych jingli.

  • Amikor én még kissrác voltam.........!!!!!! (Budapest, HU)

  • Thanks for posting this!

I took me back thirty years !!

Brings tears to a glass eye

  • @Chimbo65 glad you like the luxy upload, was a great old station.

  • When Radio Luxembourg left MW208m, they preferred to concentrate on Astra 1A satellite transmissions in high quality PANDA1 HiFi Stereo to Europe and via FM delivery in stereo from Astra 1A on some cable networks and at selected times via 15350kHz Shortwave usually 15350kHz Shortwave up to midnight and from midnight to 3am every night on 6090kHz Shortwave plus the three local RTL FM transmitters from 12midnight-3amUK(01.00-04.00CET) via 89.0Mhz/93.3Mhz and 97.0Mhz FM Stereo.

  • Without checking the other comments, the first jingle is Luxy circa 1989......

  • A group of us used hang around a friend's car in Ireland in the late 50's waiting for sunset and after that picking up the 208 signal.Great excitement for us all!

  • @ochshane Used to listen in Ireland too! On a little transistor radio! good times!

  • Respond to this video... 'Wishing you God's blessing and peace' he wouldnt be allowed to say that now..!

  • No wonder it bombed, the fade on 208m MW was partly to blame for it. When it came on the Astra 1A satellite in 1989 in stereo on channel 13 RTL-V/RTL-4 it was available much better PANDA1 stereo hifi quality and you could listen all over Europe without the fade and interference.

  • They learned all other how to make excellent and attractive radio programming. Unfortunately those times of enthusiasm and quality are gone. I also listened RL vial transistor under my pillow :)

  • @adriatic111

i did the same with a mediumwave walkman, it didn;t have FM on it so was forced to listen too mediumwave and picked the trongest music music station wich was the big 208.

  • i used listen the top 20 show on tues nights in the 70s.under my pillow at boarding school.

  • I did the same in early 80's

  • Hi Bob! I hope you'll read my comment.

I've been listening RL for more than 25 years almost each night. I first knew about it from my neighbour Georgi Zanev who had recorded each transmission of RL since the early 50's. Later he went to Vienna and he was a music conductor there. Many times i was awaken up by your voice that i'll never forget! Many thanks for it and I wish you will bring many happy hours for us again!

  • hi Bob! i spent many nights listening RL until the close minutes! More than 25 years. But many times i got asleep and i was waken up by your voice that i'll never forget! Thanks fot it!!!

  • A great tribute to the old Radio Luxembourg: Youtube-video "nKvzvu9IEVM"

  • I miss that super great radio station. After it's exit in 1992 has it never been any good radios like that to lisning at. Well, RTL Radio who tried to be a replacement of RL was and still isn't to bad,

  • Baby Bob Stewart, the best sounding american scouser there was. One of the big 3 from Radio Caroline North!!!!
