Well, its a shame that she quit but she did say that she was having some mental issues with the sport and I think I'd rather have her be a positive, normal 17 year old that is happy to have quit than be a sad negative girl that is doing something that she'd rather not do. But I did hear that there is a chance of her returning to the sport after the Olympics...
Its sad hollie quit. But maybe was it that her inconsistent performance on beam kept letting her down? I mean she could have easily made finals and gotten the gold medal (if not a medal of any kind) in both 2006 and 2007 worlds. (sorry i am a bit biased, as an Aussie, but really, Hollie's beam routine is gorgeous!)
Yes, to stay at the top level in gymnastics consistency is the absolute key: look at Tatiana Groshkova, a truly great Soviet gymnast in the late 1980's early 1990's who did amazing stuff like double full-in piked on floor, and backhandspring full-in on beam, and sideways backhandspring to Yurchenko loop on beam, but she was terribly inconsistent and never made the Soviet team for the Olympics or World championships.Very sad.
I wouldn't say her inconsistency on beam. There were just as many times, if not more, when she hit it and it was fkn gorgeous. I think it was physical and mental burnout asralucagymnast pondered. She had so much bad luck with injury, and the mental aspect of everyone expecting her to make Australian gymnastics a huge name would've been an unbearable pressure and burden at times. It's sad to see her retire, especially this close to the Olympics, but I agree that it's better for her to be happy.
Her Mostepanova (Or Onodi whatever you wanna call it) Front aerial, bhs, layout step out combonation is SOOOO pretty....I always loved watching her. SO stylish!
As long as she's healthy and injury free, then I don't think she'll have a problem making the team. They don't hold the team trials until about a month before the actual Olympics.
Love that leotard

Thats a real shame about her quitting: was she just tired of the training, or was it something physical; an injury or something? Thats so sad:(

I love the flight series of Onodi, front aerial, bhs, back layout. She did it really well. Some very nice skills in that routine.
