  • uhm, I'm new to this technology, but seeing as this is uploaded by "vmwareview" I'm assuming that is why there was such a bias? I specifically noticed that they had already created a vm... (in order to make a snapshot). And then made it seem like it was overly complex (because you had to create a vm). But that aside, I am wondering if vmware view offers the type of "read only" access that its citrix counterpart does?

  • Definitely Xendesktop is the best option for a virtual desktop solution.

in the video not talk of to very important is the provisioning.

i not know from view, but this video not show one solution scalable and reliable.

  • Wait what about all those programs that are user dependent?

Ooops vmware fell on its face on that one... which company did they have to buy to try and keep up and still fail ?!!

  • Erm....what it doesnt mention here is that Vmware View can ONLY HAVE UP TO 128 MACHINES TO A LINKED CLONE (yes your virtual desktop templates......).

If you have retards for admins Vmware View is the obvious choice. As previously mentioned - do your homework on the tech.

    ENOUGH SAID....!!!!

  • @pags1981 Well, YOU should do your homeworks... a replica is not your base image. View composer will copy a replica of your base image for each datastore. This is totally transparent for you.

I work with both products, a lot. While Citrix has a superior remote protocol, VMware has a far more integrated and superior management system. This is what whill help your TCO. Citrix will be better on a WAN link with 120ms or slower, otherwise you won't see a difference.

    Fan boys !!!

  • @PGROTHE A superior management system is not going to do me any good when the higher-ups want to place CS5 users on the road or access their VMs from their shiny new iPads that were forced upon us. You see, there's what looks good on paper and then there's what sysadmins actually need. In that regard, XD absolutely clobbers View.

Also I suggest you do your homework, as Citrix outperforms View on ANY WAN link thanks to Branch Repeater, which is free with XD Platinum licensing.

  • Wow! VMware View has to be really bad if you compare such things!!!

The deployment is to be done by System Engineers NOT users. What really counts is the TCO, features, User Experience - and Citrix XenDesktop is superior to View in all those areas!

  • What a complete crock of bs. While the VMware product appears to be easier to deploy, its technology is way inferior to Citrx. Dig deeper and you will see. Why the concern about the initial steps? Is this designed for my grandma?

  • The base image is nothing, Id be willing to spend much much more time to do the base image.

Its replicas that are provisioned off that base image that are easy and need to be to rolled out.

  • The problem here is that the user is who really choose and mantain the technology, are our clientes!!!! So, what you prefere, a happy user or an angry user. In the other hand, the video is comparing apples with dogs. Whoever has the minumun knowledge of both technologies could say the same. In my opinion is clear the coice: I prefere Happy users that use my solution, isnt you?
